My kid and I watched the Indiana Jones type one and Star Wars one this past weekend - entertaining (I did doze off, but I was sick, in my defense.)

Check that - it was Batman, not Star Wars (hell it could have been a remake "Barbarella" for all I know.)

Holy shit The Wolf of Wall Street. Finally watched it. Holy shit what a great, great movie.

The book made me ill. What a total douche that guy is/was. If reincarnation is real, he'll come back as a maggot.

Wolf of Wall Street and American Hustle were two of my favorites for the past year.

Yeah, he's a fuck. Not sure what to make of his having a cameo in the movie, but overall it sure depicted him as a depraved maniac surrounded by soulless lunatics.

I hope he spends the rest of his life working to pay back the money he stole from people.

I didnt see the film though, just read the book. Too many kids running around the house, I dont want to expose them to that crap.

I recall reading that he's only paid back about $11 million, of the $100+ million he was ordered to. And that was only from sales of his property - so he actually hasn't paid back anything from his earnings (from the movie, from the book, from his speaking engagements, etc.)

Great movie, though I'm not sure where I would rank it in Scorsese's career. I think his five best are: Raging Bull, Goodfellas, Taxi Driver, No Direction Home, and The Aviator.

The King of Comedy

I got the soundtrack of that on vinyl at a garage sale some years ago.

Nice placement of The Aviator. I think my top five would be about the same, with The King of Comedy tossed in somewhere near the top, probably pushing NDH out.

For me, the Aviator has only gotten better with age.

I think he has three masterpieces: Raging Bull, Taxi Driver, and Goodfellas, and then he has a big handful of great, but lesser movies, which includes Last Temptation, Casino, King of Comedy, Wolf of Wall Street, The Departed, The Aviator, No Direction Home, After Hours, Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore, Mean Streets, Age of Innocence, Hugo...

Gangs of New York has a ton of brilliant quotable moments from Daniel Day Lewis, but the movie's kind of a mess..

I haven't seen Boxcar Bertha or Shine a Light, haven't watched New York New York all the way through, and I don't recall much of Kundun. I enjoyed Shutter Island and Cape Fear, and surprisingly, a recent viewing of the Color of Money held up - it isn't bad at all. The George Harrison doc is a bit too long.

I'm pretty simpatico with all of those sentiments, except I haven't seen Hugo and I'd place Cape Fear higher - Shine A Light is worth a look. I've yet to watch the George doc, which is strange, since I've had it sitting on my computer for years now.

the 2nd half of the George doc is like the 2nd half of his career. Kinda boring and uninspired (though I love him so).

I haven't seen Cape Fear since it was out - so I'm definitely interested in seeing again. My memory is probably more familiar with the Simpsons' parody at this point. (I can see Sideshow Bob repeatedly stepping on the rakes more easily than any solid memory I have of Cape Fear).

I look for that at every record store I visit, and it's there nearly every single time.

Thats such a lie, you're just jealous.

Last Temptation

I really respect what Scorsese did with this one.  I'm kind of ashamed of how many of my fellow Christians treated it.  It is probably the only cinematic presentation of Christ that shows his full humanity.  Passion of the Christ, maybe, but the bloodlust that overtakes the 2nd half of that movie makes you quickly forget anything else.  I think it also captures the spirit of Judea under Roman control more fully than any other "Biblical Epic."

While there are obvious liberties with the Gospel, they mostly show temptation.  In the end, Jesus overcomes his temptation and fulfills his mission.  It's beautiful.  I especially love Harry Dean Stanton as Paul.  I think this movie helps show Scorsese's range.

Watched "Machete Kills" last night. Needs more boobs and a bit too long but still, it was fun.

Last weekend I happened to notice Purple Rain was on TV. Do you realize it has been almost 30 years since that film was originally in theaters? Yesterday, I was reading an article by way of DIGG about washed up celebrities doing autograph conventions. And who should be in one of the photos? Apollonia, of course.
