  1. Here's a great analysis on "Darkness," 30 years later. It's my favorite Springsteen album about 75% of the time. DARKNESS ON THE EDGE OF TOWN - 30 YEAR ANNIVERSARY A Map of the Future: "Darkness on the Edge of Town" at 30 By Joyce Millman Darkness On The Edge Of Town, 1978 "Here be dragons." According to legend, medieval map-makers used that phrase to signal the dangers of unexplored realms. In 1978, Bruce Springsteen drew a map and wrote "here be dragons" on it - except his warning read, "Darkness on the Edge of Town." The "darkness" haunts this album like a living, often fire-breathing
  2. Damn I'm missing the hell out of all of you'll, Rick and Lorie and Courtney and Billy and Rob and Tamala. My budget it tighter than tight right now and I'm preparing to sell my house soon, so I'll have to wait awhile to see you all, except for those of you who like My morning jacket. Send me some vibes from st. louis. take care, greg
  3. well, that was fuckin' "amazing!" Unebelievably good for SNL.
  4. sounds good, keep me posted. thanks again, greg
  5. "Raise Your Hand" to close the show is just about perfect. It, along with the "Detroit Medley" are old school show stoppers for sure. I like how at the and of the back to back full albums, which would hav ebeen pefect, he just tossed in a rarity, two insane over the top songs from the second album and an old cover favorite. Good choice. I wonder if those four were decided on the spot or not?
  6. I just checked again and I'm almost certain "Psychedelic Swamp" is unavailable. While looking around I found this at Park the Van. Enjoy
  7. If you do get your hands on said collection and would consider an old school burn for a Springsteen fanatic who is technologically inept it would be much appreciated.
  8. Now that is some great news. Hopefully Wilco will follow suit. Only if you guarentee me that it will coincide with a Cubs World Series!
  9. After a bit of sleuthing, this appears to be the only known time that "The Iceman" was ever played, and at a soundcheck at that. He dug really, really deep into the vaults for the D&D tour. I'm pretty sure he did "Zero & Blind Terry" at least once on that tour. The good news about the soundcheck for the below, it that it was taped, and several sources are listed at the end. That's a song I haven't thought about in a long while. I guess I'll give it a listen sometime soon. Good luck, Greg 17-May-2005 Philadelphia,PA Tower Theatre,USA Soundcheck included: Iceman (solo piano) / Ope
  10. That's great news. We'll have to meet up for sure. As for all of the other tour dates, looks like seeeing Wilco this summer, is now on hold.
  11. I never did get around to posting a review of the show from Charlottesville last week, but we got a healthy dose of BTR and Darkness there as well, including Meeting Across the River, Jungleland, BTR and 10th Ave in the encore. They opened with a great late 70's outtake, "Loose Ends." They also played a full band version of "For You" from Greetings, but oddly enough nothing from TWTITES, The River, or anything between 1978 and 2002 save for "No Surrender." The pacing was off, and later I found out they cut several songs from the set. The crowd was sort of lame, and maybe it weighed on the band
  12. O-MAN, Yeah I tried to purchase those tracks on the site, but being the technologically inept person that I am, I lost them somewhere and cannot recover them. Do we know if any of these recently released tracks have anything in common with the Psychedelic Swamp album that seems to be a bit of a mystery? One way or another any help at all would be appreciated. Take care, Greg
  13. Keep me posted when that forum starts up. I wanna be in the first top 10 posters. I literally live a ten minute walk from the FREE show here in Richmond. That can't come soon enough. They must be pulling a hell of a drive straigh from here to Lawrence, Kansas the following day. That will be hellish. Also not, to post out of topic here, but if anyone would be kind enough to do an old school cd burn of any of the early DD demo stuff that's floating around I would be eternally grateful thanks in advance, greg
  14. I know the guy who is playing bass for Ted Leo from back aways. He lived in Richmond when I first got here and played in some great punk bands, going back 15-20 years. He has probably never played in front of more than 500 people in his life. Now, thanks to PJ's continued good taste in opening bands, Ted Leo are playing in front of arena crowds in the 1,000's everynight. Also they took out MMJ and even the Buzzcocks before. Kudos to PJ for digging a little deeper with these superb opening acs.
  15. I think at this point, they're not really on an SBS promo tour anymore. After the residency, they are capable of playing litereally any song on any given night, and that's a good thing. Besides, the three SBS songs that were played are the three that come across the best live. Appreciate and enjoy the diversity.
  16. Here's hoping for a Raconteurs style release, say in about ten days from now, while in the middle of a tour. But seriously, I think we'll know things are legitimately close when we start hearing some new songs live.
  17. I still love Tarrantino and still beleive he will yet again release another classic someday, but he was certainly on fire with Reservoir, True Romance and Pulp Fiction. That's an incredible string of movies, all in about 3 years time.
  18. Seriously, when Jawbreaker signed to Geffen it really, really bummed me out and I knew it would doom them. I saw them in '93 and Blake railed against majors and music being a commodity, then they launched into "Boxcar" and it was all too perfect. I too like "Dear You," but somehow can't help but think that if they hadn't signed they would've put out several more albums. Along with Leatherface, my other favorite punk band of the past 20 years.
  19. To give a bit more detail on Plan-IT-X and to blow your theory to pieces. They do tiny press runs of 1,000 cds at a time. Every time they do a press run they give the bands 20% to sell on tour, etc. That's 200 cds. PIX stresses keeping the music as affordable as possible, therefore sells all of their cds postage paid for $5. That's right I said $5. If a band sells the inital 200 out of a press run quickly, the label will sell the band as many more as they need at cost. PIX is the last label in the world making money off of bands. 100% of everything goes back into releasing more records. The bo
  20. I'm about 8 hours away from showtime in Charlottesville!!!! My second show of this tour and about 15th overall. I've got GA tickets, so we stand a chance of being right up front. It's done by a random lottery on this tour. The set lists from the past week or so have been stunning. Holding out hope for "the E Street Shuffle" "Kitty's Back" and anything off of Darkness. Actually I'll be stoked to hear just about anything including most all of BITUSA. Though musically, that album may be subpar, lyrically it's so freakin' dark and heavy. "Downbound Train," "Dancing In The Dark," "BITUSA." I lived
  21. A close friend of mine put out one of their first releases on his punk label, Plan-IT-X Records. Bands he has played in played with them going back to the very beginning, and they were friends. As Against Me got bigger and bigger, they've estranged themselves quite a lot from their early community. A couple of years back, they made my friend stop repressing the cd. Being that he runs a small DIY punk label, a back catalog Against ME release could've gone a long way to afford him the availability of putting out more releases. It's pretty lame all the way around. His label also has recordings by
  22. Okay, here in Richmond. The closest tornadoes to me were about 15 miles away, albeit in a corner of the metro area that I do attend on occasion.
  23. If anybody wants to hit up the local riverboat casino while in Louisville for the show, give me a shout.
  24. Philly's up 2-1 on Detroit. Is that really happening?
