mastershake
i was trying to find good love songs (i know, sounds gay) that aren't the standard pop/country stuff - kinda in the vain of something tweedy would write but not a song by jeff (cause i know all his songs). for example - love hurts by gram parsons is really good, and of course the beatles - something which could be the best love song ever written. also chi-lites - oh girl. anyone care to name some others that i might not know about? Analogman
Against All Odds? Phil Collins' ex-wife may no longer be in his heart, but she'll definitely always have a place in his bank account. The easy-rocking star has waved good-bye to marriage No. 3 and hello to a reported $46.68 million divorce settlement which, if accurate, shapes up to be the biggest ever celeb payout in British legal history, trumping even the astronomical amount Heather Mills received

PopTodd
And, perhaps the greates, most beautiful love song ever:Nick Cave - "Breathless"It's up in the morning and on the downsLittle white clouds like gambolling lambsAnd I am breathless over youAnd the red-breasted robin beats his wingsHis throat it trembles when he singsFor he is helpless before youThe happy hooded bluebells bowAnd bend their heads all a-downHeavied by the early morning dewAt the whispering stream, at the bubbling brookThe fishes leap up to take a lookFor they are breathless over youStill your handsAnd still your heartFor still your face comes shining throughAnd all the morning glows anewStill your mindStill your soulFor still, the fire of love is trueAnd I am breathless without you The wind circles among the treesAnd it bangs about the new-made leavesFor it is breathless without youThe fox chases the rabbit roundThe rabbit hides beneath the groundFor he is defenceless without youThe sky of daytime dies awayAnd all earthly things they stop to playFor we are all breathless without youI listen to my juddering bonesThe blood in my veins and the wind in my lungsAnd I am breathless without youStill your handsAnd still your heartFor still your face comes shining throughAnd all the morning glows anewStill your soulStill your mindStill, the fire of love is trueAnd I am breathless without you

Winston Legthigh
and of course the beatles - something which could be the best love song ever written. 'Something' is a great song, yes. Great love song? I don't know. The lyrics imply the singer's attraction to other lovers, and how the object of affection diminishes his need for other lovers. "Something in the way she moves attracts me like no other lover""Something in her smile she knows that I don't need no other lover" Is that something you'd say to the object of your affection? "Oh honey, there's something about you that prevents me from philandering..." Then he goes on to say that he can't assure that his love will grow, but if she sticks around it might show.Pretty tepid love-lyrics, I sez... So instead, I nominate Van Mo's Sweet Thing: And I will stroll the merry wayAnd jump the hedges firstAnd I will drink the clearClean water for to quench my thirstAnd I shall watch the ferry-boatsAnd theyll get highOn a bluer oceanAgainst tomorrows skyAnd I will never grow so old againAnd I will walk and talkIn gardens all wet with rain Oh sweet thing, sweet thingMy, my, my, my, my sweet thingAnd I shall drive my chariotDown your streets and cryhey, its me, Im dynamiteAnd I dont know whyAnd you shall take me stronglyIn your arms againAnd I will not rememberThat I even felt the pain.We shall walk and talkIn gardens all misty and wet with rainAnd I will never, never, neverGrow so old again. Oh sweet thing, sweet thingMy, my, my, my, my sweet thingAnd I will raise my hand upInto the night time skyAnd count the starsThats shining in your eyeJust to dig it all an not to wonderThats just fineAnd Ill be satisfiedNot to read in between the linesAnd I will walk and talkIn gardens all wet with rainAnd I will never, ever, ever, everGrow so old again.Oh sweet thing, sweet thingSugar-baby with your champagne eyesAnd your saint-like smile....
