  1. Yikes..what am I going to miss this weekend? No plans go hit the clubs...I was out two nights last weekend. Thanks all for your good wishes. As it is I have ended up in Springfield hanging out by myself since work called and I needed to go. Such is life, but at least it is warm and sunny in central IL. Going to get some dinner and hit the hay....Thanks again. Lou
  2. Outdoor venues that are summer homes of orchestras have had pop concerts for years. It brings in lots of money and lots of new folks to the venue. This is neither odd nor unusual. The same thing happens at Ravinia (home of the Chicago Symphony) every summer, as it does at Blossom (summer home of the Cleveland Symphony) and I am sure at every other venue of its sort everywhere. Wilco was just lucky enough to be asked. During the Being there years, Wilco was still playing mostly clubs, but now it is a big draw type group. No mystery here at all. LouieB
  3. For the first time it seems actually possible that Jeremiah Wright could torpedo Obama's chances of winning the presidency. I don't even disagree with the guy in general and certainly he has a right to his take on things, but damn...he is doing Barak irreperable harm. LouieB
  4. Are we talking about the Neil Diamond show? Horrible in general.....time for JASON to go..long long long past time actually. LouieB
  5. Really sorry to hear this.....life is too short even when it is long. Sorry for your loss... LouieB

  9. Tim Fite has some pretty clever lyrics.... LouieB
  10. Even though I was bad rapping rap on another thread I will admit there is plenty of room for poetry, but on the other side of the coin, there is so much crap that it well overshadows what is good, hence giving rap (or hip hop if you prefer) a pretty bad name. LouieB
  11. Not really since we all know bluegrass sounds alike... LouieB
  12. Rap is just barely poetry...just because it rhymes doesn't make it poetry..... "Ho" rhymes with alot of stuff.... There's a ho at my do(or) and it's starting to snow.... I gotta go get off the flo(or) and drink some mo(re) I am getting kinda queezy, cause I just saw Weezie Playing some Parcheezie with my old buddy Easy I just really need to drop somebody on my block Cause I'm tired of the way that guy's been treatin me today And I'm gonna shoot that stuff cause I can barely see that muff I lost my train of thought, but this kind of talent can't be bought Yea, I know its simple now, since o
  13. Nice review.... At this stage of the Chicago music scene I think guys like Chad Taylor will play with just about anyone they think is a serious musician no matter what the genre. Everyone is pretty tied in together at this point. As far as King Heron is concerned, I think the album was just slightly a one off kind of project (improvised in the studio) and maybe they don't feel that tied to the structure of those pieces. At first I wasn't that enamored of Iron and Wine, resisting the lo-fi charm and all. Then I listened to his earliest material and really kind of dig it. But frankly
  14. Uh yea...exactly....I own some PE, but little else in the rap genre. Most of it sounds like crap (and reads like crap as well.) It isn't that hip-hop sucks by default, it is just that it has crawled up its own ass so far, little of it is worthwhile. As an urban dweller I am particularly (not) fond of the cars blowing this shit out their speakers at all times of day and night, all of it sounding interchangeable and obnoxious... LouieB
  15. Apparently there is...but am I late saying this? LouieB
  16. Liberace on CL 6217...his debut on 10 inch (so to speak....) LouieB
  17. I hava a vinyl copy I got not so long ago for only a few bucks. One of these albums is all they needed to release... LouieB
  18. So it isn't REALLY vinyl only... LouieB
  19. I got to see Sandy Denny with Fairport Convention......crazy crazy show with David Swarbuck on fiddle. I just can't believe it is 30 fucking years.....The most famous song she wrote and sang and which was covered by Judy Collins and made her a ton of money was "Who Knows Where the Time Goes". In this case the time has gone very fast and very far..... LouieB
  20. Good call... Tiny Tim was supposed to be annoying..that was the whole point... LouieB
