  1. Here's johnny Cash with the Carter Family doing their take on "Roses"
  2. "Easy Beat" was finally released on vinyl recently for those who don't know. Can't wait to see them in December in DC.
  3. no luck at all. i'm looking for two. any help would be greatly appreciated. I've posted in the ticket exchange, but this thread's much longer, so thought I'd try here as well. thanks, greg
  4. Two of us tried for 20 minutes with no luck. Add me to the pile for 2 please. Thanks in advance, Greg
  5. Some of the lyrics aside, really digging it upon first listen, a good upbeat pop song. Some of the drums reminded me of something from the YHF demos, maybe the rockin' version of "Kamera."
  6. I have all of the 70's albums on vinyl and I think have "Permanent Vacation," as well. "Rocks" is not only my favorite, but I saw an interview once where Slash said it was his favorite record of all time and that Appetite would've never happened had there been no "Rocks."
  7. Obama recently admitted that he wasn't Christ, just that he was Supeman.
  8. Not to highjack the thread or anything, but how was Sweet?
  9. "Dream Police" come on at my gym yesterday and it motivated me to work harder!
  10. holy shit this can't be good news. Heavy vibes coming your way Jim.
  11. Jim James cancels Obama fundraiser following injury By Jeffrey Lee Puckett
  12. Just heard on the radio here in Louisville that Jim James of My Morning Jacket fell off of the stage last night in Iowa and sustained a head injury. He was treated in a local hospital and released. It sounds as if both of the Chicago shows are cancelled. That's all I know and they're doesn't seem to be any details floating around on line yet.
  13. I saw Chisel in '96 in a tiny club in Indianapolis and they were absolutely incredible. ome of the catchiest songs from the 90's for sure. "8 AM All day" is essential if you're a new Ted fan. I've been a fan of the Pharmacists since the beginning. Their current bassist, Marty, has Richmond roots and played in both Born Against and The (Young) Pioneers.
  14. Wow, I've been ducking the setlists of late, as a few weeks ago it seemed they were stalling out abit, but this sounds amazing. I'm all over some EasyMorning Rebel, definitely an understated song in the MMJ canon. And those first 3 songs out of the gate, that's so 5 or 6 years ago of them. And yes Evon, you are correct about all things Portland, except I would also add great record stores and great book stores and great public transportation and oh yeah it really is very pleasing on the eyes. I'm in Louisville again already, visiting family and really thinking of making a run at
  15. Going back to Levon's book again: My favorite part is during the early days of touring with The Hawk they were playing some honky tonk bar somewhere and they got stiffed on payment. They waited in a field aways down from the bar until late at night after everyone had left and went back in, doused it with gas. They left a trail of gas out into the field, lit it, torched the place and blew themselves over in the process. The local cop came and realized what they had done and told them to go ahead and get out of there, as the owner had it coming to him. We need more rock bands like that these day
  16. Off the wire from Backstreets.com, a long-standing Bruce fanzine and website: "GOOD EVENING, AMERICAN FOOTBALL ENTHUSIASTS!" Bruce is ready for some football So we've got a concert date for 2009, and it's a big one. After months of rumors, the NFL made it official last night, announcing that Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band will be the halftime entertainment at 2009's Super Bowl XLIII. In recent years the Stones have done it, U2, Paul McCartney, Prince and Tom Petty... and now, some three-and-a-half decades later, Mike Appel's plan comes to fruition. Super Bowl Sunday is February 1, 2
  17. I found this on Greasy lake, one of many Springsteen fan sites: 2008-09-17 Album and tour in the works? The Magic Tour has only just ended when there is already speculation about a new album and tour. According to a source, Bruce is currently spending time in Brendan O'Brien's studio in Atlanta with select members of the E Street Band working on a new project. The plan is allegedly to finish an album and follow it up with a four-month mini-tour in the spring. The reason for the short tour could be Max Weinberg's move to Los Angeles when Conan O'Brian take over from Jay Leno which will happen
  18. I haven't gotten this yet, sounds like it should be high on my priority list after reading your comments and several great reviews. Here's one from our "good" pals at Pitchfork: TV on the Radio: Dear Science [interscope; 2008] Rating: 9.2 Dear Science, TV on the Radio's follow-up to 2006's Return to Cookie Mountain-- a dense and textural album with an optimistic core-- is catchier, but thornier than its predecessor. Musically, it's an instant grabber: Handclaps crack like fireworks. TVOTR's horns, courtesy of the Antibalas Afrobeat Orchestra, sound punchier and brighter than ever before.
  19. The man has been on an incredibly prolific and terrific tear over the last few years. I fully expect a new E Street album in the next 6 months. Word has it, the one is already largely complete. He looks better at 59, than I do in my mid - 30's.
  20. The most recent album by The Coup is loaded with heavy and humorous protest songs. A great, underrated band.
  21. I haven't reread this entire thread and I'm sure it's covered in here somewhere, But "It Makes No Difference," may be the most haunting, chilling vocal performance I've ever heard. I can put it on at virtually anytime and start to tear up. The "stampeding cattle" line just destroys me. I'm getting emotional right now just thinking about it. One of my top 5 favorites of all time!
  22. CHUCK RAGAN, TIM BARRY AND BEN NICHOLS ANNOUNCE THE REVIVAL TOUR, WHICH WILL KICK OFF IN SEPTEMBER In a match made in folk-punk heaven, Hot Water Music
  23. First of all, I don't know the story behind the billboard, but it's one of the coolest things I think I've ever seen. And secondly Dag Nasty were great. Thirdly, am I the only one on here who liked Junkyard?
  24. How are those orange, blue and red uniforms looking?
  25. Yeah, they have listed all of the precise gate and stage times on their website. They play close to 3 hours, so 7 probably reflects a weekday sound curfew for Charlottesville. Well, you know what I'll be wearing, say hello if you see me. Otherwise we could still meet up at the Taphouse sometime. I've got three friends that work there, a bartender, a waitress an even a dishwasher. Have a great show.
