lost highway
I don't know about anyone else, but now that I've heard the album a few times this one keeps popping into my head. It's definitely got a dance in your bedroom kind of energy. Tweedy has taken a stab at falsetto a few times over the past few records, but I feel like he only just nailed it here. This one could be really fun live. "And I know that I won't beeasiest to seeand I know that I won't be the lastcold captain tied to the mast I'm on the other sideunsatisfied(?)I'm lookin for your love." LaughingDog
I agree, I missed this one the first couple of listens but it's one of my favorites now. The harmonies of "Whoooooole love".... so catchy.
bleedorange
I agree and said as much in my initial thoughts on the album. This song has so much going on it and is perfectly placed on the album. I'm anxious to hear it again.
LaughingDog
Anyone else get a Theologians vibe off this song?? No? Just Me?? Okay
lost highway
I get that. It doesn't sound like "Theologians", but it feels like it. Something like spiritual pop music, or stating some really deep convictions over something you can tap your foot to.

Guest McGuffin
It's a very close relative to "You and I," in my opinion. That means it's okay. The last minute is the best part of it.

I cannot hear that at all. I'm interested, if you care to elaborate! I agree the last minute is great.
parisisstale
Pat really shined on a few of the new tracks at Solid Sounds, including this one. I'm loving his ever-increasing role, both live and in the studio.
JAK2112
I think Pat's heightened role in the studio is what helped kick this album up a notch. I think the last few albums have been missing the constant collaboration that made Summerteeth/YHF/AGIB so great (with both Jay B and Jim O'rourke). Hopefully this trend continues into the future. Al.Ducts
I love when the chugging guitar cuts in around 1:
IRememberDBoon
my favorite song on the album as of today
!goose!
Is there any chance the guitar solo on Standing O , since its two guitars doing a call and response (sounds like nels in the left speaker and pat in the right, but i guess it could be jeff) would be done live in the context of hoodoo voodoo? Guest Speed Racer
New favorite song on the album. Can't get enough of it. Would love if I could actually understand have the lyrics, though.
Robby
This sounds like a song Wings would have done back in the 70's - Helen Wheels or Hi, Hi, Hi - something along those lines. I don't mean I don't like it, but the song just reminds me of Paul McCartney.
i'm only sleeping
Jeff's singing is fantastic here, with those changes from falsetto to...whatever. Impossible to singalong without damaging your throat.

choo-choo-charlie
This one's been happily bouncing around in my head for a week now. Me too, along with just about every other tune from the record. And I haven't listened for a week.

Ghost of Electricity
went straight to this one today, then played OSM, then listened to the whole record in order.
u2roolz
Probably my 2nd favorite song on this. Amazed that I saw the live debut of this at Night 1 of Solid Sound. Edit: I always crank it up in the "I'm simple as a matter fact" part. Anyways, I have a question about the lyrics. Is it:"I won't ever forget her""I won't ever forget how""I won't ever forget...ha" I swear that in the live version Jeff sings "I won't ever fuck it up!" Either way all 3 (or 4) variations work well within the context of the song. Lastly, I hear "co-captain" not "cold captain" "tied to the mast". And every time I hear "past" I always expect Jeff to come back with "last", but he tricks us with "whole love".
Magnetized
Lastly, I hear "co-captain" not "cold captain" "tied to the mast". Same here! It actually does sound like cold captain, but what the hell is a cold captain? So my money's on co-captain. That's one of many reasons why I'm so looking forward to lyric sheets for this record.
