  1. Thanks for the report! I guess it's hard for any slower song played with just an acoustic guitar to not sound like a simple folky number. I look forward to hearing it sometime soon.
  2. I was in afternoon kindergarten, so I was at home when it happened. I wasn't watching the launch, but I was watching the Whammy game show on TV, and they interrupted it to show Challenger explosion footage. I just recall being confused and upset, and not fully understanding what was going on. I also remember that they made a Very Special Episode of the Punky Brewster show about the explosion. Punky was sad, too.
  3. No, Space Monkey (ha) had it right - this was auctioned off the first year of the living room show auctions. December 2004. The Loft listening party was auctioned off the year before, in 2003.
  4. I believe it was, and it's also my favorite Handsome Family song. So good. I also love "Don't Be Scared," which Andrew Bird recorded and is a highlight of any live show where he plays it.
  5. That sounds like the most terrifying gift ever to me! But I'm sure your dad will love it. I got my mom a ticket to see David Sedaris (with me) back in October. I wish the timing had been closer to Christmas, but maybe next time David and I can work something out.
  6. I just saw Bill Callahan at the 24-hour Letters to Santa benefit. I almost fell asleep, but that wasn't really his fault.
  7. It wasn't really a solo Jeff Tweedy show - he was a guest of Yo La Tengo. So I'm not really sure where this falls in the rule spectrum. And I am a moderator.
  8. This question was asked and addressed here: http://forums.viachicago.org/topic/44860-jeff-tweedy-silver-anniversary-tickets/ Just a reminder: this forum is for discussion of shows that have already happened.
  9. This is such a neat concept. Here's a link to the MTC studio site itself, where you can find posts and photos and videos: http://www.mtcstudio.org/ And if you have $5,000 burning a hole in your pocket, you could be lead commissioner of Glenn's MTC work!
  10. ...a lesser-known, unsuccessful TLC album from the late 1990's. Pieholden, ELT, I'll Fight - awesome! It sounds like you guys got a fun show.
  11. Also, as short as it seemed, Tarrytown only had three fewer songs than Bowery. Bowery was relatively short too.
  12. Eugene Draper reference! My major excitement tonight. (The show sounded excellent too.)
  13. It's technically a Laurie & John album, not an Autumn Defense album. (Laurie is John's twin sister - she's in Blue Mountain.) I haven't listened to it in a long time, but I recall really liking the song "Canadian Noon."
  14. January 7th and 8th, Boulder Theater, Boulder, CO. Presale on December 8th. I can't actually tell if this is Jeff or Wilco. Judging from the header on Wilcoworld, it's Jeff.
  15. I've got a few. Bjorn, feel free to choose one or none: There's also a set with older photos here.
  16. I just bought the stereo box. Now I'm glad I wavered so much between the two sets that I never bought any of the remasters when they came out. Ha. I think the counterfeit issues were with people buying the boxes through Amazon Marketplace.
  17. Can you make it little old Irish ladies at the Giants victory parade?
  18. I just won tickets to see Dawes play Live from Studio M (at local radio station) tomorrow afternoon!
  19. I put up my Christmas lights on the patio this afternoon. I'm not planning to turn them on until after Thanksgiving, but it was a nice sunny day. In Wisconsin, I taking advantage of those November days where I can. I like being able to feel my fingers when I have to do stuff with them.
  20. They had a couple of guest musicians that night, and one of them was using a little red "Going to Grandma's" suitcase to hold her gear. I had that same suitcase as a little kid, and I used to keep doll clothes in it. Couldn't tell you anything about their music! The Autumn Defense opened for Wilco at a show in 2006. The Pines, maybe? I wasn't there, but I heard about it. They were coming back from Canada and the real opening band was delayed at the border or something.
  21. I don't think it says anywhere that the top ten songs from the vote will absolutely be the songs on the compilation. Which makes sense, since it would be kind of weird to have a Record Club album with 8 INXS songs and 2 VU or something. I'm sure they'll take it into account, though.
  22. Same here, except I got it from the library. I'm almost done. The writing is definitely good, and I'm enjoying it, but it's depressing.
  23. Yeah, they were. Jim O'Rourke joined Wilco for a few songs; I can't remember if they aired. smog opened one of the Auditorium shows in Chicago - I can't remember which year.
