How did you come by your VC Handle?
cryptique replied to bigshoulders's topic in Tongue-Tied Lightning
I thought it was your attempt to strike fear into the hearts of your D-ladder squash opponents. -
A Series of Sneaks is not only their finest album, but one of the finest albums ever.

How did you come by your VC Handle?
cryptique replied to bigshoulders's topic in Tongue-Tied Lightning
When I was signing up for a Yahoo mail account many years ago, I wanted an identity that didn't include any numbers, and I kept entering stuff hoping it would be available. Everything I tried was unavailable. I exhausted my ready supply of options and simply began making shit up. I entered "cryptique" and it went through -- after thirty or forty unsuccessful attempts. It was only later that I discovered that "cryptique" is French for "cryptic" (at least that's what Babel Fish tells me). For some reason I've stuck with the name ever since in a variety of arenas. Metro (chicago venue) nixes Ticketmaster

Being that Live Nation is the demon spawn of Clear Channel, I expect their ticketing service to be at least as evil as TicketBastard. -
Metro (chicago venue) nixes Ticketmaster
cryptique replied to Duck-Billed Catechist's topic in Someone Else's Song
Is that an apples-to-apples comparison, though? Metro is just one venue in a city with dozens of venues its size or larger, so it's a pretty insignificant percentage of the whole. I don't know anything about the Twin Cities' situation, but you spoke in terms of a city rather than a single venue. If all (or most) of the Twin Cities venues are banded together against TicketBastard, then sure, that can work -- but it wouldn't be comparable to Metro flying solo in a competitive environment. I hope you're right, and that Metro can still bring in the same caliber of artists as before ... but I'l -
Metro (chicago venue) nixes Ticketmaster

More likely, it'll just mean that Metro will no longer attract the same kinds of artists it used to. -
edit: Crap, I guess my postcount in this thread is now up to 2.

If John sang it, it must have been "It's Just That Simple." They've been doing that one a lot over the past several months.

Not bad. -
Yeah, this is fantastic, thanks for your efforts. ...though it's also kind of depressing to see how much stuff I don't have and/or haven't even heard.

The park looks good. It's very much in the same vein as a lot of the other recently opened parks, but that's not a bad thing. On a not-particularly-related subject, how many artificial-turf MLB parks remain? I can only think of three: Minnesota, Toronto, and Tampa Bay. How long before we're rid of those, too? Funny ... I remember when the National League was the league with more artificial turf. Now it's 100% natural grass.

We may not have a chance for that on this trip. First priority for restaurants is Amitabul (hopefully it's still open, but I've been worried about that place closing for over fifteen years now and it keeps hanging on somehow). Second ... probably Ethiopian Diamond.

Maybe we'll bump into you. Depending on the weather, we're hoping to hit several of our favorite spots in town on Friday and Saturday.

D&D was never my thing, but many of my friends were completely captivated by it. article Dungeons & Dragons co-creator dies at 69 By EMILY FREDRIX, Associated Press Writer MILWAUKEE - Gary Gygax, who co-created the fantasy game Dungeons & Dragons and helped start the role-playing phenomenon, died Tuesday morning at his home in Lake Geneva. He was 69. He had been suffering from health problems for several years, including an abdominal aneurysm, said his wife, Gail Gygax. I enjoyed this column from Salon.com today... - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Flag pins are for losers -- literally Conservatives are still hitting Barack Obama for having an empty lapel, but guess what happened to all the presidential candidates who did wear flag pins? By Jerome Doolittle Mar. 04, 2008 | Is a man fit to be commander in chief if he won't even fly the flag from his buttonhole? Does that man, Barack Obama, think he's "too good -- too patriotic! -- to wear a flag pin on his chest?" Because that's what William Kristol believes. Grow up, the Chicago Sun-Times advises: " -

Loved King Kaufman's column this morning... - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - King Kaufman's Sports Daily Once more with absurdity: In an NBA do-over, the Heat won't lose Shaq to fouls in overtime vs. the Hawks. But they still can't use him. Mar. 04, 2008 | The NBA has set up the guidelines for the Atlanta Hawks and Miami Heat to replay the last 51.9 seconds of their Dec. 19 game Saturday night. The guidelines are: Do whatever you want. The Hawks won that game 117-111, putting it away after Heat center Shaquille O'Neal fouled out with 51 seconds left in overtime and the Hawks up by one

Probably more time than I spent. Two minutes for my picks, then another two formatting them in bold and/or red text.

How hard did you have to search to find the positive reviews? I'm wondering how many of them said things like "OMG who R these old guyz?!!?" and "Soundz like crap my dad would listen 2" and "I wish they'd give Ashlee Simpson a chance to prove herself!!!!!" and "Wilco sold out their fans in Charleston!!1!"
