  2. Here's a cover story in today's RTD about the venue. The first list of shows is a little so so to me, but I could see attending one or two of them, Greg By MELISSA RUGGIERI TIMES-DISPATCH STAFF WRITER Though rooted in the past, The National is very much about the future. The architecturally ornate building on East Broad Street between Seventh and Eighth streets, closed since 1983, will reopen Feb. 9 as a 1,600-capacity music venue. Initial acts scheduled to perform include rockers Puddle of Mudd and Flogging Molly, classic names such as Little Feat and Willie Nelson, and'80s hitmaker Pat
  3. I've been very, very underwhelmed by the slate of shows at Toad's so far. I saw the Avett Bros and a Springsteen cover band, but that's about all I've been inclined to see. I hope the National will bring a higher quality of shows.
  4. 1. Dr. Dog - Alaska 2. Springsteen - Livin' In The Future 3. White Stripes - You Don't Know What Love Is 4. Wilco - Impossible Germany 5. Feist - I feel It All
  5. I'm curious how early people will line up outside in the middle of brutal winter weather for these shows? I know a few lunatics around here who spent a pretty excruciating day outside of the 9:30 in Dc a few winters back. What's the temp likely to be in mid-February in Chicago. 20's? Teens? Sub-Zero?
  6. I got through immediately this time, got the pass reserved, everything was going great..........until I got to the checkout page. For some reason unbeknown to me, TM would not recognize my credit card information. I had 7 fucking minutes to fill it out and even though I've used this card through them dozens of times, it would not process. It's brutal to have to resell your name and address 40 times hoping something changes, but knowing it wont. Needless to say, I had to literally watch the minutes count down and eventually they were released, due to no fault of mine. I had a minor meltdown and
  7. Wow, that was fast. I tried for the first time about 15 seconds after the hour and nothing. tried again about 50 times for good measure, nothing. Here's hoping for the best on Friday. Congrats to all that scored and good luck to all that haven't.

  9. Is it too early to start asking kind hearted Chicagoans on VC for possible places to stay? The tickets are one thing, but the prospect of spending several hundred dollars on a hotel is daunting. PM me and we can chat. Thanks in advance, Greg
  10. I think the Sox just averted Cleveland's last gasp.
  11. Hey there again everyone, sorry about the whole knocking the jerk into people part, but I was at rope's end and snapped a bit. Yeah I talked to several of you, as did my girlfriend. She left during "Walken" to talk to a security guard about the first group that we're drinking out of the flask and carrying on,a nd the security guard said that there wasn't anything that could be done about it, and that all they were there for was to keep people off of the stage. That's a pretty weird thing for security to say and furthermore, they didn't even do that as a kid jumped up on the stage and grabbed
  12. come on dude, you saw a 2 1/2 hour tour ender and 98% of your review was about the crowd? sure it sucks but that's been happening at GA shows since before we were born Yeah, it was a 2 1/2 hour show, and yeah it was good, but not great. There is a tendency for fans of any band that they love to proclaim that every show is the best show of all time. That's just not always the case. I was at the Louisville show a few weeks back and was in a seat, and much further back, but overall it was a superior show to me. I enjoyed Dr. Dog 100 to 1 over last night's opener, I liked the venue more, the vi
  13. Saw this excellent cover story/ interview while in Charlottesville for the show yesterday. Wilco was on the cover, their was a timeline/discography, the interview, a piece on Wilco gas stations and an interesting article featuring a musician from Charlottesville who opened for Wilco for a couple of weeks on the Being There tour. It was an absurd amount of press, four or five pages in all, with lots of photos. Enjoy, Greg Issue #19.42 :: 10/12/2007 - 10/18/2007 Guitar hero Introducing Wilco's musical leader, Nels Cline BY C-VILLE WEEKLY WRITERS Since the May 2007 release of Sky
  14. Just in front of a computer for the first time post show. I thought the show was a slow builder, and perhaps contained too many SBS songs for my liking but really built towards the end of the set and on through three ridiculously high-energy encores. I was right in front, just right of center stage and as is often the case with GA shos in drunken college towns, there were some Class A assholes to deal with. About midway through the main set a couple came down from out of nowhere and pushed their way right in front of those of us who had been around for hours in line and down front and really p
  15. I still have this ticket. Call me at 804-651-9345, between now and show time and I'm willing to negotiate. I've never had such a tough time selling a Wilco ticket before. Thanks, see you there, Greg
  16. Based upon many, many, many Wilco GA lines, two hours is more than enough to get a spot on the stage in most all places save for big, big cities. At the last Charlottesville show, people who showed up a half an hour in advance we're either on the front or just behind. One thing to take into consideration there, is that the conrete slopes gradually down towards the stage, and at the very front is just a bit too high for pleasurable viewing. Last time, we could've gone to the very front, but choose instead to stay about 8-10 feet back, for optimal viewing. All of that being said, I'll probably s
  17. I know these are still readily available, but I've got an extra to let go of. So, I'm willing to let it go for $30. I paid close to $40 with taxes. We can meet in advance if you're in Richmond or before the show in Charlottesville. Thanks, Greg.
  18. Did I hear that Dave Grohl will be drumming or is that just my imagination?
  19. Here's hoping for "Thundercrack," to be a long-term fixture of the tour and not a nostalgic oldie for the Asbury shows.
  20. ELO's "Do Ya," has been in a commercial or two over the years, as well asbeing covered by Ace Frehley in the late 80's.
  21. Don't hate me for saying so, and don't think that I hate Wilco for saying so, but after a few months of contemplation I think SBS is definitely my least favorite. That's not even to say that I totally dislike it. It just happens to be my sixth favorite Wilco album. As an aside, and perhaps this is another thread, do you'll think that the recent leg of the tour shows the band distancing themselves from the album somewhat already? I mean they were playing about five SBS songs a night, after it only being a few months old. Not that they're not proud of it exactly, but that perhaps they feel tha
  22. I think Being There is the best overall rock record of the past 20 years. I wish I could vote for it again.
  23. Absolutely perfect show. That was by far the most varied setlist I've ever seen at a Wilco show, and the diversity as noted was wide open. There were more songs from the 90's played than the 00's, and just as many BT tracks as SBS, that's gotta be a first. We were last row on the field and on the aisle with a great, unobstructed view. Got in plenty early to see my third Dr Dog show of the year and even though it's a tough transition for a band used to playing for 150-300 people to play in a baseball stadium they preformed solidly and continue to inspire me. Later when Jeff was giving thanks to
  24. Count me in. Driving 570 miles each way from Richmond, Va to Louisville. I'm alos from Louisville so a quick visit with the family is also in order.
