This is very sad. His death is certainly untimely. Once again, live every day.... LouieB

Going to Chicago....what to do, see, stay, etc.
LouieB replied to LouieB's topic in Tongue-Tied Lightning
Divvy Bike rides might be fun. You get them for half hour at a time. Also a bike or walk on the 606 trail or whatever it is called would be a great daytime activity. Any random visit to the Art Institute, the Museum of Contemporary Art (both have admissions) or some time in the Cultural Center (free) is worthwhile. Take the el to a neighborhood you have not been to and walk around is also a great way to spend the day. Or simply get on one of the el lines and ride to the end of the line and back, particularly if you go west or south for a change of pace. This has been mentioned before, b -
Visiting Chicago next month. Wilco stuff I should check out?
LouieB replied to Craig Borders's topic in Just A Fan
No, sort of Chicago Style at Super Dawg. Mustard, onions, relish, pickle, and as a twist, pickled green tomato. Super Dawg is really not worth the trip for the hot dogs or the photo op alone. Both, maybe, but it is in the far northwest reaches of Chicago. The Hideout is also where Jeff met Mavis Staples. LouieB -

Well all those suggestions seem pretty hard core. Super Dawg is far off the beaten track, but if you have a car and eat hot dogs I guess it is worth a visit. If you simply want to go to club where Wilco and Wilco members have played, do the Hideout. If you want to experience what being a Wilco fan is like in Chicago, pick a cold day and stand out in front of either the Vic or the Riviera Theaters all day. You can also find the store front where Lounge Ax used to be. LouieB -

Although it is a shadow of it's former self, The Reader is a great resource for finding out what is going on. Also Time Out on line LouieB -
Okay I am confused. I was referring to the GOP in 2020. What's that have to do with 2008? LouieB

Nope. See the thread we always refer folks to and that should suffice. This poster is probably not really interested in much we have to say anyway. It's not like Chicago is there to entertain Wilco fans only. We have all kinds of fun stuff to do that has nothing to do with Wilco. And I am also a bit tired of making suggestions and then never hearing if anyone took any of those (or others) suggestions, LouieB -
We'll all have to stick around and see what the GOP looks like. There is talk that the Dems are also breaking apart as well. Four parties? Might be fun. LouieB

That's not too bad for either I guess. LouieB

At this point I would be in favor of dumping all the candidates on both sides and starting over. The actual election is going to be a stone drag. I have voted for Bernie and given him all the money I intend to give him (just a little so I can say I donated something), but at this point everyone seems out of new things to say. When the actual election occurs (Clinton vs. Trump), I am beginning to believe this may be the lowest turn out in years; between the Bernie people not voting for Hillary and the GOP regulars not voting for Trump, its going to be crickets at the polls. edit - Actuall

Well it's a strange song. I had a lot of fun times with my Tank Green Nova for sure, including working the tomato strike one summer in northwest Ohio. The head gasket leaked and I had to add oil all the time and the carbonator would come loose and I would have to take it off and tighten the connections and redo the vacuum hoses. Yea, that was an interesting summer in my youth. I do like One Wing. LouieB

How much is this going to cost? Sounds really expensive. LoueiB

You Never Know may be one of the worst songs ever and can firmly be labeled dad rock for it's sentiment (sorry Jeff). And W(TS) reminds me too much of Kojak, which is never a good thing. Having said that I actually like You and I, although I totally understand why others are less enthusiastic. I think it is one of the best songs on the album. Black Bull Nova reminds me of my old tank green Nova, so I'm okay with that. Sky Blue Sky has a fantastic cover, but I hate the camel on the cover of W(TA), not sure why. Whereas the lovely images of the flock of birds is so evocative of the songs on

Sort of what I figured. LouieB

While I have kind of stopped caring, how did the NY debate go for Bernie and Hillary? Any game changers? LouieB

Personally I can't think of one that I like less than W(TA). Too bad you didn't hear something else first. But if you like this album (which isn't bad, it just isn't up to the high level of some of the others), you must love the rest. I guess those of us who have been around longer find it wanting compared to Summerteeth, Being There, Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, etc. LouieB

Yup, I saw that twice in the last couple days. A bit jarring, but still cool. LouieB

Is this a true statement of a snarky comment? Just want to know how hard to laugh. LouieB

Each year the Rock Hall seems to be getting lamer and lamer. LouieB

I was reading in the Trib this morning how Axl Rose broke his foot and is confined to a wheelchair on stage. I realized I am not now, nor have I have been interested in Guns n' Roses. LouieB

More of the same too bad, some new songs would be welcome. I'm certainly not opposed to older artists going the standards/covers route, but in the case of Bob Dylan, it seems a waste after a point. LouieB

Happened while I was on the road. This is really the end of an era. LouieB

Good on you. Which ones do you listen to? Surfs Up and? You got original Capitols or some sort of re-issue? LouieB

I am well aware of how people vote in MA. But that doesn't mean I don't think people shouldn't vote for the best possible candidate that matches their political philosophy. Without reigniting the arcane argument about whether voting for Ralph Nader was a good idea, I don't know that anyone wants to fuck around with the possibility of a President Trump or Cruz, but then again no one thought George W Bush would be too bad either. Or that the Supreme Court would decide the election instead of the voters. LouieB

I know YOU do....since we had this convo about 5 or more years ago, but I am going to guess there is not a single person on this board that has any interest in hardly any other albums but Pet Sounds, Smile and maybe Sunflowers. There may be a partisan or two for one of the live albums or maybe one of the other greatest hits packages, I own a bunch of the early albums used, LouieB
