  1. The SB organizers have been trying for this for years, it's a no brainer and would be quite good as far as those dreadful things go.
  2. Anyone see the 7 year old kid playing Shot in the Arm at the end of Danny's blog? too cute for words
  3. I believe our felloe VCer John Lackey designed the Cary poster, and it's a pretty one indeed.
  4. Charles, Thanks for the links, it's been awhile since I've looked at those, what a great time that was. Next time I see you at a show I'll do a proper introduction. Take care, Greg
  5. This show was a definite slow builder. I think they were going through the motions for about the first 8-10 songs, but from "Misunderstood" on the show was very good. The Pot Kettle Black/ Poor Places/ Reservations trio was just about perfect. I was a little disappointed in the setlist varierty, and that the TP's were only utilized in the encores, but those are minor complaints really. The venue was very nice with great acoustics for an outdoor venue and there were gobs of people there. I was in the reserved seating down front, but the lawn area was very packed and deep as well. I got to spe
  6. I just listened to most of "Louder Than Love" while driving 560 miles yesterday. It reminded me of driving around in '91 or so and blaring "Big Dumb Sex" really loudly with the windows rolled down on a busy street to try and get a reaction out of people. All joking aside, the riff in that song is one for the ages. I don't think I'd go see them, but I certainly was a big fan throughout the early years.
  7. Down the home stretch of the "Magic" tour they've been collecting song requests on stage and playing some real oldies and super rarities. "Held up without a gun" has been played twice. A song I'm not familiar with called "Little Latin Lupe Lu" was played for the first time since the 70's at the recnet Boston stadium show. Someone wrote in the lyrics and the key of the song on the request and they gave it a go. They've also been opening with "Summertime Blues" and have closed with "twist and Shout" a few times. One week from tonight they'll be in Richmond. Can't wait. Now to decide on a reques
  8. I guess the day after I wait in line for the New Year's MMJ, so thatwould be 1/1/09. Louisville weather is callingfor scattered thunderstorms on Saturday. That might cut back quite a bit on any line insanity.
  9. I just got into Louisville today. I'm gonna go down and stake my place in line out tomorrow. But if any of you VCers who are gonna be there wanna make plans for meeting up early in the day on Saturday drop me a pm. I'm planning on showing some MMJ fans how we Wilcoholics do a GA line. They won't know what hit 'em.
  10. Smokin' From Shootin' might've cracked my Top 5 MMJ songs. I need to see it live first to confirm this. Louisville soon enough. Hey Evonne any word on that NYE ticket? See you very soon, Greg
  11. If two hours is insanity, then I know about 15 people who should all have the keys thrown away. I reckon I spent about 40 or so hours in sub-zero temps that week. I'm looking forward to doing it again, even if it is in February.
  12. Any last minute pre or post show gatherings for VCERs. Open to suggestions. We'll be staying a few blocks from the venue within walking distance. take care and see you'll there, greg
  13. I grew up in southern Indiana and you were either a Reds fan a Cards fan or a Cubs fan. I was drawn to the Cubs because nearly every game was on tv (WGN) and they conveniently came on right when I got home from school. I love the days of Andre Dawson, Sandberg, Maddux early on, Shawon Dunston, Mark Grace. Still a fan and glad to see that for once they have a legitimate team that could do big things. Wilco and the Cubs together will be a treat for me. Wish I could be there, but I'll definitely watch.
  14. I'm gonna hold out one week to hear them live first, but I must say all of the talk of them picking up where SBS left off or being SBS outtakes worries me. I don't think I've listened to SBS in more than six months. Everything else is still in the rotation.
  15. That run they were on those seminal six albums in three years is unparelled in rock hitory and it could never happen in a million years today. I would put them second to the Beatles during those years, even ahead of the Stones. I too rank them as the most important American band ever.
  16. Just booked the Best Western within walking distance of the venue. I'll be there with my girlfriend, Annette. Also Courtney/ Magazine Called Sunset will be at the same hotel all the way from Chicago. Keep us posted if there are any eating plans pre-show. Take care, Greg
  17. "Prairie Wind" is a pretty heavy album to me. Heavy in that the majority of the songs deal with his father's death and his own battle with mortality after his brain aneurysum. Some of the tracks are a bit to over the top with the orchestra arrangements, but "Far From Home," "Falling of the face of the Earth," "The Painter," and "It's A Dream" all pack quite an emotional wallop. Seeing Neil with any configuration with Wilco would be a can't miss concert. This guy contributed more to the rock canon in the first decade of his career than most people have in a lifetime and As noted Wilco and Jeff
  18. Sorry I'm late, but hope all was well. Looking forward to hanging with you and Rick again someday. Best wishes, Greg
  19. This is from today's front page in the local Richmond daily. It's been tossed around alot here for well over a year. Read into it what you will, Greg Obama leaning toward VP Kaine? Sources say the governor may be a top vice-presidential prospect By JEFF E. SCHAPIRO TIMES-DISPATCH STAFF WRITER Gov. Timothy M. Kaine declined today to issue a "Shermanesque" statement that he would turn down Sen. Barack Obama
  20. I suppose saying he was punched sounds more glamorous than an injury while rafting.
  21. A pretty good read on the Dog in their hometown paper. Enjoy. Dr. Dog has its day Recognition is coming to the hard-working Philly band and its must-hear music. Now there's a new album, "Fate." By Dan DeLuca Inquirer Music Critic The five guys in Dr. Dog and their dog Zimba are sitting around their Kensington recording studio on a sunny afternoon talking about Fate. That's this steadily rising band's new album, and the most-focused showcase yet for their harmony-happy carnival of sound that invites contemporary listeners with songs that playfully echo cherished '60s acts like th
  22. I was at a red light at midnight the other night in Richmond and someone in the car next to me was blaring "I'm Amazed,: at the exact same time I was listening to "Aluminum Park." I tried to flag the person down but they didn't notice me. Thge world seemed pretty good at that moment.
  23. Alright it's been awhile so I'll try again. Does anyone out there have Psychedelic Swamp and if so are you willing to share it?
  24. I guess that's a pretty neat thing to be known for. His dad should've had the forersight to ask for some miniscule percentage of record sales for the cover. They'd probably be millionaires by now.
