It's rather amazing that you never heard the 5.8.77 show before - it's a good one. I just had a conversation about this show last week at a jazz show.

Did you end up getting it? --- I listened to the set again after you posted --- Leo is the stand out track for me. I started to listen to the set while at work (no one was around) and finished it at home, while the kids and I were picking up the around the house. Its a great set for back ground music or sit around with head phones. I definitely miss Tyner - Alice Coltrane is okay, but she doesn't add too, too much to the music. Ali is great though and I always enjoy listening to Sanders.

I just would have wrote, 'I wonder what John McLaughlin thoughts were on Rush Limbaugh's Operation Chaos in 2008. ' - since all the linked stories are about McLaughlin --- that's all - it's all a mute point. I am guessing McLaughlin will be looking for a new line of work soon ---- probably as a FOX commentator- if he isn't one already, that is.

You should just make it to Chicago and see them both at the same stage on the same day. It just a hop, skip, and a jump from your area. (The wife and I did briefly think about taking a family trip to Pittsburgh for the Tweedy' 6/6/14 show - for some reason recently - prior to the Tweedy Pittsburgh show announcement - I have been wanting to take trip to that area)

I know the Stones stayed at Still's house in CA for a time in 69 to rehearse. They may have spent more time there during the recording of Exile, too. The below shot was taken at Still's house. I just recently read that the girl in the photo was one of Still's house maids.

Caught the CRB Mountain Jam webcast yesterday - definitely the highlight of the day. Casal is incredibly good.

I did the same thing with Manassas towards the end of last year - the Steven Still box set that came out last year piqued my interest into Manassas --- it is good stuff. My library system had it all, too (including the Stills box - which is pretty good). I had no idea that Bill Wyman was involved with Manassas.

Last night's Mountain Jam performance wasn't the best --- it seem a bit perfunctory, at times. Gregg sounded good, though. Compared to the previous nights Gov't Mule set - which I thought was so, so excellent, ABB set seemed kind of ho-hum. Also I never realized that Maurice Brown was involved with the Tedeschi Truck Band - and writing charts for the band to boot. I use to watch him play at various jazz venues and festival when he just got out of high school in the Chicagoland area. Him and Corey Wilkes were the two young gun trumpet slingers in town in the late 90's and early 2000's.

Not to pile on, but my wife mentioned it, too --- which made me laugh. Winter weight adds up, I guess....The loaded bake potato wasn't going to help matters --- luckily it had sour cream.

In addition to the above and sitting in with Ratdog, latter in the night (or I guess technically first thing at 12:30am the next morning) ---- he also had a studio session with Anthony Braxton in the afternoon. (info from the Tales from the Golden Road - a Dead XM radio show). Hopefully, the Braxton session is released, someday.

Wouldn't mind hearing your thoughts--- I haven't gotten around to grab them yet - not sure if I want to buy yet another copy of each.

It was okay -- Nels had a nice solo on the above Lovelight - but Franklin's kinda went nowhere --- thanks by the way - I didn't know anything about this show, until I saw you post about it --- only caught Sugaree on. It was kinda cool because I was able to find channel on my Roku device, so I was able to watch it on my TV, rather then the computer.

Very well could have - he only played on the two song encore -- must have been pushing 12:30am by the time he hit Ratdog stage.

This is the way I view the Grateful Dead legacy, also -- so many various eras that are completely different from each other ---- it all depends on my mood on any given day what I want to listen to. It's great that a band evolves over time and (hopefully) keeps you interested to listen to the current incarnation and have the options (via boots) to visit the past.

During my broadcast (in Chicago) they had a nice little interview with David Lemieux during a break in the movie. I happen to turn it on for about 10 minutes or so.

Listening to 6/4/78 ---- I am assuming it's Mickey on the motorcycle going into NFA --- typically Donna doesn't bother me, but she is a bit much during the NFA, even for me --- though the "all over the place levels" on the source doesn't help, though I guess it's hard to temper a women wailing into a microphone. Are captured audio webcasts typically lossy?
