Best Opening Lines

Recommended Posts

What are some of your favorite lines to begin a song? Never hurts to hit the ground running...

"Dreamed about killing you again last night and it felt alright to me"

-Tweedy

"Well my daddy didn't pull out but he never apologized

Rock n' Roll means well but it can't help telling young boys lies"

-Cooley

Favourite opening lines:

"If the farmer has no silo, then his fuel cost runs up very high

That's just how much I'd love, if you'd just only let me try!"

All You Have To Do Is Dream - Bob Dylan & The Band

Favourite line when sung:

"I am a lineman for the county, and I drive the mainroad.

Searchin' in the sun for another overload."

The Wichita Lineman - Jimmy Webb

Favourite spoken word intro:

"This song is based on a true story

Which would be fine if it wasn't autobiographical"

So, so you think you can tell

Heaven from Hell,

Blue skies from pain.

Can you tell a green field

From a cold steel rail?

A smile from a veil?

Do you think you can tell?

-Pink Floyd, Wish You Were Here

With your mercury mouth in the missionary times,

And your eyes like smoke and your prayers like rhymes,

And your silver cross, and your voice like chimes,

Oh, who among them do they think could bury you?

-Bob Dylan, Sad Eyed Lady of the Lowlands

No one ever wrote better opening lines than those two.

:lol I think even The Who wrote better lyrics than Pink Floyd, and that's saying something! It's a good song though, it works for some reason.
