And when they release a new album they probably won't have such varied setlists because they'll have new songs to promote. We are just in an incredibly wonderful sweet spot right now, I think, with the 20th anniversary, coming back together after an extended break and no new material to drum into our collective consciousness. You can feel their joy at being together again. It's just a great time to be a fan!

Why would you want to do this? Think of how distracting it is for the people around you, as well as for the band. Smh

I totally agree that the audience should whoop it up to get encores. Yes, it's an expectation that there will be an encore, but that doesn't mean that we don't owe them that much, especially considering that they're up there playing their hearts out for us. It's a concert tradition, people. When the yelling and stomping and whoos start slowing down, take a cue from Pee Wee Herman and "yell real loud!" Get that energy back up! Jeff has every right to be perturbed if the audience isn't doing its part. After all, "half of it's you, half is me."

And be prepared--most of the closer hotels will be requiring a 3 or 4 night minimum stay and they WILL be jacking up their prices for the weekend. I honestly don't blame them--it's probably the biggest weekend of the year for them and they are in possessiion of a scarce commodity. I'm sure there will be lots of whining on here about how hard it is to get reservations and how expensive it is, but we just have to suck it up--it's a small town with limited hotel space. Some other options to explore are airbnb.com and vrbo.com.

If memory serves it has generally been December or January. In the past they've offered a limited window for early bird purchases, then at least one other band of pricing. But the differences were not huge and in any event pale in comparison to the other expenses, like accommodations and travel. The problem will not be getting tickets to the festival but getting reservations where you want to stay.

Speaking of Airbnb, I found a place in Andersonville that should work for me and the price is right. However, another place I had considered seems to have a very nice, friendly host, and he seems to be a musician/festival goer type himself. He has some dorm type (shared room) accommodations available and he said he'd be willing to offer even lower pricing to people coming to Winterlude. If you're looking to do this on the cheap (like me) you might want to look him up. His name is Joe and the listing on Airbnb says something like Freebies! Food, clean and fun. Whoo, Tweedy overload--in a great way. Got back to my hotel from the phenomenal show tonight and turned on the TV to unwind, and just caught the last half of TWEEDY on Austin City Limits. Mindblowing!
