What's the consensus on Wilco (The Album)?
lamradio replied to Shining Sunbeam's topic in Just A Fan
I haven't listened to this album in several weeks. I tried to a few days ago and it was just ...meh... I think it's the weakest Wilco album to date. It's the only Wilco record that I haven't worn out.. (And yes that includes SBS and A.M.) Really there's only one GREAT song on that album, and it's One Wing. IMO of course.. -
I've made the switch to Pro Tools via PC, and I couldn't be happier. Yes everyone always says MAC is superior to PC when it comes to audio engineering, but I used Pro Tools on a MAC for years, and now that I have switched to PC, I'm really not seeing the superiority. No more convoluted MAC file structure is the biggie for me.. Plus I'm just more comfortable with PC since I've been using/supporting them 15+ years now. My Setup: Intel Core 2 Quad Q8200 / 2.

The SM57 is primarily an instrument mic, but they work great for vocals as well. The 57 and the 58 (vocal mic) are basically the same mic except the 58 has the round windscreen containing a pop filter.

I was just thinking about starting a new thread, but you beat me to it. Pisgah Brewing Co. Valdez Pisgah Brewing Co. is a small micro-brewery based out of Asheville NC. There's a great bar in town called Barley's (some VCers are familiar with this place) that carries all of their brews on tap. HOLY mother..This is definitely the best coffee stout I've ever had. The wife and I ordered a pitcher of this fine brew. As soon as the waitress sat the pitcher on the table, the strong coffee aroma slapped me in the face. And the taste: I couldn't get over how strong the coffee/latte flavo

Ok, I've been to a lot of great shows in my day but lasts night Dr. Dog show is in my top 2 favorite shows ever. These guys know how to put on a live show.. So much energy and they look like they are truly having a blast... They are also MUCH louder live then on their albums. The guitars are louder, more distorted, and holy crab Toby's bass tone.. A lot of it had to do with standing right next to the sub-woofers, but still.. Their drummer couldn't make the show, so they got a local guy to sit in. Toby said they've never played with him before until a six hour rehearsal before the sho

Prime example: The other guitarist in my band has a $2000 dollar Les Paul Custom. The thing NEVER stays in tune, so it sits in it's case collecting dust. He also had to replace the nut after he bought it (can't remember why). I have a $600 Epi Les Paul Custom that stays in tune better than my American Strat and I play it almost every show. When I compare his Gibson and my Epi side by side sound-wise, you can't tell the difference. The epi might even sound a little better with more sustain.

That's a travesty.. Makes me want to puke. Gibson has really gone down hill the last few years. Their quality has been slipping and now this..

I'd love to hear that. PM me if/when you find it. I've looked for live Dr. Dog before, but never have been successful.

Getting stoked about the show in Asheville Monday. From the looks of the setlist above, they play a wide variety of tunes from all of their albums including some I've never heard of. Fat Dog? Possibly new stuff? I hope so.

Now I remember why I was an independent all those years.
lamradio replied to ih8music's topic in Tongue-Tied Lightning
Not a new job, but different company at the same job. That's how the IT world works. Business are always trying to find the cheapest IT outsourcer, so they usually switch companies every few years. I've worked for four different companies in the last five years, but only two different job sites. -

My new company doesn't offer health insurance for the first two months of employment. Since I have a wife and three kids, I have to go with a ghetto ass private healthcare company in the interim. Yesterday I spent $300+ on medication to treat my son's ear infection, and my other son's skin rash. Even when the insurance activates, it's going to be about $800 a month to cover my family and I.. That's almost as much as my mortgage payment.. I'm no fan of Obama, but if he can do something about healthcare then he'll be a hero in my book.. That's my vent for the day. -

I know that Jeff read the board during the whole Charleston reschedule fiasco. At the concert he talked about how he didn't know why everyone was making such a big deal out of it.. But the guy on the front row wearing a SNL T-shirt was just brilliant. -
This brings me to a question; why do artists like Coldplay charge a fortune for their tickets? Are they really that greedy, or do they have high overhead costs? Maybe those arena's cost an arm and leg to host bands, so a good portion of that $100 ticket price goes to overhead... Or maybe the artists charge that much because they can...
-
Pretty much arena's, pavilions/amphitheaters.. Typically the venue's that use ticketmaster. For example; I'm a Coldplay fan, but I'll never go see them (unless I won tickets or something). They have the nerve to charge $100+ a pop, and they play the big arena's where the sound is horrible.
-
Thats why I love going to small venue concerts. Like The Orange Peel in Asheville.. Yeah, you'll probably never see the Pixies there, but you will see pretty well known acts like Dr. Dog, Band of Horses, (heck even the Beastie Boys played there a few months ago). They use small ticket agencies like Ticketweb where the fees are very small (usually around $2.50) I've actually missed seeing some of my favorite bands play simply because I despise large venue's.

New Flaming Lips Album Now Streaming
lamradio replied to ThisIsNowhere's topic in Someone Else's Song
If you use Firefox, get the Download Helper plug-in. This way you can download each individual track from the stream and save it to your hard drive. The MP3's are decent quality at 160 bps. If you don't have Firefox, get it.. It blows IE away... Need more help with using Download Helper, let me know. -
Monsters of Folk (James, Oberst & Ward)
lamradio replied to Wild Frank's topic in Someone Else's Song
This whole Monsters of Folk thing is taking away valuable MMJ time.. They still need to redeem themselves after Evil Urges, so it's time for MMJ to get a move on.
