This show was a definite slow builder. I think they were going through the motions for about the first 8-10 songs, but from "Misunderstood" on the show was very good. The Pot Kettle Black/ Poor Places/ Reservations trio was just about perfect. I was a little disappointed in the setlist varierty, and that the TP's were only utilized in the encores, but those are minor complaints really. The venue was very nice with great acoustics for an outdoor venue and there were gobs of people there. I was in the reserved seating down front, but the lawn area was very packed and deep as well. I just listened to most of "Louder Than Love" while driving 560 miles yesterday. It reminded me of driving around in '91 or so and blaring "Big Dumb Sex" really loudly with the windows rolled down on a busy street to try and get a reaction out of people. All joking aside, the riff in that song is one for the ages. I don't think I'd go see them, but I certainly was a big fan throughout the early years.

Down the home stretch of the "Magic" tour they've been collecting song requests on stage and playing some real oldies and super rarities. "Held up without a gun" has been played twice. A song I'm not familiar with called "Little Latin Lupe Lu" was played for the first time since the 70's at the recnet Boston stadium show. Someone wrote in the lyrics and the key of the song on the request and they gave it a go. They've also been opening with "Summertime Blues" and have closed with "twist and Shout" a few times. I guess the day after I wait in line for the New Year's MMJ, so thatwould be 1/1/09. Louisville weather is callingfor scattered thunderstorms on Saturday. That might cut back quite a bit on any line insanity.

I just got into Louisville today. I'm gonna go down and stake my place in line out tomorrow. If two hours is insanity, then I know about 15 people who should all have the keys thrown away. I reckon I spent about 40 or so hours in sub-zero temps that week. I'm looking forward to doing it again, even if it is in February.

I grew up in southern Indiana and you were either a Reds fan a Cards fan or a Cubs fan. I was drawn to the Cubs because nearly every game was on tv (WGN) and they conveniently came on right when I got home from school. I love the days of Andre Dawson, Sandberg, Maddux early on, Shawon Dunston, Mark Grace. Still a fan and glad to see that for once they have a legitimate team that could do big things. Wilco and the Cubs together will be a treat for me. Wish I could be there, but I'll definitely watch.

I'm gonna hold out one week to hear them live first, but I must say all of the talk of them picking up where SBS left off or being SBS outtakes worries me. I don't think I've listened to SBS in more than six months. Everything else is still in the rotation.

That run they were on those seminal six albums in three years is unparelled in rock hitory and it could never happen in a million years today. I would put them second to the Beatles during those years, even ahead of the Stones. I too rank them as the most important American band ever.

"Prairie Wind" is a pretty heavy album to me. Heavy in that the majority of the songs deal with his father's death and his own battle with mortality after his brain aneurysum. Some of the tracks are a bit to over the top with the orchestra arrangements, but "Far From Home," "Falling of the face of the Earth," "The Painter," and "It's A Dream" all pack quite an emotional wallop. Seeing Neil with any configuration with Wilco would be a can't miss concert.
