  1. #1 is cool, but I think #3 would make a better shirt.
  2. Me too. It's also the Wilco album I listen to the least, I'll confess. It's got a few songs on it I love, but I don't play the whole thing much.
  3. Some friends having been taking their kids, now 8 and 11, to Wilco shows for a few years. We don't try to get right down front, so the kids have plenty of room, and they've loved the shows. I think Wilco is a great first show for a kid.
  4. Why is it they seem to snub PA so much? With as many great venues as there are, you'd think they'd play Philly more regularly, or at least play at a university in the area. I always have to drive a ways to see Wilco, but Philly is actually closer than where I've seen them most recently. I'm hoping the tour will stretch into 2008 and that they'll come back to the northeast then.
  5. He was probably trying to find out what it feels like to be as tall as Nels!
  6. The tour extends through the northeast through October 9. Amos Lee is also supporting (according to listings on Pollstar). The full list of tour dates is on bobdylan.com. I saw Dylan back in June, and I think it was the best performance of the five times I've seen him. I've loved Elvis Costello for years but have never gotten to see him. The tour will be in Syracuse, about an hour from me, but I have to teach that night. Looks like I'll have to drive all the way to Albany if I want to see them. Damn.
  7. Speaking of Kerouac (but not of Tweedy), I was interested to read this article about the new edition of On the Road being released soon: http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20070818/en_af...ks_070818083434 On the Road was one of the first books that was really important to me when I started writing seriously and when I started studying English in college. I haven't read it in a few years, so I'm looking forward to picking this up when it comes out, though I do hope they inserted some paragraph breaks. I'm a bit skeptical about the movie being any good, but I said that about the film adaptations of M
  8. Wow, great encores last night. I thought about tuning in, but I knew I had to get up early today. Stupid new grown-up job that makes me have to adjust my sleep schedule!
  9. The stream had a lot of skips and beeps and other noise last night, so you'll probably be better off looking for a crowd recording. It still sounded like a great show, though! I'll be tuning in again tonight.
  10. I just got it back, but it's been skipping a lot for me. Eh...skippy Wilco is better than no Wilco, I guess. I doubt I'll listen to the whole show, though.
  11. "I have no idea how this happens All of my maps have been overthrown Happenstance has changed my plans So many times my heart has been outgrown" I really love these lines. We can try to plan and map out every little thing in our lives, and even when we believe we've got everything figured out, chance can change everything. Sometimes things take a turn for the worst, but often good things happen when we least expect them to. I think this song is a lot about the conflict a lot of us might feel in these situations--it's hard to just trust fate, but good things can happen if you do.
  12. Cool. Thank you. The only copy I'd found so far was $30 on Amazon.
  13. I'll have to go out and pick up the new issue. I recently contacted them to see if I could order a copy of the issue back in '05 where he was on the cover, but they were sold out of it. That's a great interview, too, available here.
  14. Jeff's brother's name is Steve. He dedicated his book of poems Adult Head to "my brother Steve, for introducing me to the word." (and it's a great book, incidentally )
  15. Via Chicago, Misunderstood, Sunken Treasure, and Ashes of American Flags come to mind first. Either Way has also really resonated with me from the first time I heard it. The first few months of this year were really tough for me, and around the time SBS came out I was finally starting to feel okay again, and Either Way captures that feeling so well.
  16. Draw Breath is one of my favorite albums of the year. I kick myself for taking so long to check out Nels's other projects, because he's an amazingly talented guy.
  17. I was so excited to see that there's a show scheduled in Woodstock, until I realized it's the same day as my grandmother's 80th birthday party. I could possibly get down to Philadelphia, but it would be a stretch. Hopefully he'll squeeze in some more east coast shows in the fall. Draw Breath is mind-blowing.
  18. I've got to disagree there. This is one of my favorite Wilco tunes, and as much as I love the studio version, I think Nels's solo at the end is a big improvement. I really love the way that first small solo breaks open You Are My Face. I think that's my favorite moment of SBS.
  19. U2 is my favorite band besides Wilco. I've seen them quite a few times over the years, and they've got an incredible energy live. They definitely deserve to be there. I would've ranked Wilco higher, but hey, I'm biased.
  20. Chances are her bed might have an extra long mattress, since many dorms do, so you want to double check that before you buy any of her bedding. If she'll be living in a dorm that has a community bathroom rather than suite-style rooms, make sure to get her a shower caddy to carry everything back and forth, as well as a pair of flip flops for the shower! Community bathrooms can be gross, especially on the weekends when the cleaning staff is off. I used a drying rack a lot after I did laundry, since the dryers in my dorms were never great. It also might be a good idea to buy her a few common medi
  21. Too bad the Buffalo show is on a night when I teach. Armchair Apocrypha is one of my favorite albums of 2007, and I'd really like to see him perform.
  22. Absolutely. It's been a long time since a song resonated with me the way that Either Way has, and I was so thrilled that they opened with it when I saw them a few weeks ago, because I know they haven't been playing it much. I never get tired of Jesus, Etc. I've also yet to hear two of my favorite Wilco tunes live--Sunken Treasure and Ashes of American Flags.
