These crazy musicians with their solo projects and shit.. When will they ever learn...
-
So I still need to see MMJ live... But it's kind of hard when they never tour! Where the hell are these guys? Jim still recovering from his little accident?
-
Interesting that it distorts even at the low volume.. What kind of amp are you using again? I've tried it on a Blues Deville and a Marshall, and never had a problem with the clean.. Although the clean channel is pretty dirty on the Blues Deville to begin with.

Seconded.. And "Tomorrow Never Knows" - the first ever trance/trip-hop song.

"President Obama doesn't care about jackasses."

Possibly, but I personally believe he's just a douchebag. He thinks he can get away with anything because he's a "genius".. Just watch that South Park episode.. That's how he is in real life. -

And don't forget the South Park episode: It was on last night.. I watched it. -
Wilco sounds more like The Grateful Dead than any band playing today

Thanks guys for the great info. I do have a beta 52a, but I wasn't very happy with the results on the last album I recorded. I had to EQ the heck out of it to make it sound decent. Without the EQ, it sounded like the kick drum was a shoebox. I also didn't really experiment with mic placement.. I think this time I'll place it inside the drum, closer to the beater. If I'm still not happy, I'll check out one of the mics you have recommended. Thanks again.

Not exactly guilty pleasures...

Def Leppard - Pour Some Sugar On Me.... There... I said it.. -
TV still needs a good Old West series. Someone should do one about Jesse James, or Billy The Kid.. Or even another series on The Civil War like "The North and South".. If done right, I think it would be a hit.

Just finished season one last night... HOLY CRAP.... I'm going to start the second season tonight. I seriously don't know how they could top the first one since the whole show was based off of the "Ice Truck Killer" and since he's dead, what will they do next?? Can't wait. I really liked the first season of that show, but then it just started getting kind of boring.. The first season with Wild Bill etc., excellent TV...
-
Yeah, it had it's ups and downs.. I think it was a solid season.. Not bad, but not great either. The women on that show are crazy. Janet is of course pure evil and Shelia is batty as hell. Shelia's little speeches to try and convince Tommy to stay with her in the last couple episodes were long winded and uncomfortable..

Needed something to watch since Rescue Me just ended. This show is AMAZING.. I've started on the first season a few days ago, and just about to finish it up.. My wife is also reading the book to go along with it. Great TV..

Anyone recommend a good bass drum mic? Everyone always raves about the Sure Beta 52A, but I'd like to see some opinions/personal experiences with other brands.

Sorry to gloat, but I just picked up a Digidesign 003 Rack. It comes with Pro Tools 8, plugins, and virtual instruments. No more borrowing my friends old Protools 6 rig to record my bands albums. Not a bad deal either. Got a $200 rebate so the total for the interface and Pro Tools 8 was $999. Never have to buy studio time again..

Saw them at a small place in Charleston a couple years ago. Excellent show, and the place was packed. They definitely weren't stripped down when I saw them, they even had an accordion player.

What's the consensus on Wilco (The Album)?
lamradio replied to Shining Sunbeam's topic in Just A Fan
Pretty much my thoughts exactly, except I think SBS is way better. Every Wilco record before WTA, I pretty much got obsessed with and they never left my CD player. This one, I only listen to ocassionally.. I think it's a decent album, but it's probably my least favorite.. -
Ok, so after doing some research at Tape Ops and John Sayers, I'm starting to think the storage shed idea isn't such a good idea.. I know that it can be done, but if I want to do it right I'll end up going WAY over budget. I'm thinking of installing a wall in my garage to create two rooms, sectioning off the garage door. The wall will be pretty thick with drywall or particle board, and a layer of insulation (hopefully rock wool if I can find it) in between. I'm hoping the wall alone may be enough isolation since I will have both mass with the thick wall, and the the space in between
-
Thanks Lost Highway. Our biggest concern is isolation, but we'll also be using the space as our studio, so we'd like pretty good acoustics as well. We recorded our first record in a regular old bedroom (no sound proofing) and it sounded great, so I think if we insulate it, put up some drywall or particle board, then we'll be good to go. I also have to make sure we run enough power out there (would hate to trip the breaker on every song).
-
Excellent advice. Especially about the particle board.. I was going to use paneling, but that stuff might even amplify the sound.. We also may go with one story, just to have more money to spend on sound proofing. The two story buildings are more than double the price of the one story. Thanks for the tips!

So my wife and I (and fellow bandmate) are going to construct a rehearsal building/guest room/office in our back yard. The building will be similar to this one, with the rehearsal space on the first level, and the office on the second. Here's my biggest concern. We we'll definitely have to insulate it for temperature control, but what about sound proofing?? I would hate to build the building, move the band to my house, and then we can't play there because of neighbor complaints.... Should we buy the soundproof material to go on the walls, or have something installed inside the w
