watchtower41
The press release mentions it was shot in HD. Does this imply a Blu-Ray version, as well? One can only hope... though the band is not particularly fond of Blu Ray technology for whatever reason yet. I'm glad a dvd is finally coming, but waiting this long for a live release and thinking DVD's may very well be irrelevant in a few years would curb my enthusiasm for this release. Hopefully they release this on Blu as well....
mfwahl
though the band is not particularly fond of Blu Ray technology for whatever reason yet.Are we still going on with this?In our recent email blast of 10-28 we discussed the impending release of the film I Am Trying to Break Your Heart on Blu-ray DVD. It's due out in mid-November. In expressing our reservations about it, conceptually, it appears from a handful of comments that we may have confused the message and a clarification may be in order. Please note that our comments were not in any way intended to be an indictment of the merits of Blu-ray as a technology. On the contrary, for many projects and with careful preparation it appears to be quite a valid (if slightly expensive) enhancement.

KansasAl
love when glenn tosses his drum stick in the air and pat catches it. sweet! i think im just impressed by anything glenn does, really.Actually I think that was Pat or Mikael. I think it is Pat. He must have been playing some percussion. Still cool (sorry I'm a former drummer and am kinda anal about stuff). Bring it-in Blu Ray so I can finally have the excuse I need to buy a Blu Ray player!
Moss
Even my 5 yr old daughter was excited! "Look mama, Jeff Tweedy!" I'm doing something right! Extra ice cream for that girl!
creativetype
"I'm on steroids." Can't wait for this film! That was the Tulsa show. Apparently his voice was suffering pretty bad at the Houston show. The next day in Tulsa, Jeff visited a local doc who gave him a steroid shot. Jeff invited the doc to the show, where he sat in front of the rail. Funny banter ensued. Glad it's captured here. April 18 can't get here quick enough.
watchtower41
Are we still going on with this? How does this release have anything to do with the prolonged re-release of IATTBYH on Blu Ray?
mahinty
The trailer is great. Looks like they

watchtower41
You said the band doesn't like Blu-Ray and I posted something with them praising it as a format. I say there is a good chance that this comes out on Blu-Ray. Fair enough. That dispute/confusion was more derived from the fact that plexifilm had plans to release IATTBYH on Blu without Wilco's consent, and then Wilco fighting back by saying the upgrade would hardly be worth it, so in other words, "save your money". That situation still has not got resolved to the best of my knowledge, though I still have the Blu Ray pre-ordered through Amazon Canada and is currently listed on backorder. (USA pulled the pre-order from their site) I think it would be a big mistake not to release this concert film on Blu as well, sure I'm gonna be greedy and biased since I'd love to see it and hear it in all it's high definition glory....but even moreso for Wilco continuing to grow their fanbase. People that never even heard of the band would be tempted to pick this up on Blu Ray. Blu Ray's are nothing short of a full steam phenomenon that is picking up more and more momentum each week.... and for good reason, the technology is amazing... especially when viewing concert/music material. Guest Jules
People that never even heard of the band would be tempted to pick this up on Blu Ray.Why would they do this?
KansasAl
Why would they do this?for the same reason I will sit and watch a HD show just becuase it is in HD. And I am not alone in this. I mean c'mon what is that show called "sunrise" or something like that? I admit to watching it on more than one occassion just becuase it is in HD. Now that being said I get your point and I highly doubt many will buy a band they had never heard of just becuase it is in Blu Ray but....there are boobs like myself that do have a thing for HD. lost highway
But HD tv looks like a DVD. Blu Ray's merits are only visible to those with massive and expensive tv sets, and to them the improvement is a mere subtlety. At least that's what a specialist on NPR told me. I don't mean to be a Luddite, but come on.... 24-bit cd's, blu ray dvds? Some of these new formats seem like little more than cash cows to me. Excuse the rant. Yeah Wilco, put out a new DVD! Wooh! LouisvilleGreg
Very cool that this is coming out on record store day. I'll be at Plan 9 at 10 am sharp. I think I'll pick up the double 10" "Evil Urges" as well.

For the most part that is right. The differences between BR and DVD are very subtle except on screens over 5 ft. and sometimes can actually look worse. Sleepy Hollow comes to mind. The BR is NO improvement on the DVD. The burners and technology are still really expensive for the professional world and as technology changes to download technology I think the BR future does not look bright. And I keep hearing it is making strides toward the mainstream all the time but as of now even after Christmas BR market share is still a whopping 8%. The players even after the big price drops this season did NOT fly off the shelves. I have a BR player but have not invested too much in the media. But for anything Wilco related I would definitely purchase on BR. Still I don't have a lot of confidence in BR and Sony does not have a good track record as far as launching new formats. Anyone remember Betamax and SACD? I still am pissed that HD DVD did not win. It was the superior format and a much cheaper/ easier transition. And we will see how launching a new technology works out in this recession/depression. My guess is not very well. The trailer looks GREAT by the way and I can't wait for this on BR or DVD hopefully both so everyone is satisfied.

futureage1
So, if a band you've never heard of released a BR, would you buy it? No. I can't lie about that. I think that is a stretch but I agree if it was shown on a HD channel a lot of people would watch it because it was in HD. But that's for free I don't think people would buy a BR and not know what to expect from the band. But I'm sure a lot of people have more disposable income than me.
