  1. And 3 day passes are the only way to go, IMO. How could anyone miss even one day of this weekend? I'm serious!
  2. Kind of interesting that they list Glenn Kotche on his own line. No mention of On Fillmore.
  3. Oh my God, this is unbelievable. A GIANT step up from last year, and that was the peak experience of my life! Where to begin? Other than Wilco, I'm most excited about Levon Helm, Thurston Moore (can't wait to see what he's doing with Nels!) and the Handsome Family, but also Liam Finn. And Wyatt Cenac and John Hodgman? And JC Brooks--you just know there'll be some interplay with Jeff there. Holy crap. I'm gonna have to bring a couple of clones to take it all in!!
  4. While we wait for the announcement at 10 am tomorrow, check out the new look and content of the SSF website http://solidsoundfestival.com/ Also, it looks like the early worm pricing is gone. Just regular $124.50 weekend pass tickets left. I'm pretty excited about what might be announced. Someone on Facebook is speculating that Beck might be there. Seems too good to be true, but I guess we'll know soon enough. . .
  5. I think I would ask Jeff about this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AJyS177FpNk Does anyone know where this is from? If it's not a put-on, it seems amazingly revealing about the inner workings of a self-aware front man. Edit: In case the link above doesn't work, click
  6. I saw Warren Zevon--twice. Both were great experiences--pretty small venues, enthusiastic crowds. I'm so glad I got to see him live when he was really on a roll. Without giving this too much thought, I'd say right now the band I'm sorry I didn't get to see is the White Stripes. I was just watching a DVD the other day and damn, they were great! They got a lot of sound out of a guitar and drums.
  7. Who Were You Thing Of? (Doug Sahm, I think, but covered by Jeff)
  8. LOL! OK, given that this is Wilco we're talking about and not Justin Bieber, maybe the wave would be more apropos.
  9. I think this is a brilliant idea. If we could pull off something like this, can you imagine how happy that would make the band? This board is a well established means of communication. We could decide on a song, get everyone to request it on Wilco's website, and then decide on some kind of choreography that could be taught to people in 10 or 15 minutes when the band launches into it. There are lots of obstacles but I really think someone could pull this off. Having royally screwed up a VC meetup last year, I do NOT volunteer to spearhead this, but I would be an enthusiastic lieutenant!
  10. Yes, I remember after the series finale looking all around for blogs or websites to try to discern the meaning, and I came across this one. I could not believe in-depth analysis and degree of attention! I found it hard to believe that David Chase would have ended the series as ambiguously as it first appeared, with a random copout ending. It reaffirmed my belief that this was a brilliant series from beginning to end.
  11. Cool, thanks for the report. I'm seeing him here in Norfolk on April 7 and am looking forward to it.
  12. WHEW! You can't say we don't articulate our intentions around here! This has been a very interesting thread to read, and it would be a good one to somehow pin as an object lesson in line-drawing. Or maybe that's overkill, but it does demonstrate how, despite the best of intentions all the way around, misunderstandings can so easily occur when you're dealing with just the written word, devoid of any--or much--personal knowledge of the speaker, and with only emoticons to convey subtleties. Donna, so, so sorry about your doggie, and everything else going on.
  13. If you don't see them, it might be your browser. When I was at work I couldn't see them, but on my Blackberry and at home they show up.
  14. The one I can't get over is Mikael. That beard is working for him.
  15. Second Tweedy solo show in Toronto just tweeted. March 23, you lucky Canadians.
  16. I love these songs too. Whenever Just a Kid comes up on my iPod it puts me right into bouncey, head-bobbing mode. They should play these more often.
  17. Here's parts 2 of the 1986 phone interview And the final part 3
  18. And then there's this very early 3-part interview (audio only) with a leisurely, quietly confident Jeff giving a very good interview over the phone about 14 years ago, when Spencer was 15 months old. It's completely charming. Stay tuned to next post for parts 2 and 3. . .
  19. Also, poking around for Wilco footage from Beavis and Buthead, i cams across these this early Wilco video with Jeff doing a convincing impersonation of a very buzzed frontman, complete with hair shaking and midriff -baring tummy shaking. I'll tell ya, Jay looks like the stern, sober one!. And the piece de resistance: a crowd-surfing Jeff! There's gold in them thar youtubes!
  20. I assume lots of you have seen these old videos, but they are just so awesome and joyful, my face is about to burst from grinning. There's somebody named Pants Elderly. AKA Sticky on this board, maybe also AKA Chris, who must've been friends with the band even before they became Uncle Tupelo.. He shot so much golden footage over the years. Here's a link to footage from a halloween concert in 10/85 wherein one Jeff Tweedy is looking mighty fine in a lace-trimmed dress. And that is apparently Pants Elderly himself flailing around the stage covered in fake blood.[Mods: Are we past the st
  21. I'm hoping for some mid-Atlantic dates--VA, MD, DC, etc. I will definitely travel a ways for my boys but just don't have the money to go on a southern jaunt this year. It looks like there's still space on the calendar to squeeze in some shows in this area before Solid Sound. I want to be all warmed up before the end of June!!
  22. Absolutely. That is a perfect album. And so, in my opinion, was "Excitable Boy." He did some great work later--including songs from his gallant and heartbreaking final album, and of course Mutineer--but nothing touched the perfection of these two.
  23. Yes, and also kudos to Brennan Murphy for his stunningly gorgeous recording of that Tweedy solo show. While I'm at it, thanks to all you tapers--what would we obsessive fans do without you?
  24. Somebody has posted a snippet of the sound check for IATTBYH on youtube. It's hilarious! I want more!!
