The Ryman Auditorium - Nashville, TN - 10/21/14

30 songs.... all over the place (pun intended). Highlights for me were: - Hearing a song that I've never heard before (Promising) - The Misunderstood acoustic / off-mic closer, including Jeff being "choir director" on our loudness for the nothings - Hearing my namesake song (Shot in the Arm), and watching Nels wave his guitar wildly for the ending, while Pat banged out the piano parts and Mikael used a pillow to abuse his keyboard to make amazing sounds. It's quite a spectacle. - One Wing... hadn't heard that in a while. So good. - Getting both Nels face-melters (Ashes and IG); the lighting -
Hopefully this snafu won't affect the beverage stands this evening.

I was hoping for several alternate versions of the drone from Less Than You Think.

For Hong Kong, get an Octopus card. It's a rechargeable "ticket" that works on the subway, bus, Star Ferry, and even in many of the 7-11 type shops in the subway. It's a lot easier than buying single trip tickets. The subway is a breeze there. If the weather is clear at night, the view at The Peak is well worth it. I also recommend the jade market (daytime) and the temple street night market. There is no better city on the planet for people watching than Hong Kong. It's the safest big city I know of. There's not a dark alley I wouldn't go down in HK. I haven't been to Seoul in a whi

Today I find myself with a missed flight to China and an unexpected overnight in Seattle. What to do here??

I believe it's time that Lotti interviewed Gornok. I'd like to see that post soon.

What Uncle Tupelo song should Wilco tackle on their next tour?
theashtraysays replied to remphish1's topic in Just A Fan
We've Been Had is definitely hard to argue with. Screen Door would be my pick if I only had one choice. Wilcobase shows that it was played a few times back in the mid 90's. -
Vibeage... You guys hang in there.

I think this would be the emoticon of choice:

That was pretty adorable. My favorite since the Popeye video!!

My Amazon pre-order finally arrived yesterday evening.... Amazon "guaranteed" delivery by 8PM... the UPS guy showed up at 7:30. sigh. Well worth the wait though. I saw Tweedy live in June, which was the only time I've heard these songs before today. I'm glad I saw them live, even with the unfamiliar material. It was sort of a big listening party which was cool. But the songs didn't really blow me away, and I found myself wanting to hear Jeff play all the guitar parts rather than the guys he brought along (all of whom were quite capable, of course... but not Jeff). And Jeff stayed on ac

BAM show to be live streamed on Tuesday night
theashtraysays replied to Magnetized's topic in Just A Fan
Nice. I found this a little ironic: Live stream of Tweedy concert at BAM, part of Nonesuch Records at BAM. The show starts at 9pm EST. - See more at: http://www.bam.org/TweedyLive#sthash.Vr1xSNgo.dpuf -
Nice read. thanks for posting. Loved this quote:

That's who I thought of when I saw this thread. "Everything That Happens Will Happen Today" with Brian Eno and the "Love This Giant" collaboration with St. Vincent are excellent records. I loved all his work in Talking Heads (and still do), but I really think that those two records are "essential" to his music catalog. He's really someone who's moved forward and stayed interesting. Another one who I really admire and enjoy throughout his career is Joe Jackson. "Night Music" and "Heaven & Hell" were done in his 40's (OK, technically not eligible for this thread), and those are two of

New U2 album "Songs of Innocence" available free on iTunes
theashtraysays replied to Hixter's topic in Someone Else's Song
My daughter and I gave the record half a spin in the car yesterday. She is (was) a huge U2 fan, but neither one of us found this new one to be very interesting at first (half) listen. Will try again but not optimistic. -
Just something else that I won on the radio
theashtraysays replied to PopTodd's topic in Tongue-Tied Lightning
So, not exactly on the radio, but I did win a Califone poster and CD from the venue where they are playing (and I am going!) tonight, for propagating social media about the show on the facebook, which I am happy to do for Califone. I never win anything!! This is like a major award in my world. -
Well, there you go.... night 3 on 10/30 posted on FB just now. Presale: 9/9 @ 10am. On sale: 9/10 @ 12pm.
