  1. Absolutely. Most people never get past the 'phenomenon' with the fans and all that. If you can expose someone to the music without telling them the name of the band (with all of its preconceived notions) quite often they will appreciate what they're hearing. Not always though. It can be pretty dense stuff at times. I think the media didn't help things. Wherever the band played (esp. the last 15 years) without fail the local newspapers, TV etc stories would always lead with that percentage of fans that looked to have been stuck in a sort of Haight-Ashbury diorama. So much easier than actually
  2. 15 years ago today: Oakland Coliseum Arena, Oakland CA I: Cold Rain, Wang Dang Doodle, Loser, Memphis Blues Again, Broken Arrow, Way To Go, Johnny B. Goode II: Aiko, Corrina, Lazy River Road > Playin' > Drums > Space** > Other One* > Stella Blue* > Lovelight* E:Brokedown* *with Ornette Coleman ** also with Graham Wiggins on didgeridoo Ornette Coleman opened. Jerry played on the last song of his set. First "Broken Arrow". Mardi Gras Parade during "Aiko". From Playin' on this obviously gets very interesting. The jam from Playin' into the drums is very odd and has
  3. Six Summerteeth tunes in one show. I should look back and see how long it's been since that happened (minus the last week possibly).
  4. I've gotta say here that I've seen Michelle speak at length now a few times and I just completely fell in love with her. Barack certainly made the right decision when it came to choosing a partner-for-life. In other news, no one has commented on the debate tonight? I didn't listen to the experts afterwards but I thought HRC was pretty on the money most of the time - "Xerox" comment be damned. I think it was pretty close but Hill by a nose. It'll be interesting to see if Barack's momentum can be halted.
  5. Good call man. I'd normally never listen to a tune like that but that one always gets me for some reason. Sir P is a master of doing that for me.
  6. The Fool (Curnin / West-Oram / Woods / Greenall / Barrett) A sort of place you don't often find A quiet room to go out of your mind Will you excuse me whilst I confide I've found a place where I can hide Lights out by nine as a rule One grey blanket, and a stool Angels fear to tread where stands the Fool But the air is warm, and the walls are cool So I'm kept away, so here I'll stay Even the judges kneel and pray I am the winner in any event SNAP! Who was the man who said society's bent? So I'm locked away in my padded cocoon A square of hell where nightmares bloom Armageddon couldn't come t
  7. Mr. Latchkey I'm very very proud of you man. you done good.
  8. I've been listening to "Echoes" for 30+ years and I've never been bored with it. NP: Phish - Roxy Theatre, Atlanta GA 2/20/93 SBD
  9. No love for the NRPS? SF hippies doin straight-up truck drivin' country - I think that's pretty alt, man.
  10. Congratulations, Eric and Stacy! I think it is cool that Keaton was born on Wisconsin primary day - maybe he'll have a political streak!
  11. I watched that speech. I thought it was fine.
  12. Just a head's up: 3/8 will mark the 35th anniversary of the day Pigpen passed on. Play it with some feelin'.
  13. I'm still holding out for a revival of that one my friend. On a serious note though - I really hope that what has transpired this last few days is a new beginning for this band and their fans. It wasn't long ago when there were discussions about setlists and how they could change the Wilco experience into something truly spectacular. Not that they weren't amazing beforehand but the uncertainty of what MIGHT be played goes a long way to bringing fans back again and again. It really seems like a win/win all the way around to me.
  14. The hard thing for me to comprehend is just 6 weeks ago there were approximately 15 people running for President and now, for all intensive purposes, there are 3. I didn't see that coming so quickly. Just a short while ago it looked as if the Republicans might have a brokered convention - that's over and done with. Johnny is either gonna save the White House or be a sacrificial offering while the party gears up for a serious challenge in '12. Barack seems to have some mojo going on right now but I would not count HRC out of this at all. The number of possibilities here are staggering - yo
  15. Don't forget "James Alley Blues". That one used to get played a lot.
  16. I have yet to meet the aforementioned Mrs. Smoke, but that day will come and it will certainly be A Day That Will Live In Infamy.
  17. Mike I hope you have a GREAT time! Cody is one of my favorites in that genre (sort of a '70's alt-country, if you will). And playing Mexicali Blues as well! Very very cool man. I hope you blow folks away and they ask you back to open for NRPS sometime. That would be the BEST.
  18. Slick Willie, baby. Sooie would attest to the Arkansan appetite for chili, plus we can assume from previous comments by HRC that she's not one for puttering around in the kitchen. I totally envision him crafting some mind-blowing improvised recipe, complete with an apron that says "Kiss The Cook".
  19. That's one wise lady right there. If you don't mind I'm gonna use that one.
