  1. I think Birdman will win, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was Boyhood. Boyhood was my favorite by a mile. The movie that seems most overrated to me is Whiplash. Aside from the excellent acting, I thought it was an overcooked and unbelievable script. I found myself literally shaking my head in disbelief at some of the plot contrivances.
  2. New Pornographers at The National in Richmond.
  3. It's totally thrilling. It's also double the airfare compared to a round trip ticket in December. That makes it a tougher call for people who need to factor in airfare, hotels, etc. Everything costs more in the summer. (Maybe because something about Chicago in the winter can seem a bit daunting?)
  4. They say love conquers all You can't start it like a car You can't stop it with a gun
  5. I would love to see Foxygen return to SSF--they were definitely fun. And it was a great idea to put the scaffolding incident in the trailer. It looks so rock and roll!
  6. Agreed. One of my pet peeves at festivals. At Hardly Strictly Bluegrass people laid down blankets the night before and didn't even show up until right before showtime, expecting that their precious blanket assured them of tons of space at the very front. That is complete bullshit, in my opinion. In the case of a long lining up process at a regular show, the most I think it's acceptable to do is get there early, make sure you make friends with the people around you who are also waiting, and then it's OK to duck out for a quick meal or a drink, etc, especially at shows where the lining up star
  7. In my case, W1LCO. But I've seen others, like SHESAJAR, for example.
  8. New article about tomorrow night's premiere of the Solid Sound movie! Wonder if any band members will be there? http://missoulian.com/entertainment/arts-and-theatre/film-on-wilco-s-music-art-festival-to-premiere-in/article_d54cc3ab-10bf-5b1e-9211-9ea37f0e81a4.html
  9. I'm at a local music magazine music awards concert.
  10. Sorry if this seems a little morbid, but I was just reading an article about the Metro North train crash and one of the victims was apparently a big Grateful Dead fan. I was struck by what it said in the article--I don't think I've ever specifically noticed a major news event where it described somebody this way. I thought it was possible that someone here might know this person, Eric Vandercar, 53, of Bedford Hills. "Eric loved many different kinds of music and with each band he had subsets of friends," said longtime friend Boone Becker of Boulder, Colo. "My connection to him was through Th
  11. Jason Isbell with Damien Jurado opening. At the Paramount in Charlottesville.
  12. Last night Wilco posted a tease on Facebook with their road cases in front of what appears to be a Red Rocks background, saying Where will Wilco's road case go next?
  13. That was an excellent and very well-written review, clearly not cobbled together from press releases and other sources. The writer seems very knowledgeable. A pleasure to read.
  14. Haha. I have a Wilco-themed license plate and when I went to see Son Volt a couple of years ago I was lucky enough to find free on street parking right across from the venue. I almost didn't take the spot because it seemed like a slap in the face to Son Volt.
  15. Yeah, if Wilco cares about our sobriety they'd better make some anoun cements soon.
  16. I assume this is just all in good fun. We can call ourselves whatever we want. :-)
  17. Thanks so much for the report. Glad to hear they weathered the journey and arrived in good spirits.
  18. Wait... that's not denial, that's embracing the obvious!
  19. Good for Mavis. But I'm sorry to learn that Solid Sound is now out of the question for her.
  20. Maybe people just don't connect the dots? Like they have alerts set up for Wilco and Jeff Tweedy but this is under the radar? Too bad for those missing out if so. I have thoroughly enjoyed the Tweedy band shows I've seen and am really looking forward to seeing hometown shows in March.
  21. Yes, very surprising if they're not selling out Chicago. Is it maybe that it's a larger theater than other shows? I haven't done any research comparing theater sizes--just speculating. Or maybe because it's a 2-night stand? But honestly, that is weird given that they're weekend shows especially.
  22. In case people missed it, The War on Drugs has just announced a pretty extensive U.S. tour. They're coming to both Norfolk and Richmond, for example, which are less than 100 miles apart. I'm excited to see them.
  23. I love this! I'll probably never think of the song the same way again.
