I just grabbed this off of Pitchfork, where apparently there is a tracklist of his upcoming album Smokey Rolls Down Thunder Canyon. I must say, I am impressed and disturbed by what I hear on his myspace of the two new songs. I hear two really really good songs, no doubt, but on 'Tonada..' I couldn't even tell if it was him singing, it sounds like the gutted his quivering vocals in the studio in favor of a more Strokes-y/Killers type, deep baritone sound. Rosa is incredible. If the rest of the album is this good, though, he'll have made an album that should canonize him for anyone who cons

Over rated: the entire AM album, Muzzle of Bees, Airline to Heaven is also garbage IMO. Under rated: I'm the Man Who Loves You, Company in my Back, Kicking Television

I'm the Man Who Loves You. On top of 12 string guitars and smooth cheesy keyboards laying lush bouncy melodies is a guitar solo that sounds like it's coming from an amp that's being set on fire...everytime I hear it I love it even more.

I didn't really read after page 1, but I can tell you from somone in a band where the only person who even knows a scale is myself, it's really 50/50. I think it's easier to create personally if the knowledge is there at least somewhat. Maybe my ears don't hear things like some people, but I can't really sit down with a guitar and just strum chords and it turns out right...sometimes it happens. But I think it's rare. Most people making good music know the basics at the least. I don't care about Daniel Johnstons or other mentally ill peope, those are 1/100000 people that people fall victim

am I the only person who thinks that the live arrangement of I'm the Man Who Loves You really pales in comparison to it's studio version? I always thought the most appealing thing when listening to that song was the harsh explosive guitar solo on top of a very upbeat up and down jangly backround music. When they play it live, it seems like they are all keeping the same type of arrangement but playing it electric, so you get hit with a very obnoxious wave of sound that sounds nothing like the original. I donno, it's probably my favorite Wilco song, and I just feel like it doesn't get the tre -
haha, if that's all it takes for your parents to send you to rehab, I should have been in and out 8 times according to those standards...

Ryan Adans vs Jeff Tweedy contrasting record reviews

really, what do people see in Ryan Adams? how much trite semi-country wannabe crap can you listen to by this asshole before you realize he's just some kid who got lucky with a record deal and has been playing rock star all this time? hey, look at him pretend to be Neil Young, now he's playing Springsteen, then he has Dylan mask on...sheesh, I can't understand what possible interest there is in his sound... -

is controversial in it's ability to be easy on the ears. -
I'm just a sad sap for beards:

http://img140.imageshack.us/my.php?image=h...drugs012ou1.jpg I was wondering because his hair is extra short, and I was actually at The Pines...it's actually almost even uglier than his punk rock mullet from YHF era. edit: the short hair. particuarly, I thought shaggy, bearded, green jacket Tweedy passed for a man who just entered his 30's, not his 40's.

incoming: bitching about the "we don't play our old stuff.." comment...

holy crap, when was that picture of Jeff taken?
-
haha, I think they should change the lyrics to the songs...the tone and lyrics of Let's Not Get Carried Away fit Let's Fight better. Picture Jeff singing the lyrics of Let's Fight to the tune of LNGCA...it also seems more appropriate that a song called Let's Fight would end with a drum solo that embodies the actual act of a fist fight.

Beck? Jim Morrison? personally, I always felt like he was a long lost Gallagher brother [of Oasis fame]...

hm...I guess I must be one of the only people who went wanting to hear certain songs and glad at the ones they threw in where I wasn't expecting.

this was an excellent show to have filmed, though, whatnot with the "sizzlers" being tossed and headband gift giving, as well as Outtasite in the encore.

billboard only proves there are a lot of people out there buying albums while others are downloading them...this is pretty evident in the firsts up there.

I also don't understand the original poster's condeming of somone he doesn't know. like I said before, do you know anyone in the band as a friend? then don't lose respect for him because of your assbackwards perspective on how the decision could have happened. No one here knows how exactly the decision was made and what the line of thinking was, so I don't think it's a very valid argument to say they've sold out and I don't think you're being fair to yourself to have music ruined because you have paranoia against commercials.

jesus...you people are taking this way too seriously. it's just a car ad and you're making moral judgement on people who you think you know because of the music they play. just because they are in car ads doesn't negate the fact that they give out their music for free on a regular basis, have had their album bought by the same company twice, and have made music that we all agree rivals even the messianic Beatles or Dylan. that's like saying to shill for your own car you're contributing to the problem so therefore you're just as bad as the company that employs tactics to get you to buy them.
-
both are terrible and Neil Young isn't even American. edit: some people are taking this way too personally. it's a fucking car ad. it'll be here for a few months at best and then you can stop bitching about the moral integrity of people you don't know. there was also outrage expressed at THIS 90210 appearance: but then they went on to make some of the greatest music ever heard and appear again on Charmed. big deal. you guys are taking this way too seriously.

by struggling though, I mean he has to bear the burden of pulling things back together after everyone else has been, as they say "thrown off a bubble."
