Sunken mountain
Unwelcome Guest is the song that first turned me on to Wilco -- Jeff's backing vocals. And the message. Because I AM a democratic socialist -- I like public schools, roads, libraries, mail service, workers' rights and a reasonable safety net. And eating the rich. And pharmacy
mfwahl
Yes, yes I am. Not about this, though! I mean, I've got no idea about a MA box set, but that song was actually recorded with Jeff doing the whole thing. Whether or not that recording still exists is another question, but it was recorded. I promise!I was just channeling Tweedy. I haven't heard that version but it sounds delicious
jakobnicholas
If Obama was actually a socialist like McCain likes to keep saying, that would be appropriate. But as he's not.............. I'll stay out of the Obama is or isn't a Socialist debate. He's definitely said things that one could interpret as having a touch of Socialism, but none of us really know what's gonna shake down in an Obama presidency. As for "Unwelcomed Guest", it might be my favorite Bragg/Wilco song. This song and Another Man's Done Gone both share AMAZING vocals from Tweedy.

viatroy
America is not a democracy, never has been, never will be until the popular vote counts. We're selectively socialist, and doing a piss poor job of it. And pharmacy I've heard about that in England ... crazy! and excellent! Why (some) Americans are so terrified of sharing the wealth so everyone can enjoy a civilized standard of living just blows my mind. I think it's that good old American "I got mine, don't worry about his" gimme gimme bullshit. The Protestant work ethic that says if you work hard you WILL succeed -- and if you haven't succeeded, you're lazy and unworthy. I am hoping for a rearrival of our national mental health, if we ever had it on a national scale in the first place. Apparently the rest of the world feels the same way. MrRain422
Audience member: "Why is it that someone like my father who goes to school for 13 years gets penalized in a huge tax bracket because he's a doctor." McCain: "I think it's to some degree because we feel obviously that wealthy people can afford more." Audience member: "Are we getting closer and closer to, like, socialism?" McCain: "Here's what I really believe: That when you reach a certain level of comfort, there's nothing wrong with paying somewhat more."
Beltmann
If McCain has ever used a library, he supports socialism.

I'd say its pretty clear what his agenda is: tax cut for the middle class (keeps em quiet). Leave 50,000 troops in Iraq, move the rest to Afganhistan, possible war with Iran Contiune to turn a blind eye to israel Begin drilling off shore Nuclear Power

Dude
I plan on heading down to Grant Park, hopefully early enough to avoid what will be a mad rush of traffic and crowds. I just early voted this morning for Barry in the Northwest burbs.
solace
I bet you're really proud of that one. he's been holding that one close to his chest for months now! A friend of mine has had a block of hotel rooms in DC booked for inauguration week for nearly a year now. I'd really like to go anyway, but I've told her if Wilco will be playing, I'm in for sure. LouieB
Sadly the news is no music at the Grant Park event, so no Wilco. But you can share Grant Park with a million people if you so choose... LouieB

LouieB
Contiune to turn a blind eye to israelAmazing isn't it.....I have lost an old and close friend who believes Obama is going to destroy Israel right off that bat. I guess this election is a rorchach test of sorts for all the wackos.... I was wrong about Radiohead. All those not voting for Obama should listen to Ted Nugent instead on election night instead of Wilco, since he IS a big McCain fan. LouieB

I really don't think they will bring in a band after the city is spending all kinds of dough on security, etc. I could be wrong. I fully expect Wilco to play an inagural party however.
