Analogman
4/8/72, we have the equally, perhaps more impressive jam of Dark Star>Sugar Magnolia>Caution (Do Not Stop On Tracks), I rather liked the above.
calvino
Looking forward to the XM live feeds. I always loved when Grateful Dead (esp. the New Year's) shows were broadcast on the radio.

Moss
I was at a bar in Fort Collins and watching the Red Sox game. The bartender was blasting the 1982 New Years eve show from his IPOD. Sounded really good.
Analogman
I think Ratdog and Gov't Mule already have shows planned for the summer, so I'd say they are not going to do shows after the ones that are currently planned. At least not in July.

Dmada
That's cool that Lemieux busted out 4/6/82 - I was thinking of posting the setlist from that show today. It's one of my favorites from Spring '82. AND, man, how cool would it be to be at one of these shows and get a minute or two to talk with David and pick his brain? Awesome. Since today's the 40th anniversary of 4/6/69 may I suggest busting out the tapes from that show? The "Other One" from that night is a psychedelic steamroller! I did the Hartford shows in 4/82, my first run great shows indeed! My take on the current tour (about to start) is that they sound pretty good musically, but the vocals leave a LOT to be desired
Moss
Three of my favorite things. Call me next time.... Yeah, I definitely thought of you as I was sitting there. I was up shopping for music equipment and just stopped at a random bar for a beer. It was beautiful.

Vocally- eh. People bitch about Phil's voice sometimes but I get a kick out of it. 70 yr. old guy and all.... Weir I can take and Warren has that whiskey-soaked edge to it. No complaints from me on the vocals but we'll see. Yeah, I definitely thought of you as I was sitting there. I was up shopping for music equipment and just stopped at a random bar for a beer. mountain bed
The Last Rehearsal (new video) I noticed Amazon has this for 70 bucks: Winterland 1973: The Complete RecordingsThat's a steal for 70 bucks, Aman. I think I paid around 100 when it came out. It's a fantastic box set. Also, has anyone here got a confirmation that their Terrapin (5/28/77) or Road Trips (2/14/68) have been shipped yet? I'm thinking since the pre-order was over on Tuesday it should be anytime now.

I got the 68 in the mail today, planning to listen to it tomorrow. Got the 77 show a few days ago and listened to it once Wed. night. The 77 show does sound very nice, both production and playing wise. I never heard the 5.28.77 show before, so it was nice to hear it. I have a FLAC copy of the 2.14.68 show (a real great show), so I am looking forward to hear how they cleaned up the sound. It's gonna be nice Easter weekend listening to new Grateful Dead stuff. I guess to answer your question, I did get confirmation that both shows were being shipped. Once I got the confirmation of shipping, they arrived 2 or three days later. That 73 set is indeed great and the price too.

Did that just come out - or was it a while ago? It says April 9th at Amazon. I lose track of all the releases sometimes. I have not bought one since Three From The Vault, and before that it was the Fillmore East: April 1971 release. Something I never thought about - when a show comes out like that, you can no longer listen to the stream at archive.org.

Something I never thought about - when a show comes out like that, you can no longer listen to the stream at archive.org. It came out last summer. Perhaps they were only selling it on dead.net and the Rhino site up until now. It is definitely easy loosing track of their release, especially since they got involved with Rhino. I just looked at my copy of the Winterland set and I don't see Rhino's logo anywhere on the set, while the Terrapin 77 show has a Rhino logo on it. So maybe Rhino is distributing a second run. I don't know, it's a bit confusing to me. I did notice this link http://www.letitbleedbook.com/ on the Rhino page. That would be cool to have. But the price pretty damn steep. HungryHippo
i forgot all about the Hartford 77 show and just rushed out to go and get it about an hour ago. i needed some good saturday night jams. second song into the set and its sounding real nice. so far, Donna's backing vocals aren't bothering me. $70 for the Winterland set makes it so tempting to buy. i can't foresee the price staying that low for more than a week. now i need to convince myself to go ahead and order it... Analogman
From Billboard.com: Dead Tour May Lead To New Music, RecordingsMickey Hart: Spring tour "could be a serious attempt at new Grateful Dead music."April 12, 2009 08:56 AM ETGary Graff, Detroit The spring U.S. tour by The Dead may well be the first step towards turning the band into a recording entity again -- or at least that's what the surviving members of the Grateful Dead hope. "I would think that if we stay on this path that's inevitable," percussionist Mickey Hart tells Billboard.com. "I think this could be a serious attempt at new Grateful Dead music." But Hart and his bandmates agree that "you have to be able to play (old) Grateful Dead music in order to make new Grateful Dead music" first, which is what the group will be doing starting on tonight (April 12) in Greensboro, N.C. "Right now I think we're trying to make the canon our own again and make it a really sumptuous feast as opposed to little hors d'oeuvres and stuff," Hart explains. "You gotta learn the musical ropeadope and be able to have conversations on an intuitive level with the other musicians, things that just take time." But singer-guitarist Bob Weir is confident this version of The Dead -- which also includes founding members Phil Lesh on bass and Bill Kreutzmann on percussion, along with guitarist Warren Haynes and keyboardist Jeff Chimenti -- will have no trouble capturing that spirit. "It's an organic kind of situation," Weir says. "We speak a language that no one else speaks. It comes from all those years on the road; if you piled up the time that we've spent just on stage together, playing, it's be years. Relationships develop. Feelings develop that I don't think can be found any other ways." Some of those feelings -- what Hart says were "musical, personal, business and political differences" -- kept The Dead apart for four years. But those largely disappeared when the group came back together in 2008 to play a couple of benefit shows for the Barack Obama campaign. "When it got right down to it, we really didn't have that many differences," Hart notes. "To lay a few of them aside in the name of good music was no big thing, because it was overwhelmingly apparent that we have to do this. The vibe is good." Weir adds that The Dead plans to "really dig in" to its catalog at the spring shows, as well as during some planned summer festival appearances. He says the group prepared more than 150 songs at two separate rehearsal sessions, and more may be added during the course of the tour. "We're on fire," Kreutzmann reports. "When we rehearsed...the music just got better and better every day. The music started playing us. We didn't have to play the music. That's when I knew it was going to be good." mountain bed
From Billboard.com:We have to take this article with a grain of salt, imo. After all, it's Mickey talking - not a man that is very judicious with his words. Remember before the Further Festival '98 Tour: "We're making music that is better than when Jerry was alive" (I paraphrase). Remember a year or so later when the bad blood first started to get public: "Phil must have received the liver of a jerk" Innaresting that Phil wasn't quoted in the article. It seems kinda obvious (to me, at least) that the thing will revolve around him - he sure seemed to lead the proceedings at the Obama benefit. Bobby speaking didn't convince me too much either. But Billy the K...he usually doesn't fuck around mincing words, so it might be the real deal after all - we'll see.
