  1. Woo, VC may thank you! Last weekend I attended our Hotel SnS basement show, and Jeff played this song. It's hard to know for sure from the acoustic version, but my somewhat hazy memory indicates that it sounded pretty rocking. Not sure I could speak to the overall lyrical content, but I think there was a line about setting kids on fire... Hey, I laughed.
  2. I got everything I wanted from my local store, including the Ryan Adams and Big Star. $14.99 and $34.99, respectively.
  3. Hahaha. Sure would! These shows always make for one of my favorite music weekends of the year, and this year was no exception. Great stuff all around. By the way, did any women sing along to "Ripple?" It sounded like the all-dude chorus.
  4. It's a good song, damn it! I loved hearing it on the resonator guitar.
  5. I see they're doing the poster retrospective again. They should really ask fans for submissions. It was fun seeing the posters last year, but I know some people with more extensive personal Wilco poster collections than were reflected in that exhibit. I love that there aren't many conflicts on the schedule. And it's nice to have Wilco Friday and Saturday, and then side projects on Sunday.
  6. My "To Read" list has exploded lately. I recently saw the Replacements documentary, which made me want to reread this: Meanwhile, I just finished this: And am in the middle of this: Both of those were from the library. I also got "At Home" from the library, but had to take it back before I was finished. Then today I bought this: and this:
  7. I appreciate that bbop is willing to shuttle the empty beer glasses of others back to the bar.
  8. I'm standing on the very spot where we "watched" the inauguration!
  9. Yeah, I heard her (sitting in the seat directly behind me) asking, "Is that me?" after Jeff said he was dedicating the song to the mayor's daughter, but I was kind of hoping it was true anyway. Thanks for the sleuthing, P. I always love "So Much Wine," but sometimes I get the feeling that people who aren't familiar with it don't get that it really isn't a funny song. It was bound to get some appreciative laughs after that dedication, though. Of course, the "Via Chicago" laughs were somewhat mysterious.
  10. By the way, the song I was trying to get you guys to figure out as "the one where I never understood any of the words" was Invisible Touch. I actually had trouble Googling it because ... of the whole never understanding any of the words thing. And on the subject of the show, I can't believe I didn't mention how much I enjoyed the new song. I'm excited to hear it with more instruments.
  11. I had a lot of fun last night - excellent show, and our dinner beforehand was nearly as much fun. I've missed the local crew! As T mentioned, "Pieholden" and "Candyfloss" were highlights. I'd like to add that Jeff was particularly proud of the "You Are Not Alone" > "Born Alone" > "How to Fight Loneliness" > "I'll Fight" progression in the setlist. A certain friend of mine suggested shouting out a request for "Let's Fight" as the next song, but we refrained. I also really liked the new resonator guitar. And thanks to whomever gave Jeff the Recall Walker sticker that he was sporting for
  12. Is this the vinyl with the most egregious typos ever in the liner notes? I remember thinking it must have been intentional, they were so bad. But I believe Scott McCaughey is on the record saying they weren't.
  13. I've never heard this song, but that's not going to stop me from making a setlist recommendation. This song followed by Madonna's "Open Your Heart." I'm sure it would be a fascinating compare/contrast exercise based on (what may possibly be the) title. Maybe in Madison. Thanks for the reports! I'm eager to hear any new songs ... and the older ones, too.
  14. Well, I'll keep my hopes up, then! And good luck with your bed rest.
  15. Betcha it's a typo... not that I wouldn't be thrilled with Neil.
  16. Glenn's put out three solo albums. It seems like forever since I've seen him do a solo show, so I'm happy to see this. I miss the Monkey Chant.
  17. http://www.antimusic.com/news/11/feb/25Cheap_Trick_Wilco_Supergroup_Set_EP_Release.shtml Cheap Trick Wilco Supergroup Set EP Release There is a new supergroup on the block: Candy Golde, a collaboration of Nicholas Tremulis (Nicholas Tremulis Orchestra), Bun E. Carlos (Cheap Trick) John Stiratt (Wilco) and Rick Rizzo (Eleventh Dream Day). The band is releasing a self-titled EP on May 11, and will be performing live for the first time at SXSW on March 18. The band is being billed as a distinctive blend of blues groove, power pop, Americana. The EP was mastered by Ivan Julian of Richard H
  18. Columbia Misty Rose: Except mine had a basket, and I put those multi-colored plastic spoke things on the wheels that made noise if you rode slowly. I got it for Christmas in 1985 when I had just turned 6, complete with training wheels. Before it was warm enough to ride outside, I have very clear memories of riding it in circles down our basement while singing "Annie Christian" by Prince out loud. True story. I also thought for quite awhile it said "Mystery Rose" and not "Misty Rose," and the first time I read it correctly I was disappointed.
  19. The Madison police were out protesting along with the teachers and other workers today, too. Some teacher friends of mine were there at the capitol. Even if the Republicans ignore the mass protests and do what they're going to do anyway, the public demonstrations are at least making me feel slightly better about humanity. And yeah, that's crap.
  20. How's the biography, gogo? I'm currently reading this: It's relatively old - from 1990 - and I can't believe I haven't read it before now. Some of my favorite anecdotes are about the history of words. "Pupil" from the Latin pupilla, which means "a little doll" (because of the reflection people saw when looking into another person's eyes).
