I hope this is good:

The trailer looks like Scorsese Flicks 101, but that's never a bad thing...

Set in New York's late '70s music scene, looks very promising. Watched a couple of episodes of the new Denis Leary show "Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll," very underwhelming. I hope this new one will redeem things as far as music/rock based shows go.

I saw the trailer for Vinyl last night and it looks great. Unfortunately, it doesn't come till 2016. I feel like they were going to pair this with David Fincher's show about the music video biz in the 80s, but HBO halted production on that after seeing a few episodes. Speaking of HBO, when are they ever going to put on Westworld?

There was also a sequel called Futureworld.

I remember that one, Blythe Danner was in it if I recall. Not as good as the first one, but I'm a sucker for '60s-'70s sci-fi, so it was still passable in my books

Then you must like Silent Running - with the great Bruce Dern.

Oh yeah, that was a great one! I love a lot of the stuff from that era: The Omega Man, Soylent Green, Solaris, Logan's Run.... Not as much great sci-fi in the '80s, but there were a few gems like The Quiet Earth and Blade Runner.

Have you seen Born In Flames (1983)? I have not, but it was brought to my attention last night on social media. The plot sounds very interesting and timely:  documentary-style feminist science fiction film by Lizzie Borden that explores racismclassismsexism and heterosexism in an alternative United States socialist democracy

I have some of those on dvd. There is also one with Adam Ant and Bruce Dern called World Gone Wrong. It's from the late 80s though.

It's on Youtube.

I have that on DVD, but haven't seen it yet. Thanks for the reminder, going to watch that this week if I can.

Thanks! I'll have to watch it on YouTube.

It was a very bizarre coincidence on Facebook. Someone mentioned this film on a movie page in response to the upcoming Amazon series The Man In The High Castle. That's about what would have happened if the Nazis won WWII. I totally forgot that I watched the pilot this winter and voted for it to get the greenlight. Also, someone posted a thank you recommendation of Born In Flames on a video store in Maine that has a ton of rare stuff: Videoport.

I'm a huge fan of alternate reality stories: Watchmen, Fringe and Superman: Red Son.

Oh! What region DVD do you have? The IMDB pic looks like it's a UK release.

It's region 1, put out by First Run Features.

p.s. thanks for the heads up on "Faults." Watched that last night, good story and cast, was quite impressed.

I am curious to see The Man In The High Castle. And we may finally get to see The Dark Tower in a couple of years.

The pilot is still on Amazon Prime, if you're subscribed to that. There is supposedly the 2nd episode somewhere online. I'm guessing this will premiere fall or early next year.

I might look to buy that if I like the film.

Yes, that was a great film. It had quite a magnetic quality to it. I was hooked from that opening scene. Leland Orser is overdue for some type of villain role in all of the comic book movies.

Me too. The Orser character just teeters on the edge right from the start, like a train wreck you can't turn away from.

Speaking of "cult" themed films, ever see Martha Marcy May Marlene or Sound of My Voice? Recommended if you haven't.

No. M4 is on my list to see. I don't recall seeing that on NetFlix. I feel like it's on one of the pay channel's on demand selections.

Sound Of My Voice looked interesting too. Brit Marling has been great in the stuff that I've seen her.

I saw Joel Edgerton's The Gift which was one of the best thrillers that I've seen in a long time. I feel like I can't add anything else without giving away something that would ruin the experience. Definitely on my year end list. Another great film from an Australian who wears 4 different hats like a fine skilled craftsman, but is actually a feature directing debut.
