  1. Man, do I ever love that record. It has some of Bob's best guitar work for sure. Plus, I don't think there's a song on there I don't like. Anyway - I know you like that one Mende for the last tune on the record.
  2. Well, I've told this one before but - potty training: rub their nose in it and then a spank to the bum. Hey, it worked for the dogs! My youngest was using the toilet at 2 months.
  3. I do so many stupid things every day there's no way to begin to tell about them.
  4. That "Believe It Or Not" was a first timer too, I think. Only played a half-dozen or so times. Sort of a combination of the JGB's "Gomorrah" and the GD's "Roses". Very nice tune - at the end when Jerry kept singing over and over "let me show how much I love you" the place went nuts. I think he talks about the reaction to that song in one of the books I have here, and how astonished he was by our reaction, so I always have found it perplexing why it never stayed in the rotation. We got a lot of Bird Songs during that period. They were really playing that song well post-coma, and it was the
  5. 20 years ago this week - the Dead at Alpine Valley. 6/19, 20, 22 and 23. The longest run they ever did at Alpine. Dylan did a show on 6/18 there, so we were there almost a whole week. Yikes. When we arrived there had not been a drop of rain in the area for 65 days. The grass on the little airstrip adjacent to the venue looked and felt like hay - it crunched under your feet when you walked on it. And I'm sure you all remember the heat in the Summer of '88 - it was well into the '90s every day. We bought a tarp on the way up there and ended up stretching it between our van and the truck of our
  6. Grateful Dead - Alpine Valley Music Theatre, East Troy WI 6/20/88 AUD
  7. Yeah, until they're teenagers. Then they say "wow mom/dad, you're really a bitch/dick".
  8. I prefer to think it was "blessed are the freaks", but that's just me.
  9. I'm assuming you mean you can't talk about your 'condition' when you saw the movie. It's ok man - the statute of limitations have ran out by now. I enjoyed that film. But I was in an extremely altered state at the time (early '80s).
  10. Mende, I'm so very sorry man. Please take care, and remember the good times.
  11. Good to hear your hooked! As far as recommendations go - the 1983 LP "Infidels" is one of my 5 favorite Dylan LPs. Not one bad song on there. Jokerman is a major work imo.
  12. Thanks for the news Aman. Today marks the anniversary of Phish's first show at Deer Creek (6/19/95). One of the best shows I ever saw them do - maybe even THE best. The vocal jam in YEM was just unreal. It was so reminiscent of the Mothers' "Weasels Ripped My Flesh" record - I was definitely hooked for life by this point! I saw the GD for the final time 2 weeks later at the same venue. There was no argument by this time - Phish had taken over.
  13. I've seen the Rev. Barry Lynn speak on separation issues before and he is one very smart guy.
  14. Yeah. I don't care who you are that was pretty riveting stuff.
  15. Hey Rev - I know I live out in the sticks, but I don't live THAT far out. I mean, sheep? Really?
  16. Truer words have never been spoken. You sir are wise beyond your years.
  17. "Beltmann isn't everything, he's the only thing". Vince Lombardi said that. Have a great day Eric!
  18. One of my old friends has a kid who just graduated from elementary school (5th grade). He's a big baseball fan and collects cards so I recently gave him a shoebox full of cards I still had lying around here as a present. I hadn't looked at these things since I moved away from my folks' house. Mostly '69 - '74 stuff. Most of the players from the Orioles and A's super teams from that time were in there. Plus a few of the "3D" cards you used to get from a cereal box (Sugar Crisp?). Interesting trip down memory lane for me.
  19. Imo that band (during '01, anyway) was the best band in the land. I saw them with SCI opening and it was one the top 20 shows I've ever seen.
  20. It's a Beautiful Day - s/t One of the great San Francisco records.
  21. Poca says thanks WW and we hope things continue to go well for you.
  22. Congrats man - I know you'll excel in Beantown. I'll miss our late night brandy sessions. Your Pal, Jim
  23. Don't forget your zircon-encrusted tweezers!
