  1. I just saw "Revolutionary Road" by Sam Mendes yesterday. It was about as damning a critique of societal and cultural norms in American life in the 20th Century as I've ever seen. Very well acted by Dicaprio and Winslett, if not a bit heavy handed at times. I've generally been very impressed with Mendes and this is no letdown from earlier works "American Beauty," and "Road to Perdition." I've aslo seen "Milk," "Slumdog Millionaire," and "Benjamin Button" recently. "The Wrestler," has yet to make it to Richmond, though it should be coming soon.
  2. Yeah the upset and point spread were spot on, I need to work on my point totals though.
  3. This was a ridiculous year for inductees 1999 Inductees: * Billy Joel * Bruce Springsteen * Curtis Mayfield * Del Shannon * Dusty Springfield * Paul McCartney * The Staple Singers
  4. Damn I had forgotten all about how great that Factory Belt site is. Very thoroughly researched.
  5. Prediction for a big weekend upset: Louisville over Pitt. Something around 84-79.
  6. I'll give the SNL performance a shot. As for the MMJ comments, I think "It Still Moves," would be right there with "At Dawn," for me, if you trimmed about 15 minutes off of its length.
  7. I'm sure I'm one of the very few who doesn't get the hype at all. I bought the album some time back and have listened several times through now and I'm not feeling it. I love MMJ who everyone seems to compare them to and appreciate CSNY, but this is nowhere close to either of those two to my ears.
  8. I hadn't even thought of Motorhead until I read that Metallica article. What an absolutely essential band. We should start out own VC Hall of Fame and figure out some sort of formula of our own. Also, since Metallica is feeling all inclusive, does this mean Mustaine will be part of the festivities. Lastly, does the Hall leave it up to bands to determine how to handle former band members who contributed greatly to the bands history? Would Vinnie Vincent get in with Kiss? Etc?
  9. From Rolling Stone: Metallica Want to Avoid
  10. Do you'll think G'N'R are a sure bet for 2012? Irregardless of everything that has happened post-Appetite, that album and its cultural impact should make them a no brainer for the Hall, and hopefully a full-original member reunion.
  11. I too could care less. especially about the government.
  12. Where in Central VA are you? I'm one of several Richmonders here. Welcome aboard.
  13. Pelphrey will be forever enshrined in my heart from that '92 team, and that fucking Duke game. In the hour after that game I in order: cried, ran out of my house and ran as hard as I could for 20 minutes and then told off the girl I was dating who tried to tell me it was no big deal. She's long gone, but that game is still a huge deal.
  14. Kentucky's been my team going back to my infancy. I've seen it all superstars, championships, heartbreaks, everything. But, I have never seen anyone put on a show like Jodie Meeks did last night against Tennessee. He set an all-time school record with 54 points! That includes 10 threes and a perfect 14 of 14 from the line. It was beautiful to watch. I just hope that win catapults them into the Top 25, and builds some momentum heading down the home stretch.
  15. I'm in the minority (in this thread anyway), but it's my least favorite song, on my least favorite Wilco album. It was the only time during the Residency that I left the front row to go to the bathroom.
  16. Most all of the songs have popped up on youtube, only to be pulled shortly later. but, some have been reposted again. As to be expected there is lots of love it/hate it debate going on back and forth on the Springsteen boards. Very similar to the SBS threads around here.
  17. Listened to Irma Thomas - "In Between Tears" yeasterday. Absolutely perfect! That woman has more soul on that album than I think I'll ever have in my life.
  18. "The Wrestler" has yet to arrive in Richmond, but it's coming soon. Looks like it should be pretty great. Meanwhile Golden Globes for Bruce and Rourke. Taken from Backstreets.com: THEY'RE GOLDEN: SPRINGSTEEN & ROURKE WIN FOR THE WRESTLER Last night at the Golden Globes, Bruce Springsteen and Patti Scialfa shared a table with fellow Wrestler players such as Darren Aronfsky, Evan Rachel Wood, and Mickey Rourke, and it was a big night for the film. Springsteen didn't have to wait long for his moment, as "Best Original Song" was the second award of the night, and "The Wrestler" took the ho
  19. I just watched the Ace Frehley piece on that Metal show. I get the sense that he is probably contractually not allowed to diss Paul and Gene for carrying on with new members portraying him and Peter. He skirted around a question or two on the topic. I saw him with Frehley's Comet in '88 and I must say they were far better than Kiss in that same period.
  20. I'm totally indifferent to most of his movies, but Freaks and Geeks is quite good.
  21. Lots of Springsteen news floating around out there today: A- Probable show at the Lincoln Memorial for free on the 18th! B-New tour will be 50-60 total shows, starting in late February!! C- Possible mini-sets of classic ESB albums in their entirety is being considered for the new tour!!! That last thing on the list in particular has me swimming in the possibilities. I just wonder if they'll announce in advance what will be played when, or if it will be a crapshoot. I've gotta be there for the "WIESS" night, that would be epic.
  22. Hoodoo Voodoo was played in an episode of The Wire.
  23. That's a bummer. I'll have to pull out those albums soon.
  24. I just finally squared away a place to stay in Brooklyn late last night. I'm headed up today and will be rocking the GA line and pit tomorrow. The weather forecast is 43, which isn't that bad in comparison to Chicago for the Residency. I've been building this show up in my head to epic proportions, now I'm just ready for it to begin. See you'll there, Greg
  25. What would we be without Wishful Thinking or Lets Not get Carried Away?
