  1. I think you are thinking Chris Slade who played with AC/DC -- I don't think Slade ever played with Reed, though. From what read, Robert Medici played drums on the New York tour. The only picture I can find is not very good. I wonder if the below is what will be released on the DVD - Lou Reed - New York Album - live on TV 1990 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JevqIVGPR1A
  2. I got into Bukowski in my late teens/early 20's -- I reach for him every now and then and to me he still holds up - esp. his poetry. Mockingbird Wish Me Luck is still my favorite. From his later years The Last Night of the Earth Poems is up there for me. With regards to his On Writing book - it's mostly letters and like many authors, he harps on how he thinks the current writers' writing stink. It gets old, after a while. Though they are entertaining. The Drinking one includes more stories and poems, plus letters - so it is a more enjoyable read.
  3. Its been awhile since I read 'ol Hank. Finished up the writing one and now onto the drinking one.
  4. The cassette is a nice touch.
  5. Below is the link for the drive-in-show. Kinda stinks that it is an only 18 and over show - guess they don't wan't a bunch of 16 to 18 year old showing up in their cars - would have loved to take my kids to the show, though. https://www.seetickets.us/event/Sept-18-Live-at-the-Drive-Inn-Jeff-Tweedy-Band/413640 It kinds interesting that the are listing it as the Jeff Tweedy Band.
  6. As a 8 - 10 year old - I found the show very strange.. My p's were teenagers in the 50's -- my dad especially, got a kick out it.
  7. Use to love watching Sha-Na-Na when I was a kid.
  8. 1st show was John Mellencamp in 88 - 15 years old. Still one of the the best concerts I ever been to. Mellencamp had a killer band and really knew how to command an arena. 2nd show was the next year --- the Grateful Dead at Alpine on 7/19/89 - two different ends of the spectrum --- both equally great.
  9. I listened to the High Time one - definitely a great listen.
  10. Ugh -- my kids are doing full remote with live instruction, at least for the 1st quarter. Our options were hybrid ( 2 days in school / 2 days independent study / 1 day remote with teacher) or full remote. The teachers in our district have the an option to teach fully remote or in a classroom. We had a school board meeting yesterday and it appears that community is pretty much 50/50 on remote and the hybrid. One of my kids has allergies and asthma -- during the fall, she pretty much appears to have all the symptoms of Covid-19 every morning - it would be impossible to sign her off every
  11. Thanks for the rec, looks like an interesting read ---- just put it on hold at my library -- though having a hard copy on the shelf may be more apt. It would be great if the US could get behind a requirement for every kid to take a Black History and a Black Literature class in high school (or at the very least, colleges) -- though I don't see that happening in the foreseeable future. I was history major with a minor in English ---- the Black history/literature courses I took were great and very eye-opening. Other than actually befriending members of a different race/culture -- the onl
  12. Thanks -- spent about 10 seconds looking into it an just coming up 'a type of rock' ---- a pretty interesting listen --- don't think I will revisit it often, though. Other news - the Fare Thee Well shows will be streamed (kinda crazy that it has already been five years) this Sunday. Probably will try to watch the the July 3rd show, which I thought was the best of the run. https://fans.com/
  13. Just started to listen to it now. Anybody know the meaning of 'slated' and 'not slated'? Guessing it's studio jargon. Hopefully they do the same for American Beauty.
  14. Pretty cool news: https://www.oneillinois.com/stories/2020/6/30/john-prine-posthumous-illinois-poet-laureate?fbclid=IwAR3fz_Vu5D6-pBd3h5deuHwbIjT0g15FFrRFrpTX0MxY3O0Dlyelkts1pNo
  15. That's a shame - seen him when he was in Dylan's band a bunch of times.
  16. False Prophet should be great live --- a nice way to open a show.
  17. Bit bummed that it is a 71 show and not a 70 show. At least, I will save some money... The latest Dave's Pick is definitely a great one.
  18. Guess I heard the song when they played it at Lollapalooza in 2006 - can't say I remember the tune, though.
  19. New song from the Stones - it's ok, I guess (only heard it on my crappy work computer). Dig the video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LNNPNweSbp8&src=Linkfire&lId=e90d3d01-23ca-42fb-aaeb-16fe5b27cebf&cId=3969b024-2988-11e7-9fd0-066c3e7a8751
  20. The Dead & Co canceled their summer tour and everyone who bought tickets, should automatically be getting a refund within 15 days - no action required on the ticket buyer. Hopefully this pans out -- seems like the easiest policy from a consumer perspective. I am guessing Dead & Co. people had to get involved with Ticketmaster to get this done - which I am grateful for. remphish1 -- you and your family should put on your own concerts --- my kid is taking violin - I play with along with him on my guitar (at times, much to the chagrin of the kid). Don't play anything: grab some pots an
  21. A good one, for sure. Actually there is an old short thread on the show. It's bit funny that Wonder Years was mentioned in the old thread --- I started watching that series again with my kids last week. My oldest kid about year younger than the Kevin character (from Wonder Years) when that show started - I already have been seeing some of the plot lines play out a bit in his life. Will probably wait a few years to watch Freaks and Geeks, with him - I do look forward to that. http://viachicago.org/topic/44635-freaks-and-geeks/?hl=freeks
  22. Below is the Wilner SNL tribute. https://youtu.be/_p2vIpl-nOg
  23. Yes - a good one. Loved the Lou Reed and Hal picture.
  24. That's cool. I think there is scene in the I Am Trying to Break Your Heart where Spencer is playing along on his knee to a song - think it was Heavy Metal Drummer. Though, it would have been pretty funny if you had a Richard Cole/Peter Grant type road manager who would have berated little Spencer ---- yelling 'hey little piss-ant, I don't care who your parents are - get the fuck off my drummer's set', while pointing a finger in his little chest...
  25. Definitely a sad loss --- wish I would have saw him perform.
