  1. I read the same thing. Also, Douglas Brinkley is writing a book about the period surrounding the Rolling Thunder years.
  2. I just got it today and just started disc 2. I agree with you --- I think it's a song connection for me, too. Sound wise it's great. Enjoy your first show.
  3. Somebody needs to ask Keith Richards his thoughts on the Pepper deluxe package. (har har har)
  4. Yeah - the $150 is what stinks about only having the BluRay as part of the Super Deluxe -- which is typical with these sorts of deals/reissues.
  5. I would be interested in the below - but, of course, it's only part of the super deluxe. I am assuming at some point they will sell it as a stand alone. I am happy with the mono and stereo release of this record that they put out a bit ago, as part of the box sets. They should include the mono in one of these sets, too. I don't think they ever release it on cd, as a stand alone. I could be wrong about that, though.
  6. Last week, I checked out the 4 disc version from the library. I watched a bit off the Bonus rehearsal stuff last night - it's okay. Chuck definitely plays pretty sloppy throughout. Some of the Berry/Richards interactions are pretty good - not sure how much of it was staged, though. It's was nice to see Robert Cray in the concert/footage -- always has been a fan of him since the early 80s. Actually, I have been on a huge Robert Cray kick for the past two months or so - what a voice that guy has - nice guitar chops, too.
  7. Does this mean that you think Keith didn't do good job with movie.
  8. Yeah - and I missed it. Decided to take the kids on the quick spring break trip - booked it - and then remembered I had Son Volt tickets. Oh well ---- like my brother (who i was going to go with - a dad of three) said when I called him up to tell he him that I booked a trip with the family ---- 'why the hell did we have kids'. It was a great trip, though. Hopefully a boot pops up.
  9. Kinda surprised to see Rockford, IL on the list. I don't think they ever played Rockford, before.
  10. Yeah - the double JGB CD was my intro JGB - my parents bought it for me for Christmas when it came out. I don't think I even had any JGB boots at the time, so it was all very new to me. I remember thinking how different it sounded from the Dead.
  11. If I knew about the below - I forgot about it. Pretty funny. from Robbie Robertson via Rolling Stone
  12. Hey Lou, let me know if the below happens tonight, too. Enjoy the show. Been a long while since I seen Tortoise play.
  13. It's a good one, for sure. I have never gotten around to collect much JGB stuff past 78, so I don't have much to compare it to. The double JGB cd release is my gold standard for the later stuff and this release is just a touch below it.
  14. Yeah - the Stones were my intro to Berry, too. Ya-Ya's is perfect example. Little Queenie is another favorite of mine. One of the first songs I learned on guitar was Down the Road a Piece -- I know Chuck didn't write it, but he covered it and I am assuming the Stones were more familiar with his cover than the original. Great intro guitar lick. Ian Stewart was another reason why the Stones were best at covering Chuck's tunes - esp on Down the Road a Piece and on Ya-Ya's.
  15. Same here - the letter writing/phone calling bit --- got to admit, though, out of all this crap, Gorsuch seems like a solid pick -- I definitely don't agree with many of his past judgements or his judicial point of view - but he is definitely qualified. This whole crap that the R's did with Garland is beyond reproach, I don't want the D's to repeat. The Court needs to stay above this political crap. Once it goes - we all go.
  16. Yep - looks a great set.
  17. PanicStream just uploaded a Chuck show from 6/6/86 - a Chicago Blues Fest show. Keith sat in. What a line up for the fest. Chicago really use to know how to throw down back in the day.
  18. POTUS (XM Radio - reliable) said that Napolitano has been 'benched' by FOX. The regime will replace him with someone else, soon enough.
  19. I came across the below in my library system - not as good as the Stones one, but really good stuff. Otis Clay's version of Wonderful Tonight is top notch - always have been a sucker for the tune. Layla is another interesting stand out. The cd is worth searching out 1. Miss You - Larry McCray 2. Blues Power - Koko Taylor 3. Wonderful Tonight - Otis Clay 4. Lay Down Sally - Carl Weathersby 5. Strange Brew - Buddy Guy 6. Before You Accuse Me - Bo Diddley 7. Roll It Over - Joe Louis Walker 8. Crossroads - Honeyboy Edwards 9. Old Love - Otis Rush 10. Too Bad - Pinetop Perkins 1
  20. I always thought the Beatles made Chuck's songs sound like bubble gum music - maybe, because of their choice of Berry' tunes that they chose to cover. I give you that Stones' version of Come On was very lacking.
  21. Hail, Hail is a great doc - Keith was giving it to Chuck and Chuck definitely gave it to Keith. Been at Chuck's St. Louis place a half dozen times, but never saw him play. Great, great songwriter.
  22. Getting back to the 3.16.94 - we did chant 'turn it up' after the 1st or 2nd song, correct? I think this run was Cutler's first shows doing the front of house sound.
