    UIC Chicago

Anybody know when the doors open? Thanks.
  2. Has anyone seen the Dead while the Godchaux's was still playing with them? I didn't start seeing them until 89. And unfortunately I only caught them when they came to Chicago area --- didn't even make to a Deer Creek show, which still kills me. At least I caught the last show of the '89 Alpine run (which was my first) and Brent's and Jerry's last show, but neither of their last shows were much to write home about. The first Soldier Field show was decent enough and obviously the Alpine show was great. I always had fun and enjoyed the Chicagoland shows, but I must admit I do not revisi
  3. One of my favorites from the 90's, too. However during the 90's I did not like them. I bought Bandwagonesque when it came out and wasn't a huge fan and promptly traded it for another a CD. Flash foward to 2005 or so and bought all there discs in one swoop and listened to them regularly. I guess that why I suck a these types of threads, I am always a decade behind.
  4. http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=113748932&ps=bb1 The album is streaming in the above NPR link.
  5. http://forums.viachicago.org/topic/41821-califone-all-my-friends-are-funeral-singers-mca/ Unfortunately I didn't make it. Above is from the After the Show Forum
  6. On the XM feed, the DJ's interviewed Wilson and she talked about how her next album was going to be the "first female southern rock album". It is going to be released on her own 'Redneck Records' label. She genuinely seemed surprise that 'Redneck Records' was not already taken. Anyway perhaps she will have more control of what she is putting out. Half my family members are fans, can't say I am, though.
  7. That's probably because Sunshine was in attendance...she was setting off bad vibes. Did really go to the bathroom when they started the tune????
  8. I tend to agree with the above. Donovan, from what I remember, seemed like shy kid who was in awe of Dylan. But throughout the whole film, Dylan comes of as a pompous ass...god love em. I have never gotten into Donovan, the stuff I hear on the radio seems a bit fluffy to me. I haven't delved too deep into his catalog, though.
  9. I don't think LouieB was dismissing the material. I just think he was informing Coltrane newbies that this might not be the place to start. I do like Rollins' quote, though. LouieB Posted 09 October 2009 - 05:25 PM
  10. Someone posted some of the Destroyer Studio Sessions up at Hunger City. Does anyone know if they really wore their make up in the studio? Or was this for a photo op.
  11. When I was ten years old (or so)I traded with my cousin my copies of Dynasty and Rock and Roll Over for his Rolling Stones' Big Hits (High Tide and Green Grass). I don't think I ever topped that trade. I just noticed on allmusic that Anton Fig did most of the drumming on Dynasty. And for the life of me I don't remember how Kiss's cover of 2000 Man was - I did not even remember that song being on the album. I do like this cover, though.
  12. That would be great. Only saw them once at a Lollapalooza, the year they broke up. Wished I would saw them at a club.
  13. http://www.atpfestival.com/NewsView/0910071500.php Europeans get their shot, too....
  14. I never heard about this: I am not familiar with "Work Hard, Play Harder". But isn't "Jealous Again" kinda copied off any Stones song...
  15. Someone posted photo's and a review over at iorr.org. (click on Tell Me)
  16. Did John forget to pack his plaid shirt? I thought the Wilson comment was fine. I was kinda hoping that he would say something about the whole redneck thing. It's nice to see that Tweedy still has the "rock and roll" attitude to start some shit. He did say "with all due respect"...
  17. Very nice work, Wendy. I would add Millennium Park and the Petrillo Band Shell. Also, the former location of Lounge Ax (2438 N. Lincoln Ave.), unless they completely tore down the building.
  18. Can't figure out why the link isn't working, but the gist of it is below:
  19. Well that was quick. Chicago is out of it. http://www.chicagotribune.com/chi-091002chicago-olympics-2016-eliminated,0,3121819.story
  20. Between 11:30am and noon, central time.
  21. Phil and Brent sang Keep on Growing, the Derek and the Dominoes cover. According to DeadBase they played it 4 times (3 in 85 and 1 in 86)
  22. Don't forget about his hair, too. Ugh.
  23. The state of Illinois has Blago - he just happens to live here. In the Chicago area he had less votes in the democratic primary for governor against Paul Vallas (and Roland Burris) in 2001-02. He won be getting the vote down state. Sorry for the rant, it just still bugs me. Anyway I back the bid, I am sure it is going to be rough putting on the show, but I think it will be worth it. Will there be corruption - of course. But I think it will be exciting as hell.
  24. Do you mean this guy (see below). He is on XM/Sirius. I listened to him sometimes on the way home from work. He does play a lot cool tunes. His intro ( a montage of gangster movie dialog) to his show is pretty cool, too. http://www.sirius.com/servlet/ContentServer?pagename=Sirius/Page&c=Channel&cid=1104779639688&s=person I did listen to XRT yesterday when Wilco was on. It was okay. It was pretty funny that Tweedy was stressing that there will be no surprises at the UIC shows and that one of them(Tweedy??) already forgot the name of the camel.
  25. Any suggested shows from 1976. I have only: 6/9/76 | 6/15/76 | 7/18/76 | 12/31/76.
