  1. I figure it can only help him... LouieB
  2. Great performer. I saw him a couple times back in the day which was like the late 70s at Chicagofest. I have a few of his albums. Where are the performers with substance now??? (Jeez we are nearly the same age...yikes.....I always thought he was quite a bit older than me, he must have started young.) LouieB
  3. Yea I know, but I STILL think it is time for another one......if we don't have at least one a week or so this place just won't feel right. LouieB
  4. It has been so long since a Bright Eyes thread has been on this board I figured he had completely fallen off the VC radar....I guess we need another Ryan Adams thread now.... LouieB
  5. Luckily it is outside...so you can move to the far end of the park if necessary... LouieB
  6. Yes I have seen it. It is a movie about mental health more than music. I understand his appeal and I feel badly for him (I also bought some of his CDs) and don't think there is much romantic about mental illness. Johnston among many oother things is OCD. The must upsetting part of the movie is not IN the movie, but is the meeting with his former "girl-friend" at SXSW or wherever it was. AFter seeing that I felt even worse about him. I think Bright Eyes has depth of a sort, but have just never been that interested in him. Frankly there is no connection between these two singers; not ev
  7. I am amazed anyone is still talking about him (or Daniel Johnston for that matter...) LouieB
  8. but...weighty.... As far as classical..hit your local library...they probably have lots of stuff.... Chopin is always good. LouieB
  9. The Sound Opinion guys panned this thing...called it a "trash it" disk....yikes. LouieB
  10. Agreed. I spoke to Billy about Jeff a bit and he didn't seem to have any ill will. I have said this here so many times... but Bragg helped Wilco out alot by involving them. They brought alot to the party, but without Billy requesting them it wouldn't have happened. As it is, Wilco exploded, reached all kinds of new audiences and made a masterpeice in the process. In 10 or so years there will be a Mermaid Ave box set with outtakes, etc. I am sure of it. Even if they artistic and personal issues, the end result benefited both of them (and Jay for that matter.) Some day all the bad blo
  11. Well okay.....Dogett was heading somewhere but it never got fully developed. While it was okay....losing Mulder didn't help my interest, but I did watch it. LouieB
  12. I met him once myself and had a ball, hanging out backstage with him and Grant Showbiz. He really isn't an ass, I just think MITS paints him in a weird light. He loves his fans and is very generous with his time from what I have seen and he has been on the right side of many many causes over the years as well. Dumping his songs from the mix is okay in some respects, but his material is also very strong and worth listening to. LouieB
  13. Frankly the entire enterprise (not talking Star Trek here either) went down in flames after that....the final season was horrible..... LouieB
  14. I have the Jack Johnson one also (nice quotes from Nels in the booklet by the way.) I have always liked JJ better than BB anyway and it includes a bunch of stuff that ended up on other LPs at a later time. It is interesting how they cobbled the original LP together. Yea, Miles, Coltrane and Evans died..but not necessarily for Wynton's sins.... LouieB
  15. It sounds like the promoters are desperate.....when they start giving tickets away to the Metro (not a really huge club, but pretty good sized) they must be expecting a disappointing audience. LouieB
  16. Now if we can just get Barak and Hillary together we will be in business.... Well if I stopped writing bullshit on the fly it might be easy to see where I am coming from I suppose, but you do get the idea. I do think there are problems with what is on the radio, I think that goes without saying, but it is certainly a part of the problem. But as I began to think about it more it seems to have had more to do with the thing about playing something that seems to hold its own when played on an accoustic guitar, but also something with a tune that most people can carry and words that may mean so
  17. This sounds terrible.... LouieB
  18. EVeryone Wang Chung tonight!!! or something... LouieB
  19. Uh yea..definitely. I think Rhino or someone brought out an album of this kind of stuff several years back. The 50s and 60s was a great time for one hit wonders. and you have to love the internet.... ,....and Wikipedia... LouieB
  20. Good vibes!!!! Hang in there Dunja..... LouieB
  21. Yea, I suppose their songs aren't really inspirational campfire type songs.... It s a hell of a funny thought though... LouieB
