  1. Did anyone ever see the "Phantom Edit". Someone re-edited it to focus on the darkest parts of the story and it got rave reviews on the Interwebs. Bad movie? Yes. Worth it for the light saber fight at the end with some of John Williams' best music ever? Yeah.
  2. Surprised by 2 things. 1) You answered before Mt. Bed, 2) It took either of you 23 minutes to answer.
  3. I agree with a lot of this. Favre doesn't know his limitations. BUT, the Carolina loss had next to nothing to do with Favre. It had a lot to do with Julius Peppers and an underperforming Vikings offensive line and defense. Edit: You should know, I thought in August and I think now that in the long run, bringing Favre aboard was a mistake. He may wear down and unless we win the Super Bowl, it just isn't worth the turmoil. You just can blame Sunday's loss on him.
  4. There are some great songs on the Instigator. The Believer was not good. Haven't heard the newest one yet, but I did just recently order it. Old 97s music has provided me with so much, that I figure buying his solo work, even if it isn't great is worth it.
  5. That reminds me of when, during my 4 year olds' nap time, I was folding laundry and watching Star Wars Robot Chicken. My daughter came in and before I could turn it off, saw I was watching Star Wars. I told her it was Star Wars for grown ups only. That didn't make sense to her.
  6. Cool hipsters will totally dig Booker T. That one really doesn't make sense.
  7. SC has some pretty strange liquor laws, doesn't it? That may be part of it. When my wife went there for a wedding 15 or so years ago, she said bars served all mixed drinks with airplane size bottles, I guess to keep bartenders for making drinks too strong. There are a few beers in Iowa that aren't distributed because the tax rate goes up with the percentage of alcohol, or something like that.
  8. Forgot about that one. I had some last year. This year's holiday favorite so far is Shiner Cheer. Has pecan and peach. I have one called Pickled Santa. Lots of holiday spice in it. I'll drink it on Christmas.
  9. Probably has something to do with the availability of so many AUD recordings. I like it, but I like listening to the shows I've been to more.
  10. This admittedly stupid commercial made me laugh hard.
  11. I'm going to start Nick Hornby's latest, Juliet, Naked.
  12. totally agree. I thought maybe poon was being a bit nitpicky in calling that out, but it's very distracting.
  13. There's a somewhat similar story about Clifford Brown and Miles Davis playing My Funny Valentine. Brown blew people away with technical prowess, but the Miles took the stage and played with fiery emotion and left Brown in the ashes. I'm not sure if either story is true, they both sound apocryphal. I bet Louie knows the truth of the Brown/Davis story.
  14. The Hawkeyes have a great defense. Not sure they're quick enough to stick w/ Penn State. They'll have to be VERY disciplined, and I think they will. They will also have to produce turnovers and maybe even score if the Hawks are to win. I think Iowa can do it, sure hope so.
  15. Here, enjoy this Hannukah song from a conservative Republican / Mormon Senator from Utah. Written for his Jewish constituency. All 4 of them. http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=121240561
  16. Neil Young has the best 1-note guitar solo on "Cinnamon Girl". I'm partial to Bob Mould's solo on "Wishing Well". Any time Richard Thompson picks up a guitar, it's better than 99% of what's been played.
  17. The first show to use this method in Des Moines was Miley Cyrus. How many parents had to go through the ticket line just to get their tweens through the door? Ridiculous.
  18. When you take in the whole picture: instrumental prowess, composition, stage presence, versatility, he is definitely one of the greatest.
  19. Prince is an incredible guitar player, and that is a good solo. I'll take his solo on "Let's Go Crazy" over that, though.
