rhino4evr
the amount of hate for Sky Blue Sky is pretty high for a Wilco message board. How many of you have heard of the band Uncle Tupelo? I mean come on, if anythign SBS was a relapse back to his roots, after two extremely powerfully emotionally lost records. It was a breath of fresh air, after the complexity of GIB Have any of you listened to Wilco's albums in chronological order back to back? You should..I think you would appreciate SBS much more. It has some of the most heartfelt lyrics in the entire Wilco catalog.
!goose!
easy man i love sbs except for like 2 songs

BassMan77
I enjoy SBS, also surprised at some of the hate on here. Its just a collection of good songs. Not every album has to be "experimental."

u2roolz
I'll Fight - Hmm. I'm trying to think of a certain philosophy that was brought up when The Thin Red Line came out in 1999. I remember there was confusion over which actor was which soldier because the 3 leads were relative unknowns. But there was a lengthy article about how that was deliberate to show that in war every man/woman is pretty much the same since they are dressed alike. There's a certain sense of anonymity and losing your identity. So in reference to the song, I think the idea that I keep toying around with is the point that when all is said and done it really didn't matter who went to war in the first place anyways. Both people would maybe end up dead possibly not being able to be identified either. Almost like the irony that in such a situation someone could actually "sell" or "buy" their way into a war for some reason. I don't know how that would work with the draft. But it does also sound like a class struggle. Both men apparently have separate motivations. I'm sure each has a woman they're doing it for too. But one woman will be a widow because her situation is most likely in the poor class. So I guess what I'm trying to get around to is this: if guy dies and can't be identified than there's great tragedy in that he did it for nothing and obtaining a burying place was a waste. Except for his love whom I am sure is set now. Romantic. Kristofor

rhino4evr
Relax - because someone does not like SBS does not mean they are "omg not aware of Jeff Tweedy's history lol Uncle Tupelo check them out y'r missing out." That was more of a joke then a serious question. Im not really angry, just curious and confused by the amount of folks that seem to treat the album like a disappointment. It can't be everything for everyone, I understand that. I could see why people expecting the next YHF would be disappointed..but this IS a Wilco Message Board..in this case, Im surprised at all the positive reactions to this album. It's not a return to the YHF or GIB days..

Also it has no relation whatsoever to the Song I'll Fight.
u2roolz
!lgoose!, I realize that. I was just trying to use that movie as an example to put across my opinion on the song which keeps changing with each listen. Kristofor
KevinG
Okay, so now that I have most of the lyrics to Bull Black Nova (thanks, lyrics thread!), I still don't think it's about murder. I mean, the metaphors, yeah, but it sounds to be an awful lot like an extended metaphor for a relapse. I think I might be holding a hammer on this one, but anyone else's thoughts? As I said before I believe it is a follow up to Via Chicago. Either it is a description of the dream he had about killing his girlfriend, or the fulfillment of said dream. It is a dark creepy song that makes you want to shake your groove thing.

Hoodoo Man
I listened to it twice and liked it, but those listens were at work. The true test will come when I can listen to it in my truck with it cranked to 11. That's usually where I either fall in love with or out of love with an album.

Edie
I would love to see single threads per song -- probably too late now though. I can't read this whole thing right now and prefer to comment on each song individually My #1 comment on Bull Black Nova -- it reminds me of what a lucid dream is like at 6 am -- that intense, can't-make-anything-happen-the-way-you-want-it-to feeling. So evocative and wonderfully jangly. Also, YAY bells on Wilco (the song)
mpolak21
Also, YAY bells on Wilco (the song) That was my first swooning moment on my first listen. I think I might have posted "Yes! They brought the Can't Stand It bells back" on one of these threads, but if I didn't, that was my immediate reaction. This is such a kickass pop record, it's like The New Pornographers or ELO, and Tweedy's lyrics are incredible, I think I might love this entire thing. --Mike.
Killer Whales
Closing in on 10 listens and this thing just refuses to quite growing on me. It's really better every time. The sequencing of You and I after BBN is so great too. It's almost as if BBN is a dream and he wakes up from it next to his wife. So many ranges of emotion on this record, and each song is so unique, but not lacking in quality at all

babble
I've been listening to this continuously for hours now and it really is starting to grow on me. And yes I don't like SBS and that doesn't make me a bad person There are just some amazing lyrics on this album and hey Wilco will love you, baby!
