  1. EXCELLENT! Go ahead and play "Flowers" in Knoxville, I dare you.
  2. I hope this is the beginning of the golden oldies section. A fairly forgotten song in the Wilco canon.
  3. A little bit of a slow builder tonight. That's to be expected after the Ben-centric episode from last week. Any theories on the guys in the van who kidnapped Miles? Were they with Ben? A third party?
  4. Just jumped in post-Lost. I'm sure that are a few others on here likewise.
  5. I'm in for Knoxville through Asheville, What a great city Asheville is. There's a million things to see and do right by the venue including a record store a few blocks away. Keep us posted for any pre or post show hangouts.
  6. Wilco did a minor league park show in Louisville awhile back and the stage was set up pretty much right on the edge of the infield facing the stands. There were about 500 seats on the field and the rest were in the stands. The area behind homeplate was very full, with the crowd gradually thinning off to the 1st and 3rd base lines, perhaps 3,000 people were there. It was a great night and a nice change of pace. I imagine the other minor league shows would have a similar set up.
  7. I loved about 60 to 70 % of the last album. I'm not one to typically provide YouTube links, but here's a pretty good one of "Frankie's Gun."
  8. Tell me when and where and I'm down. I think I got about a 6 hour drive, so I'm good around 3 or so. I may go to some of the local Record Store Day festivities. Isn't Ashes being shown somewhere in K'Ville? I thought I saw that somewhere.
  9. I was really bummed to spend nearly $20 on Drive By Trucker's "A Blessing And A Curse," on vinyl only to realize that there was no cd or download coupon inside. I mean that's an absolute joke. Needless to say I'll think twice before buying anymore of their back catalog on vinyl.
  10. Since this has turned into a KISS thread has anyone else ever felt that Ace Frehley's KISS output is superior to Gene's? For sure Gene has more song credits, but so many of his songs are album weak spots for me. Ace was probably even the strongest writer in the band from the solo albums through "The Elder." I think I've said it in some other KISS related thread somewhere, but I prefer Frehley's Comet output '86-'89 over KISS for that same period. I even saw FC in Louisville during that period and they were nowhere near as cheesy as many other bands of that era.
  11. I'm hoping that the string of shows just after the Residency last year, that were looser and more wide open will carry on this year. It serves any band well when they are sharp enough and ready to play anything in their catalog. I'm sure the next tour will be heavy on the new album and SBS out of the gate, but it'll be interesting to see what shape things take 6 months from now.
  12. Thanks for that link AMan. I can't think of anything from the 1988 hair metal world that sounds anything like "Parasite." It's got a heavy groove and great rhythm to it. I've spent a lifetime defending KISS, especially in school in the 80's when they started to go south, I guess doing so on a music-related message board is no big surprise.
  13. Just to be clear, KISS in the 70's was an altogether different band than KISS in the 80's. Their 80's output is a total joke. There are even interviews where Gene acknowledges this. But their first 6 studio albums are good rock n' roll records with loads of memorable songs. The 70's KISS is no way in the same category as Ratt, Poison, Cinderella, etc. Add me to the list on VOL IV for Sabbath. "Snowblind," is my all time favorite, as Ozzy does some real singing on that one. I have always liked "Changes" and appreciated that they had the stones to put it out at all.
  14. Hey Wendy, and everyone else, I'm in for the Knoxville, Athens, Asheville trifecta. Will be driving from Richmond which is around 6 or 7 hours, so I'm open for meetups pre or post show. Will be with two others from the board, Greg
  15. I thought it was pretty cool that Jonny Flynn was awarded Most Outstanding Player of the Big East Tournament even though Syracuse eventually fell to Louisville in the title game. You don't see that happen that often, but it was the right call. I think Louisville has the most momentum of any of the potential #1's, plus they have Pitino, who is a master in the postseason.
  16. I'll be filling out several brackets as always, but this year is going to be wild. There is no dominant team, and even the 1 seeds will be vulnerable as early as the second round.
  17. Do you'll think Syracuse has anything left for tonight? Louisville is looking closer and closer to a lock as a #1 seed.
  18. Echo! I saw bits and pieces of The Wire over the years, but never watched it all the way through until the series wrapped. It is perhaps one of the most damning critiques of power and authority in all of its incarnations as any piece of art ever. The lines between good, bad and evil are so blurred that you catch yourself rooting for characters that couldn't be further away from where you're coming from in life. The casting, down to every minor character is superb, and to second what someone already said earlier, the Omar Little character is my all-time favorite of any show. Take you're time wi
  19. Looks like Kentucky will be heading to the NIT for the first time in 30 years. I can't decide if they've been severe underachievers all year or more likely that they are right where they should be, mediocre! One way or another it's hard imagining an NCAA tournament without Kentucky, but they certainly didn't earn it and do not deserve it.
  20. VA Tech is hanging tough with North Carolina with 7 minutes to go. They desperately need this win to help with an at large bid.
  21. You're never really alone at a Wilco show. I'll be at the show in Asheville, I think row D.
