  1. I loved the Skloot book! She's a great writer, and the Henrietta Lacks story is pretty amazing.
  2. She has a blog: http://sarahchurman.blogspot.com/ Really interesting. It seems that she could hear a little before with hearing aids, but nothing like she can now. Matt, she does mention this from the first day her device was turned on: "Oh, and on a sidenote.........Lady Gaga sounds horrible on the radio! Just sayin."
  3. Oh, I'm definitely glad they didn't put them all on sale at the same time! I'm just saying that's the best way to make sure different people are at each show, if that were the priority. I have a feeling that marketing/selling tickets, and ensuring that everyone who wants a ticket to each of these shows is on equal footing for each ticket sale, was more of a priority. Remember, they sold a 5-night pass for the residency. I'm psyched to see Wilco at the Vic again.
  4. Actually, the best way to ensure as many different people as possible see the shows would be putting them all on sale at the same time. For future reference!
  5. So we can safely say eTix (and this method of paperless ticketing) beats Front Gate and Ticketmaster, right?
  6. It has to do with Hatch Show Print. From http://www.ryman.com...tch/index.html : I mentioned in one of the After the Show threads that there was talk at the merch table of trying to get the posters reprinted and put them up online. But I'm sure it depends on how Hatch feels about that, and whether they can accommodate it.
  7. YOU'RE contrary to what some people are expressing here.
  8. I totally understand that people might prefer Jeff's guitar solos to Nels's, or the songs created before Nels to the songs created with Nels, etc. But I think some people are kind of missing the point that Nels doesn't add anything to a song (solos, pedal effects, lap steel, whatever) that the rest of the band - and specifically Jeff - don't want him to add. This has been covered many times in interviews with Jeff when asked about Nels's contribution to Wilco. So what you don't like isn't really Nels. What you don't like is what Jeff/Wilco wants Nels to do. Or what Jeff doesn't want to do hims
  9. He'd like you all to change back to whatever usernames you had when he was around. Thanks.
  10. Interesting observations, shoesgetcold. It underscores just how much someone's perception of a show depends on their own personal state of mind, background, expectations, baggage, etc. Here's the Isthmus review: In Overture Hall, Wilco hits a grand slam (Of course, they mention that a bonus track from the new CD, "Message from Mid-Bar," mesmerized the crowd. Not sure where that came from.) The crowd up front was very much into the show, and that's really all I could see (and all I cared about) from my perspective. I'd love to see Wilco at the Barrymore again, but I don't think that's go
  11. I was thrilled that they opened with Less Than You Think last night! I want to say the last time I saw that played was the residency? I'm not positive, but it's been a long time. I also enjoyed the extra YHF songs, with Ashes and Pot Kettle Black. The new tunes continue to sound awesome. It would have been fun to hear You Never Know, which was on the printed setlist - a double double-neck guitar night for Nels! - but I can't complain about the length of either show. I did note that Jeff announced it was the second-to-last show of the tour. I hope not, or I know a lot of people in Madison who'l
  12. I loved the show last night. The Ryman always looks, sounds, and just feels great. I've only seen One Sunday Morning as an opener, but I thought that was a really good position for it. And One Sunday Morning > Poor Places > Art of Almost was such a great combo. The photographers lucked out with songs 1-3 last night! It was kind of funny when I realized almost 25 minutes had passed and we were just three songs in. Seeing Nick Lowe up there with Wilco was a real treat. Everyone looked so happy. Hearing Jeff and Nick sing I Love My Label together was very cool.
  13. Not to mention the people who say "echo echo echo" and then crack up after Jeff sings "His goal in life was to be an echo" in Hummingbird.
  14. The film is told entirely through interviews with fans and people who were involved with the band. I didn't know much about the 'mats at all before the film, but I really liked it. I recognized a lot of the interviewees. The director was present at the screening, and he said afterward that one of the surprising people who wanted to be interviewed but the timing didn't work out was Pat Sajak! Anyway, there were so many great stories people told. My favorite may have been the one about Bob Stinson playing pinball with a guy in the bar and missing the first two and a half songs of the set. There
  15. I saw it at the Madison film festival earlier this year. I liked it a lot.
  16. I'm happy to see Jeff/Wilco coming back to Wisconsin for the fourth time in 2011!
  17. I heard about the guitar last December from a reliable source, so I think you can assume it's true. Something about a white double pick guard, too? I don't know anything about the price, though, or when it will be available or how you'd buy it. So ... maybe this isn't that helpful.
  18. I almost preordered the vinyl, until I saw that the cheapest shipping option was over $11. HAAAAAAAAA! That's nearly half the cost of the vinyl itself. Oh, Kung Fu. No. I'll be buying that in a record store.
  19. That was awesome. I agree that most adults would turn the ball over to a kid, but it's not such an easy thing for another kid to do - especially when he was clearly so excited himself.
  20. I'd be curious to hear whether these purchases get canceled. For your sake I hope not, but there was some confusion over the language that any multiple purchases for a single show would be canceled - even if the total was under the limit. If yours stand for a few days, I guess we know that's not what they meant.
  21. We thought his J.Lo sounded a little more like Dr. Evil.
