Hopefully all you Texans are out of harms way, my wife's aunt lives in the Dallas area, luckily it missed her immediate area. Just got back from Southern IL --- shit ton of flooding going on down there. The Mississippi River area by my in-laws, may surpass the flood of 93. Some of my in-laws work at Menard Penitentiary - they are in process of deciding if they have to move the convicts up to higher ground. The current sleet up here in Chicago seems pale in comparison.

The director is currently on Fresh Air.

I suppose it could be security reasons -- don't know. Amazing that this gets any pub. -- but I guess everything is important and pressing in Presidential politics.

I agree -- the first 12 years with the wife was a blast, lot's of traveling, concerts, etc --- it's just has been a different kind of blast the last 6.

Nice little laid back benefit show from 12/23/70 -- a kind of unique rendition of Deep Elem Blues. https://archive.org/details/gd1970-12-23.132343.sbd.miller.flac16

Having a kindergartner at home - some days, I would love to go off on tour ---- of course I would probably end up bringing him along - -- the three year old can definitely stay home with mom, though. I'm 43 - can't imagine having young kid's while I am in my 60s. It is weird that when bands get inducted to this place, that often it brings out all the animosity among various band members. They all seem to take it so seriously. I blame Mike Love for setting the negative vibe on the Hall.

I watched an hour of it. Sanders needs to get better if he wants a chance against Clinton ---- I don't think he has it in him. Obama was able to go after Clinton --- in a somewhat nice way -- and make it stick. Sanders is almost too nice. There is a big difference between the two (Sanders and Clinton)- but as of now, each has their kid gloves on. Clinton of course will pounce at a moments notice - I am not sure if Sanders has it in him ---- like Obama did. Of course I think they are both waiting for the Republican's to thin the herd ---- then they will go after each other. Sanders needs to s

Just got Bare Trees from the library and listened to it for the 1st time today. It is a good one - bit of "pop" to it, too (like the later self title record and Rumors).
-
Same here --- that 4/71 Filmore run is one my favorites ---- if hard pressed, I would say that Ladies and Gentleman set is my favorite official release. Listening to the run, you can tell that they were enjoying their stay in the city.

That's cause you listened to too much Steve Miller - you joker, you.

But, from a "rock and roll hall of fame" perspective all above groups are worthy, no? (every year we go down this rabbit hole) I would want the Cure to get in before the Smiths.
-
I think that's a prerequisite on getting into the Hall -- if people are sick of their tunes - they are a shoo-in.

That's not a bad group of inductees. Every now and then I throw on Deep Purple box set on shuffle and listen to it on Sunday mornings in my kitchen while I read the paper and drink coffee - until my wife gets up and makes me turn it off. Yesterday on XM, I heard a reworked version by Miller of Fly Like an Eagle - wasnt a big fan of it. His greatest hits tape was pretty much the soundtrack to my high school party experience - it was played at every one.

When I was a kid, I had a pair of cut-offs that the bottom of the front pockets hung out past the front of cut-off jeans --- Weir would have loved em.
-
Maybe if the Dead & Co tour in the summer, Mayer can bring back the Weir short shorts look...

Regarding the Dylan doc -- Dylan's own manager was the one giving the interview (and coming up with the questions). So in essence, Dylan and his own people came up with the narrative.

With sandals on. Regarding Mickey's ranch -- that has been one of the coolers things in the last couple of new Dead books - the descriptions and tales from the various ranch's that the various band members lived on during the 60's and early part of 70's. Lot's of new 1st hand accounts. I guess during the early 70's, Mickey's ranch wasn't the best place to be - due to the drug scene and the people hanging out there.

That's why Rand Paul hasn't gotten any traction.
-
Yeah -- but the article it dated May, 2015 -- the Weir doc was already shot and in the can at that point. But I bet Weir is seats under oak trees all the time.

Yeah, you are right - I must have mis-heard. "No plans for Scorsese to film Grateful Dead documentary in Chicago" http://www.chicagotribune.com/entertainment/music/chi-grateful-dead-scorsese-doc-column.html Below is a link that I just came across regarding the movie -- it's nice that Justin Kreutzmann is involved, too - I didn' know that or forgot. http://michaelshapiro.net/grateful-dead-documentary-north-bay-has-starring-role/
-
I think they wanted to shoot some footage of the 50th Anv. shows in case they wanted it for the doc.

From the panel, Rand Paul always comes across the most sane person --- which is super scary. Christie seemed a bit unhinged to me, especially about the whole Russian no fly zone stuff. Everybody, with exception of Paul, stated that they wanted to increase and update the military - but I don't recall anybody talking about how to pay for it -- must admit I stopped watching. It would be interesting to have Sanders win and then he appoints Paul as Sect. of Defense --- I'd keep him out of domestic stuff, but I wouldn't mind him dealing with foreign relations with regard to war, not the humanitari

That is weird -- especially one based on Parish's book. Guess it be could worse - it could be based on Rock Scully's book. Both books seem to be most tabloid-like books on the Dead -- -which I guess would make the best 'dumb entertainment' type of movie. A great documentary on the Dead gear would be nice. Parish is pretty good in front of the camera though. I wonder if it is going to be shot like a documentary or one of 'music-bio movies' where actors are playing the musicians?

I didn't follow any of the 90 reunion stuff too close --- only recently did I realize that Porl Thompson was part of their band -- guess Plant was listening to the Cure a lot prior to the tour. Interesting choice, though I am a Cure fan. The below Song Remains the Same is pretty decent. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mBAewzK4EC8
