  1. "I knew you'd be surprised!" "You'll LOVE it...it's a way of life" "He used to be a nice boy - he used to cut the grass" "It can't happen here" I could go on...
  2. I don't know about 'definitive', but '77 has many fine versions. DP #3 has a really good one that seamlessly slides into the closing section of Terrapin - I would say it's a must hear.
  3. Nice call. I'm not gonna go wade back through the thread but I was just gonna post Positively 4th Street.
  4. Well...he's had a lot of rock bands tell him "don't use our song on your campaign". Maybe AC/DC would let him use "Shot Down In Flames". I think Norbs is right - this thing will be hammered out soon (I hope).
  5. I don't care who's to blame for the bill not getting passed - dammit the time has come to step up to the plate and DO SOMETHING - if I were 65 and was using the stock market as a way to support a fixed income I'd be hysterical right now. I don't even want to call my folks right now.
  6. I must second MrRain and say this is really a wonderful and eloquent post. Sweetheart, thank you.
  7. Yeah. I think in that other FZ thread I might have mentioned Black Napkins being perhaps my fave Frank soloing - it's just an intense song.
  8. I completely understand what you're saying here man. What, exactly is "victory"? To me, it seems like we never learned the major lesson of Vietnam, and that is "you cannot break the will of the people". We can tear down, we can build back up, but as long as there's one person with a handful of dynamite willing to go into a crowded area and blow things up the war on terror will never truly be won. So what's the choice here? Kill every single person in the country? Of course not. Hey - I'm as clueless as anyone else about how to end this damn thing. It just seems to be a no-win situation.
  9. When I just logged in and saw that banner I got a bit choked up. A very sweet thing to do. No other board I frequent has this sense of family. And...I LOVE that pic of Evonne, Nat and Ben. Looks like Ben and Nat are well on the way to drinking MsY under the table.
  10. 9/27/72 - Stanley Theatre, Jersey City NJ I: Morning Dew, BIODTL, FOTD, Black-Throated Wind, Tennessee Jed, Mexicali Blues, Bird Song, Big River, Brokedown Palace, China > Rider, Playin' II: He's Gone, Me & My Uncle, Deal, Greatest, Ramble On Rose, Dark Star > Cumberland, Attics, Promised, UJB, Casey Jones E:Around The reviewer in the Compendium (Robert Goetz) calls this show "one of their best ever", and it's easy to see why. From the Phil-bomb laden Dew opener to the very trippy Playin' closer this is one of the best first sets around. Special mention to the mid-set Bird So
  11. Barton Hall? Have a good time girl!
  12. America has GOT to get this financial crisis resolved pronto! I need to refinance my house so I can buy tickets.
  13. One of my first as well. I always return to this show - it's just so good - certainly a top 10 for me.
  14. Nice! And thanks for reminding me - I'm gonna go put the Boilermaker toilet paper on the spool right now!
  15. Thanks for starting this thread. I was gonna do the same after I go to see it next week. It's gonna be good - but I'm an unabashed Maher fan so you can take that with a grain of salt.
  16. After watching umpteen stump speeches by both guys I can say I heard nothing new last night. I thought JM did ok, but my expectations were pretty low given his talks the last 12 days.
  17. I never got to meet Natalie in person, but I do feel that I knew her. She seemed to have a razor-sharp wit that i always found refreshing. And...Rufus T. Firefly as a patron saint? I could not agree more.
  18. I thought for the most part this came out a draw - but just the fact that the focus was foriegn policy (definitely McCain's supposed turf) and Obama didn't get smoked (at ALL) is a very good sign for Barack. Both guys were able to repeat their mantra enough times to get the point across - Barack: McCain=W, and McCain: Obama=naive. Right or wrong, this is how this thing is being framed imo. Barack seemed to have the edge in regards to the economy, and John seemed to have a somewhat smaller edge with the foriegn policy. This isn't necessarily how I saw it, but how I would think it might play w
  19. Damn, Jules. I'm awfully sorry man - a van can be replaced, but stealing one's canine companion is an unforgivable sin. I hope everything works out and those bastards get their due.
  20. That big wheel spins The hair thins...people forget ..but not you, sir. We won't forget you. Happy Freaking Birthday! And don't oversmoke!
  21. Marsha Blackburn. From Tennessee, right? Dear God - sub one cheerleader for another.
  22. I've heard Schultz a number of times. He seems like a very straightforward dude.
  23. I seem to recognize your face Haunting, familiar, yet I can't seem to place it Cannot find the candle of thought to light your name Lifetimes are catching up with me All these changes taking place I wish I'd seen the place But no one's ever taken me there Hearts and thoughts they fade, fade away Hearts and thoughts they fade, fade away I swear I recognize your breath Memories, like footprints, are slowly raising Me, you wouldn't recall, for I'm not my father It's hard when you're stuck upon the shelf I changed by not changing at all Small town predicts my fate Perhaps that's what no on
