  1. I'm the short guy. There's a few funny stories about this band, like starting because of our High School's Battle of the Bands [this was like last April, May] getting about 4 weeks of practice and placing second, beating out a group of jazz kids doing incredible versions of originals and Lady Madonna. Then, we played at some parties and stuff, and entered a second battle of the bands and placing dead last against a lot of the same group. Oh Well!
  2. I find it funny that that New Yorker article complains about lack of blues and rythym. popular rap music is absolute trash, and even 90% of the "sophisticated" underground rappers can't break any lyrical motifs of the typical bullshit. Calling Dr. Dre the most important artist since The Beatles defeats his credibility. The Beatles knew their shit and wrote purposely. Dr. Dre samples from all over the place and does nothing but write the same drivel over and over again. Also, Blues music has been done by musicians who don't know anything since the sixties. Not to say that a blues musician
  3. I can really see Goin' Down to Acapulco being used in the eventual speed withdrawal scene.
  4. I'm hoping they hop by URI/BrownU/RISD so I can go...or someplace closeby Albany NY would be cool, since they've only played Poughkipsie aside from NYC.
  5. do you really find blues soloing for hours on end the most interesting thing on earth? I like Wilco because the soloing is innovative and strange and tasteful, where the Allman Brothers are just a bunch of old guys indulging in taking turns soloing in an obligatory manner...There's no interesting dynamic occuring out of the jams, just: "You take a solo...okay...my turn now..." while the rest of the band [including the hilarity of having two robotic drummers instead of one actually good drummer] sits on auto pilot, plodding along. For the first few songs this was interesting to watch, but aft
  6. eh, I could imagine that just being really boring live though...you ever see the Allman Brothers, or any other jam band? ugh.
  7. Neil Young's Walk On and Wilco's Hate it Here are extremely extremely similar.
  8. I bet Pat is visiting his identical brothers, the Gallaghers.
  9. coming from the guy with Danielson dressed as a big tree in his little icon.
  10. I'm assuming that it's you singing, you sound like a deeper version of Neil Young. edit: this isn't really my type of music, but it's very good. the sound quality is impressive and the songs are all sharp and thought out. I like the weird percussive/reggae breakdowns and vocal harmonies in there.
  11. now, this is probably douchey of me, but does anyone know if these exist anywhere online?
  12. am I the only person who feels Radiohead couldn't be more overrated? nonetheless, I do plan on buying/...getting for free this album to support the idea behind it. Maybe I'll like it.
  13. most underrated Wilco song ever: This Is New. I really would like to hear it live.
  14. I don't know what you mean by "affected voice", this album does make his vocals seem weird, but if you can give him credit for anything, he's probably one of the best damn singers in the indie group.
  15. ...and what's the deal with him being pretty much the largest contributor to The Wilco Book despite being the newest member at that point?
  16. boo hoo boo hoo. it's a videogame. who cares.
  17. it always bothered me that Theologians and Im A Wheel weren't on the list. Especially Theologians, because it's such a good cut live.
  18. another possibility is that a good amount of suave literate penmanship in this book is also Dylan copping lines from old poets and writers.
  19. They also soundchecked with Hell is Chrome at The Pines, too. What about Theologians, too? I don't see that very often on setlists, and along with Wishful Thinking and Company in my Back they are some of my favorite Wilco songs. I don't think they'll be permanent drops, I just think because this is the obligatory "Sky Blue Sky tour" they're making room for SBS songs. I think people keep forgetting that SBS was a bit more popular mainstream wise compared to the last albums, so they get upset and call Wilco sellouts when they don't hear the more obscure numbers being played in lieu of the "s
  20. I got one at the most recent show in Northampton and I love it. I actually went to buy more off Amazon but they don't even sell vinyl.
  21. John's only 40. I would have taken him for 35 or so, but I think the lack of grey in his hair is cosmetic.
  22. I just thought that if you weren't a Wilco fan, this performance wouldn't have been really head turning. I thought Hummingbird was the most solid showing of their late night shows...Walken, or You Are My Face, or Side With the Seeds, I think would have been better, but this was a sleepy song, just kind of monotonous. I like it, of course, I just thought it would have been a little boring otherwise.
