  1. maybe this has been suggested before, but doesn't "I Taught Myself.." sound like it could be a Smiths song? give it a thumping beat, a jangly guitar and a smooth bassline and morrissey's voice singing "crooked on the outside, inside's caved." maybe it's just me. haha.
  2. proof that no opinion matters other than your own. famous or not.
  3. "Easy Tiger = Demolition II" that sounds just about right. and not in a bad way either.
  4. yeah. you may very well be right, as i really haven't heard that much of them until recently and from what i've heard, nothing really sounded too out there. but i can definitely hear their quirkiness. another thing is i'm slowly realizing how bad this compilation i have is. it's not the '89 Ultimate Collection release, thats for sure. i'll just have to listen to their albums and draw a conclusion then.
  5. yeah Time Of The Season is certainly the worst song on O&O, yet it's the most known. funny how that works. it's not a bad song by any means. it's just that it almost doesn't belong on that album of much much better songs. as far the Kinks, there isn't much to be acquired in their sound, i think. its not extremely unique or anything. i love their 60's sound, as the many other bands that share it. maybe it's just the first few songs on this compilation that sound second rate to me. i'm guessing it's chronological, because the later tracks on the compilation are much better than the early
  6. i tried getting into the Kinks just recently (The Ultimate Collection) and the songs didn't stick out as much as i wanted them to. it was depressing. i had already heard "You Really Got Me" and "All Day and All of the Night" and wanted a song besides those to really grab me. "Waterloo Sunset" is a classic though and that was a nice listen. so was "See My Friend". i prefer The Creation much more. that's another band worthy of mention. i'll have to listen to it again. not sure that particular compilation is a good way to get into them but yeah. and i agree with the whole Stones being great thi
  7. i don't think it's overhyped. at all. and because it is a solid album is precisely why.
  8. The Late Greats for sure. the chords which are held on the recording are chopped short after the first chorus and the ending live. totally makes an okay song amazing for me.
  9. now THAT'S gonna rule. thanks.
  10. i've never really sat down and read through them, but from what i've read, they're awesome. if you're interested in music and have been to a Barnes and Noble or any music book store, you've seen 'em.
  11. they're playing Bowery Ballroom next week. should i go see them? haven't heard one note of their music.
  12. i was going to write gastr del sol but someone recognized them when i posted about Camoufleur in an old thread. good stuff. Joan Of Arc Lungfish Nomo
  13. Owls Make Believe Ghosts and Vodka The Bodines The Jai-Alai Savant Sparks Kevin Barker (Currituck County) Mike Kinsella (Owen) Keith Cross & Peter Ross
  14. yeah i remember that MacDonald book as being a definitive for many Beatles fans.
  15. exactly! haha. my point exactly. it's not like it's gonna spawn a whole slew of idiot fans. most wilco fans are wilco fans because they love the music, not because of any commercialism it may be concerned with.
  16. i agree with you wholeheartedly. big. deal. people are taking it way too seriously. just enjoy the band who write songs you love. i can't stress that enough. it's baffling.
  17. i bet. wish i was alive then too. reading about it is good enough though. haha. i gotta say, A Day In The Life is without a doubt one of the best songs ever written. and that ending, the screeching of all those instruments, ending bombastically and gloriously with that Emaj chord.. masterful. and "Within You, Without You".. what a song, what lyrics. "Try to realize it's all within yourself, no one else can make you change. And to see you're really only very small and life flows on within you and without you" very powerful. bless George. great album. not my favorite either, but that's irr
  18. heartfelt and real responses like that go a long way. in my eyes at least. no one can fairly argue the way you just put it and you said what you feel about the situation to boot. should've said all that in your very first post. and now we got a 30+ page thread. haha.
  19. that's just ridiculous.. haha.
  20. seriously, people change. big deal. 'big deal' is all i have to say to this whole thread. no offense to J or anyone. they still make good music in my book, and that's ALL that matters, VW commercial or not. jesus..
  21. i didn't bother to read all 24 pages but i don't think of Wilco as selling out, even if their newest album is #4 on the charts or if a song of theirs plays in some commercial. truth is, wilco is not that big a band and are hardly known outside it's large fanbase (if that makes sense) haha. i don't think it's anything to worry about. most of the people that listen to the band are true fans and that's really all that matters. that's the difference between a great band selling out and a great band who are successful to me; wilco fans are real fans. and yeah, to those taking the car commercial t
  22. 30 is the retail price. try to find a cheaper dvd somewhere but it's not like it's 50 or anything. 30 isn't that bad for a two disc dvd.
  23. yeah i picked up on the "hxxp" thing off ateaseweb.com maybe so it wouldn't be easy to detected. if at all. but i guess i shouldn't post it anyway. needless to say, enjoy.
