88 was a great year as well

I saw that YouTube channel the other day, good stuff. I'll check that 94 show out. I have been looking at some of the 94-95 era vids on YouTube and it's kind of amazing to me that they just kept the bus going. I understand they felt obligation to everyone, office staff, fans etc to keep it going but how it was fun with Garcia in that condition is beyond me, it looked like he was about die (which he was i guess.) Glad i was at least able to see him in good shape.

Kind of morbid question but does anyone know when he got back on the shit? Guess I'm curious because from what I've read, the coma experience made him never want to go through that again and obviously at some point the demons got to him and that changed. Curious how long he was able to go before his playing really started to deteriorate and if the rest of the band tried to address it. Also read that one of the reasons Bruce left was because he was using.

seemed to me that he was clean some in 88 and 89 and 90 and started after Brent died. I remember him on some TV special with Carlos Santana and thats when he was sober.

Hey, hey a show where I was at. My first show where I saw them inside. I had seats that where more less towards the side of the stage and a bit up, a great vantage point to watch Hart and Kreutzman. This run is when Healy was canned - there was a chant of "Turn it up" either at this show or the next one.

yeah, i remember that run being kind of quiet. rosemont was always fun.

Yeah, thats what.i thought, it just makes me sad watching all those vids from 89 and seeing how engaged he was and how clearly he was having fun and then to see how fast he slipped, just ashame.

been watching a lot of the vids from the link posted a while back. it's so interesting to see how drastically garcia changed when he hit age 40. his voice went in 82, from what i can see. his playing was still great, but gradually went to shit in 91. it's just so weird to see an 81 video with garcia moving around, smiling and singing so well and in a matter of months he's put on a ton of weight and loses his voice.

just some observations.

It looks like all of the Europe '72 shows are coming out individually:

You clamored. You cried. You called so loudly for single shows from the much-touted tour of '72, we had no choice but to listen! We're proud to announce that we'll be releasing all 22 Europe '72 shows individually, in the order that they occurred, by the end of the calendar year. Get the first 6 shows here.

Maybe Calvino can tell us which ones he thinks are the best.

I am only up to show 6, the April 16th (Show 5) is a fun show and perhaps my favorite so far. They all sound very good, though at times, Kreutzmann seems a bit low in the mix. Pigpen is great, throughout. I must admit sometimes his organ playing bugs me a bit, not so on this tour.

It does suck that the entire Europe 72 run is off of the Archive.

It's still funny to me that they are putting these shows out with such great care and quality, and people are demanding Mp3 downloads. What other band could put out that many cds and probably not really be all that interested in how much they sell? I bet some people who bought the giant box set are pissed that all the shows are coming out now individually.

That's why I think it's pretty shitting that they the took it off the Archive - if people what to stream it or rip an MP3 off the Archive, so be it.

I am not pissed that they are selling the individual shows - I figured they would. Might as well, like you said, they put all this effort to do every show.

I figured they would take them down. I've noticed the other stuff that gets released (Dick's Picks/Road Trips) is left on there for streaming only. I'd like to have some of those shows. I think the only one I have from that tour is Hundred Year Hall.

I picked up Europe '72 today. I had to decide between that and Pearl Jam 20. But the Grateful Dead was on sale for 10 bucks. It started off with Bertha so it's already off to a great start. I might pick up some of the individual shows along the way.

I did the Fall 1972 reviews for the compendium and various other shows...in my opinion fall 1972 was much better than the europe 72 tour...9.17.1972 Other One...9.28.1972 Other One...9.27.1972 Dark Star...11.18.1972 PITB...12.15.1972 Dark Star...12.11.1972 Dark Star...12.31.1972 Other One....etc.

Wilco hit me the same way the dead hit me...can't get enough...
