  1. Forgot about that one. I had some last year. This year's holiday favorite so far is Shiner Cheer. Has pecan and peach. I have one called Pickled Santa. Lots of holiday spice in it. I'll drink it on Christmas.
  2. Probably has something to do with the availability of so many AUD recordings. I like it, but I like listening to the shows I've been to more.
  3. This admittedly stupid commercial made me laugh hard.
  4. I'm going to start Nick Hornby's latest, Juliet, Naked.
  5. totally agree. I thought maybe poon was being a bit nitpicky in calling that out, but it's very distracting.
  6. There's a somewhat similar story about Clifford Brown and Miles Davis playing My Funny Valentine. Brown blew people away with technical prowess, but the Miles took the stage and played with fiery emotion and left Brown in the ashes. I'm not sure if either story is true, they both sound apocryphal. I bet Louie knows the truth of the Brown/Davis story.
  7. The Hawkeyes have a great defense. Not sure they're quick enough to stick w/ Penn State. They'll have to be VERY disciplined, and I think they will. They will also have to produce turnovers and maybe even score if the Hawks are to win. I think Iowa can do it, sure hope so.
  8. Here, enjoy this Hannukah song from a conservative Republican / Mormon Senator from Utah. Written for his Jewish constituency. All 4 of them. http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=121240561
  9. Neil Young has the best 1-note guitar solo on "Cinnamon Girl". I'm partial to Bob Mould's solo on "Wishing Well". Any time Richard Thompson picks up a guitar, it's better than 99% of what's been played.
  10. The first show to use this method in Des Moines was Miley Cyrus. How many parents had to go through the ticket line just to get their tweens through the door? Ridiculous.
  11. When you take in the whole picture: instrumental prowess, composition, stage presence, versatility, he is definitely one of the greatest.
  12. Prince is an incredible guitar player, and that is a good solo. I'll take his solo on "Let's Go Crazy" over that, though.
  13. Biggest off season move so far doesn't involve any teams. Peter Gammons leaving ESPN for MLB Network
  14. 10 seconds of Numb or Radio Cure? IMO, they're both unbelievable. Comfortably Numb is such a classic rock radio staple that it took Bad Plus to remind me what a great song it is.
  15. I remember hearing that Ravi Shankar's contribution to her childhood were little beyond the act of conception. I think they have a decent relationship now, but if he wasn't much of a father, she's not much of a Shankar.
  16. Thought I might see this post after I saw the score. I think the jury's still out on Tomlin. He's a young man and was a great coordinator. He certainly hasn't done anything to lose his job, esp. in Pittsburgh where head coach stability is a trademark of the franchise.
  17. Nothing in particular to add to this thread today except I really enjoyed catching up on it.
  18. Daily Routine drudge nyt (esp. on Wed. and Sun. to read Friedman) via chicago comics.com/frazz Minneapolis Star Tribune Sports section facebook
  19. Finally finished Moby Dick. It was the wrong autumn to tackle it. Glad I read it, but I've been so busy, it took forever. Started this now. I might start one of these 2 before I finish this one:
