  1. The Fat Tire has an after-taste I don't much care for, though it is a tasty beer. New Belgium has other beers I appreciate better because of this. But again, Fat Tire is definitely a tasty beer. I saw Dog Fish Head beer in a liquor store last week and it was selling for $10.99/6-pack. As much as I want to try it, I couldn't do it for that price.
  2. Set her up with a high quality fake I.D. and she'll love you even more.
  3. BINGO!! Just what I'd hoped for: Fillmore one night Red Rocks another. No Warren, but.... Look at those 9 (12) shows in NY, too. Nokia Theater, huh?
  4. You mentioned Hokies so I'll assume he/she's going to Virgina Tech. I went to Roanoke up the road and I'll assume it still gets unbearably hot in the late spring/summer, so: an air conditioner would be great. Though the kids these days probably have air conditioning in the dorms, eh? And she/he probably won't be forced to attend summer school because of their shitty grades the first coupla years. And their knickers probably aren't made out of wool anymore. I bet they've got them new non-wool knickers.
  5. It's been a while since my college days but I'd send a typewriter. I had one of those new-fangled electric ones when I went and it helped speed the process of typing papers. And money. Not lots of money, but a monthly stipend for beer and pizza.
  6. Since Country Joe's "I-Feel-Like-I'm-Fixin'-To-Die" didn't even make the cut, I'll say the greatest protest song ever goes to: Beastie Boys: "Fight For Your Right" Protesting against: Living at home under the oppression of mom and dad.
  7. It really is a fantastic album. I've been listening to it a lot the last two months. "Draw A Circle in the Sand" in particular is an incredible tune. Good for her.
  8. Why is Sigourney Weaver wearing a helmet?
  9. She either just played or will be playing the Fillmore in Denver soon. I'm not all over it.
  10. Bukowski collaborated on/wrote the screenplay for the movie and was generally pleased with it. I think O'Rourke did an excellent job in the role. Not emoted and a fine balance between brilliance and outcast. True to form. One of my favorite flicks .
  11. I didn't see this anywhere so I'll post it in here as it's recent and I didn't want to clog up the board with yet another thread. This is a piece/interview with Tweedy from jambase.com, an on-line dedicated to not only jam bands, but good bands: http://www.jambase.com/headsup.asp?storyID=10974
  12. I'm kinda in this boat. I always get a sense of antique-y Vauldeville images when I listen to a lot of their stuff. I don't get the "try listening to______ and if you still don't get it..." stuff, either. I'm not so sure there's a lot to "get." You either like it or you don't.
  13. I'll get behind "Get Behind Me Satan" as a good place to start with WS. It's the one I consistently go back to when in the mood for some WS. A very good album.
  14. DSO is a fun time. They do a very admirable job of covering whole shows. They'll toss in some bonus stuff at the end of the show, too. They're not like "Beatlemania" so much but tune-wise they sound close. They've had a few line up changes in the past. I've seen shows when they've had "Keith" with the baby grand piano and "Brent" and "Pig" shows as well. Their keyboard guy passed away a little over a year ago, so yeah, they're pretty authentic down to the requirements of playing in the "hot seat" even. The thing with DSO these days is they charge $25 and upward for most shows. I'm not sa
  15. That's mine, as well. I did this a few weeks ago. Maybe it's gone up since then. But remember, isn't the better money paid for the more messed up cadaver? I mean, they're for research purposes.
  16. But I think a reasonable outlook is that it wasn't/isn't okay for any player to be using steroids, regardless of the "era" as they've been banned since the early 90s. Exempting Bonds because steroid use was wide-spread doesn't jibe with me. Not every player was juiced. There's no evidence that most players were juiced, either. I don't think it's a matter of acknowledging the era he played in when it's boiled down. No one knows how many HRs Bonds would have had/have had he not juiced. Nerdy can bust out all sorts of pythagorean theories/stats whatever but no one knows. The assumption is vali
  17. I disagree that all cheating is equal. It's not. There are degrees of cheating. I don't think anyone is heaping all the blame on Bonds for rampant steroid usage, either . Owners and commissioners, etc. have turned a blind eye because of the $$'s that the bashers help bring to the parks. However, it's short-sighted to group Bonds with others who are suspected of steroid use because others suspected of steroid use are not on the verge of breaking the biggest record in the sport. It's that simple. Of course Bond's is going to be the poster child for some fans not being down with steroid use in
  18. *disclaimer: the history you may be witnessing today was most likely attained through cheating. Legitimate home run numbers may be inflated.
  19. I believe Red River deals with her roots from the same general time frame but a different branch of her family tree.
  20. I agree. I really like the take on "This Little Light of Mine."
  21. Excellent book. I read it two years ago for a book club I organized at school for teachers. I've got her new one, Red River, ready to go soon.
  22. It's Richard Swift: http://www.livenation.com/event/getEvent/eventId/290014 I've never heard of him.... http://www.richardswift.us/
  23. My favorite part: "As you should be aware, one of Bon Jovi's most popular songs is entitled `It's My Life,'" the letter states. Quick raise of hands of how many people were aware of this. I thought so.
  24. I listened to Takers and Leavers last week or so. I'd never heard them before and grabbed it from the library due to the hype. I wasn't impressed at all. It wouldn't be the first time I was disappointed after hearing recent hyped bands, though. Maybe they're better live. Proving once again that we all hear things a little differently....
  25. Who was with him last weekend at the private gigs. Sless was also hanging out with Phil and Ryan that night in Denver at the bar. I dig him, too.
