I think he was - as he was obliviously obsessed with being fit. Which would have been pretty uncommon in those days.

In the early days, he was the one who broke out the fists when there was trouble. I think he was almost kicked out of the band for beating up Keith once.

I've read about that night many, many times over the years. When Youtube came along, I got to see it.

In Dougal's (Keith's assistant) book he devotes a whole bunch of space to that incident.

Last year or so I read Moon's bio "Dear Boy" - depressing read. I haven't read Dougal's and I am not sure I want to.

You probably sholdn't read Moon, then. It goes into pretty great detail about all sorts of depressing aspects of Moon's behavior.

By way of Billboard.com:

The Who Announce 'Quadrophenia' Tour

The Who are heading back on the road after a four-year break and bringing their ambitious 1973 rock opera "Quadrophenia" with them. Surviving original members Pete Townshend and Roger Daltrey announced the tour -- a 36-date romp through North America -- in a web press conference on Wednesday. Daltrey described playing with his longtime bandmate as being in a "war zone."

"Something happens on stage," he said. "Pete drives me. It's rarely dull."

The tour begins its first leg on Nov. 1 in Sunrise, Fla. and runs for six weeks before breaking for the holidays. The tour will resume on Jan. 28 in Anaheim, Calif., making stops in Oakland, Los Angeles and Atlantic City before wrapping up in Providence, R.I. on Feb. 26.

"Quadrophenia" was also the creative focus of the band's 1996-97 tour, and like then, the group plans on ending each night with a selection of "old chestnuts" -- as Townshend called them -- like "Baba O'Reilly" and "Won't Get Fooled Again."

Since then, the Who have toured in 2000, 2002, 2004, 2006 and 2008. The live band will again include drummer Zak Starkey (Ringo's son), bassist Pino Palladino and guitarist Simon Townshend (Pete's brother). Keyboardists Chris Stainton and Loren Gold are also on board.

"Quadrophenia" tells the story of Jimmy, a mod from Brighton with four very different personalities or moods. Townshend has long regarded the album -- which includes the classics "The Real Me," "Love, Reign o'er Me" and "5.15" -- among his best work.

General ticket sales for the tour begin July 27, but fan club members will get access on July 20.

I always thought Quadraphenia was pompous and hard to sit through, but I might go see this. This is the smallest venue The Who have played in Atlanta in my lifetime, or at least, since I was old enough to see them.

Pete Townshend: 'I Remember Mick Jagger's Penis Being Huge and Extremely Tasty'

Townshend made the crack at a press conference announcing a 'Quadrophenia' tour

At a press conference announcing the Who's fall Quadrophenia tour today, Pete Townshend made a racy joke about Mick Jagger. "What I remember of the size of Mick Jagger's penis – I remember it as being huge and extremely tasty," the Who guitarist said, referencing Keith Richards' disparaging remarks on the topic in his 2010 memoir.

As Who singer Roger Daltrey cracked up beside him, Townshend added: "I don't remember anything about Roger's . . . and wouldn't dare to mention it. Let's hope that makes the Internet."

Townshend is writing a memoir which is expected to be released this fall.

The presale for this show is a disaster. Anyone have the fan code? I know this request is uncool, but I have had nothing but trouble with the fan club site. I love the band, this album, and will be attending the Rosemont show, but their web designer must be Barney Fife.

Whoever decided to put the entire tour on sale on the same day at the same time is an idiot or there is some greedy reason for it. This will make it very hard/pure luck to get good tickets. I'll be trying in the AMEX presale on Monday.

not that hard to get great seats if you get VIP which is like $350-$650 on Ft. Lauderdale.

I could have pulled 119 row 1...best side section for $350 +....

BTW, Hate to say it but it it a little too much....are they really still the who?

Yeah its like if Page and Plant had called their tours in the 90s Led Zeppelin. It really ain't The Who without Moon and Entwistle. Starkey and Palladino do a passable job, but its really Daltrey Townsend play The Who songs.

My wife and 12 year old never got to see The Who so we are going. Would you really pay $350 for a concert? The only thing I'd consider paying that much for would be Page, Plant, JPJ and Jason Bonham, regardless of what they decided to call it.

Got tickets today for the Orlando show for me and a couple other guys...three seats, in the middle section, on the floor. Pretty sweet.

I didn't have the "fan club" password, but Ticketbastard lets you automatically join for $50 if you want to purchase tickets today. I figure we can split that three ways and it's worth it. No sign of the password on the web.

I finally got an email with the codes this morning, three days after the initial sale. Grrrr. Either way, I am in. This fall will generate some big buzz towards them with Townshend's autobiography, the Real Me movie, the Olympics, and the tour. My thinking is that they would have one more tour in them after this and then they move on to solo theater shows or enjoy the quietness of their autumn years. If Sir Paul could still bring it in his early 70s, then these guys can still rock. Regardless, to hear the opening riff of "The Real Me" and Pete singing "I Am One" will be terrific.

i just got some sweet tix for the Phoenix show, hell YEAH! I guess I got lucky, I used the phone system for some reason this time and got right through. It was a sweat because I never found any AMEX presale code, but the phone system didn't ask for one, while the website did. Weird. I'm 3rd row lower level at the stage right corner, a perfect view for my son. I'm so glad he's gonna get to see Pete and Roger before they stop playing live altogether. He's a lucky dude for a 12 year old, I'd say!

I thought The Who sounded terrific at tonight's Olympics closing ceremony. Daltry's voice amazing - that man is 67 for god's sake! Bodes well for the Quadrophenia tour. Just found this vid of the performance - which I guess might be taken down soon.

The other highlight was Ray Davies giving a great performance of Waterloo Sunset - very moving, and very appropriate - a love song to London which has turned on an awesome Olympics.

Just read that NBC cut their Olympics closing ceremony coverage 10 mins before the end. So US viewers didn't get to see The Who at all. Whatsmore they apparently cut Ray Davies doing Waterloo Sunset. So that's the two big highlights that US viewers missed out on completely!

Man it must suck to have been relying on NBC coverage of these games. Glad I live in Australia - where coverage on Channel 9 and Foxtel has been pretty awesome.

Oh - it was alright. At least NBC showed most of it. We got to see Brian May tearing it up - that was cool.

I had heard The Who were going to play. I guess I'll have to catch the video. And - Scary Spice. She is ok in my book.
