  1. Rider - check out 6/28/92. Fantastic first set! Second ain't shabby either.
  2. Yep. Although post-hiatus Phish isn't usually my first choice when pulling cds to listen to there are moments that are very good (see 7/29/03 esp). Not unlike the GD there are many distinct periods of history to discover. Those 'ambient jams' of the last 10 years didn't sit too well with me when I was at a show, but they hold up much better when I'm just laid back on the couch at home.
  3. You folks are gonna have so much fun - wish I could be there. Oh well, at least I HAVE got my friends that I jam with to do a number of Wilco tunes (HS Drugs, VC, Cali Stars etc). Good times!
  4. Hey man, I make sacrifices so I can drink good beer. Kool-Aid and peanut butter and jelly sammiches during the day, Sierra Nevadas or Red Hook IPAs at night. You have to have your priorities in line.
  5. Phish - 8/13/93 Murat Theatre, Indianapolis IN SBD
  6. Shall we go, you and I, while we can? Have a great day man!
  7. Oh hell yeah. That imitation of Freddie's "heyyy-yeay-yeay-yeah-eee-yeah" bit just made me laugh hysterically. Still does.
  8. That might be precisely the point. There's been so much yakking about how unfair and attack-dog the media has been lately that folks had the idea that she was gonna really go shit up - who doesn't want to see implosion? Well, it didn't happen. Thankfully, really, in hindsight.
  9. This is a high quality post. I don't think I'd disagree with nearly anything you said here. I myself was what you would call a 'picky deadhead' I guess. I can't tell you how many times I'd walk out of a show thinking "wow, that was really lackluster" and I'd run into someone who was a true believer and I'd have to argue with them (devil's advocate complex). The old adage still rings true however (for both the GD and Phish): the tapes don't lie - if you're talking about something that has to last 'outside the moment' there are obvious high points and low ones for both bands. Sadly, I think I
  10. Nice post, Eric. Especially that last sentence. Here's my take, for what it's worth: Palin did ok, she was successful in one area - she didn't totally flop out, so those in the republican base who were getting squeamish about her are probably placated now. For me the "aw-shucks" demeanor grew old real quick. As did the retreating to talking points instead of just answering the question. Solid B. Biden: please tell me if anyone here doesn't think that Barack made a good choice for his VP pick. As Donna said, he came across as smart and dignified. I think he did nearly everything the Obama c
  11. True story: in '03 or '04 I saw Project/Object (w/ Ike Willis, Napoleon Murphy Brock etc). Don Preston was on keys for that tour. They did many tunes from WOIIFTM. When they did "Let's Make The Water Turn Black" they had one of Indy's most notorious transvestite entertainers get up and sing the song in full 'regalia'. One of the most bizarre concert moments ever for me.
  12. http://www.politico.com/news/stories/1008/14170.html By "in the past" does he mean "in the last 4 weeks"? Christ, that's just about the dumbest thing I've heard yet - kinda like "I didn't inhale".
  13. Mr. H I'll keep bumping this thing. Even though the musicianship progressed significantly during the '70s I still have the soft spot for those first 5 years (Mothers) era. Weasels Ripped My Flesh is a favorite - one of the most far out records you can find in the Rock bin at your local teenage record store. The things FZ was doing with (backward/forward) tape loops on Weasels and WOIIFTM seems miles ahead of even what the Fabs were doing at the time.
  14. I've said this here before many times (probably too many ) but I couldn't be happier that Joe is Barack's VP.
  15. A legitimate concern, too. That first run of shows post-hiatus (winter '03) showed me the problems that were obvious in the late '90s had not been properly dealt with. To each his own and all, but the music suffered - and that was the sad thing. I hope like hell that mucho practice time is put in because when they are truly ON there is few bands that can touch these guys in the live setting.
  16. I KNEW I should have taken Thursday off. Oh well, screw it, I'll tape the sucker and practice the game after the fact - late night drinkin'.
  17. Regarding tonight's "bailout" legislation: a resounding 74-25 yea. From what I gather this "new" bill is actually worse than the one that failed in the House - it's now laden with sweeteners that the Senate republicans found appealing enough to make this thing look like a truly bipartisan bill. After the vote some of the boys went on the tube. They seemed a bit too self-congratulatory for me. It was a bit surreal to see Dodd and Gregg praising each other, but this was a hard sell to both the people and the House that this thing is absolutely necessary. We shall see if public opinion and th
  18. I haven't got the discs yet, or even a shipping confirmation. I guess I'd better get on the phone tomorrow!
  19. Well put. I think if you criticized all the musicians in the world for their drug habits, there'd be no time left to enjoy the wonderful music they make! And we're glad glad glad that they're alive And we're glad glad glad that they'll arrive And we're glad glad glad glad Glad glad glad And we're glad glad glad that they're a-glide
  20. Hope your day was the bestest of birthdays!
  21. Wow. Just wow. I simply cannot believe that it is entirely possible that even I am more qualified to be VP than this woman.
  22. "Of course I'll introduce you to Warren"
  23. Happy Birthday Big Red!!! 44 years old today.
