  1. The Fillmore and the Brothers both sound great - hoping the Idlewild does too. I bought the blu-ray of the Fillmore and the HD files of the Brothers and Sisters set. I don't usually buy HD track files, but it was much cheaper do so - it does sound good. Disc 3 and 4 is the September 26, 1973 show from Winterland -- I don't have much live stuff from this era, so it nice to listen to.
  2. I guess I always thought Duane's death caused the aftermath excesses, esp Oakley's --- but they all were all pretty f'd up before his death. Duane, if he didn't die, probably would have joined in with the mess eventually - though Butch said he was good at quitting stuff if it got out of hand...who knows. Just glad that the Allman Brothers continued on after he died. Listened to the Brothers and Sisters box set last night.
  3. Yeah - I read that book, too --- I read the Skydog book first, so i already knew what Duane was "like" --- still though, it always surprises me reading such stories about him. Which is weird - because I expect to read such things about musicians, but I guess just not about him.
  4. I forgot how I came upon it -- I think i typed in the Allman Brothers and hit Prime button and it was the 1st one posted. Reading the Rolling Stone interview with Butch brought up the whole drug thing and Duane again -- for some reason, prior to reading the Skydog - I never figured him being into such things - don't know why I figured that - I knew about all the band's excesses after he died.
  5. see if the below works http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01B7AQQKY?keywords=allman%20brothers&qid=1457828402&ref_=sr_1_3&refinements=p_85%3A2470955011&rps=1&s=music&sr=1-3
  6. Amazon has the Live from A&R Studios for $12.98 -- seems like decent enough of price, just pre-ordered it. I thought I had boot copy of this on my hard drive, but I don't.
  7. Can't resist. Lucky Man Homer https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m8Kjz51rHw0 Always enjoyed Lucky Man. Just read that Lake wrote the tune when he 12 - that's pretty cool.
  8. Trump had a rally at UIC --- pretty much in the heart of downtown Chicago. Does anybody really think Trump didn't see this protest coming? (and was hoping for it) Perfect coverage for his campaign --- he had the entire evening to personally talk to every national cable news outlet. Bravo!
  9. Hopefully the city sends Trump the bill for today's rally.
  10. Crap - I was hoping you (Chez) were going to say it sucked and sounded horrible --- glad it didn't, though! Thanks for the review. It would have been cool to see The Rock and Amazing Journey/Sparks.
  11. I don't recall Trump ever going after Carson or vice versa (not that either of them really needed to) -- both 'outside Washington DC' guys, too.
  12. How was the show? (feel free to post in the Who thread -- if you want)
  13. That's great --- just listened to it last night. I may be in the minority, but this version of the Byrds (as a four piece with White) is by far my favorite. The version of Eight Miles High on the Royal Albert release is great -- the bass solo is a lot of fun. Just noticed that Jacques Levy worked with McGuinn prior to Dylan and that Roger introduced Levy to Dylan. Also they covered a Jackson Browne song at the show, too. How did you manage to catch the show -- did you spend a semester studying abroad or did you do the whole hippie backpacking across Europe thing?
  14. I just ordered the 3 cd/1 Blu-ray edition of the Idlewild South this morning, via Amazon. Have been holding off, hoping for my library system to get it - but no dice yet, so I figured they never will.
  15. Ultimate Classic Rock agrees -- America's Holiday ranks No. #4 http://ultimateclassicrock.com/george-martin-non-beatles-records/
  16. Well that's good about the Houston show --- just seems so crazy - the suddenness of it all. Read that his auto racing didn't help, either.
  17. Other than some of his work the Beatles, his production of Jeff Beck's Blow by Blow and Wired were my favorites of his. They both sound great.
  18. Did you think Johnson sounded off at all?
  19. Listening to this today -- Don't think I ever heard it before -- great set list for the 1st set and pretty well played through out. I really like the early West LA's -- the early Touch of Grey's always seemed rushed.
  20. I enjoy Modern Times, too - more so than Tempest and Together Through Life. I think Tempest bores me more than Together Through Life, probably because it is a longer record.
  21. Can't imagine who would want to go see them play with another singer --- Malcolm, Johnson, and Rudd all out.
  22. The first West LA Fadeaway was pretty great -- lyrics were a bit different. They debuted Day Job on the same night (8-28-82) - a nice peppy version of Day Job.
  23. I think Dylan still has an all-original new record in him - maybe two. (Maybe it's wishful thinking on my part, though.)
  24. Wouldn't mind seeing a Dylan and Staples show --- maybe Dylan will loosen up a bit and they will share the stage at some point. Would be better if it was his own new material, but I will probably end buying it, anyway.
