Kevin, no "Holiday Road" here. That's on one of the National Lampoon Vacation movie soundtracks, I believe. Yeah, it leaked on Oink, but it'll be released tomorrow. He did most of the CD himself, so maybe that's how he could keep it under wraps so long? I don't know. OK, you can tell by my avatar, I'm a huge Lindsey Buckingham fan. So if you're a Fleetwood Mac hater, I don't mind, but just be kind. ( imsjry ) I was able to listen to the new CD all weekend on Rhapsody, and some of the songs have been streaming on his website for a few weeks. It has been 14 years since his last s

Hope your birthday rocked!

My thoughts are with you all. I hope there is some comfort in knowing that your fans give you a big hug of caring and condolence.

Thanks for the reminder about the fundraiser,Greg. The benefit show in SF is sold out, not surprising considering the great line-up - Ben Gibbard, John Vanderslice, Ryan Miller, etc etc. All these auctions are fantastic ... ... and for a good cause

Yep, I stayed up and watched it last night. I missed his Letterman performance, so his choice of "Chinese Translation" was fine by me ... in fact this was the first time I had ever seen him perform live since I missed the Columbus OH show a couple weeks ago due to bronchitis. So I am in still definitely hoping to see him in person sometime while he is promoting "Post-War" tunes. I really liked the 2 percussionists thing. His guitar work was brilliant. I don't think band performances on TV are that great most of the time (yet I still watch), but this was very very good.

so so sooooo precious and beautiful!

I saw him this past Saturday in Indianapolis, and I am still on musical cloud 9 as I relive the show through youtube. I loved the strings and the horns and the butterfly and bird wings. Especially as Sufjan's bird wings would flap back and forth as he rocked during the songs, clearly seen in Graham's youtube link for Transfiguration. But Majesty Snowbird was a mind-blower. I'm so glad I introduced my step-sister to Sufjan's music last year. She used to only listen to Christian music (the boring kind), so I gave her Seven Swans and she fell in love ... with everything he's written.

Actually, I hope not. I would like some of the new album to be a surprise. What I would prefer is that they resurrect some oldies and give them new arrangements and wow us that way.

No, Kris ... I wasn't dis'ing your Christmas music choice. I used that slanty-face smiley to indicate my sadness over the fact that I don't own that Christmas album, and that's all. I suppose in hindsight I should have used a few descriptive words so that it would not be confused with slanty-face smiley's multitudinous other meanings. Hey - I trust your judgement, dude. After all, you like King Crimson so you're OK in my book.

Calexico Sept 27th Pabst Theatre Milwaukee
Wendy replied to Smokestack Joe's topic in Someone Else's Song
God I love this band live. They were just in southern Indiana and Cleveland and I'm kicking myself for not making the trip, but there's just too many shows coming up this fall, and I can't go to everything. Plus, I did see them headline just this past July at the Magic Stick in Detroit, and stood literally right in front of Joey Burns and was soooo mesmerized and swept away by the brilliance of Calexico as a whole, but damn I love Joey Burns' voice. Somebody (Leo?) once called them a national treasure, and I agree 100% I think that was when we saw them on the Iron & Wine/Calexico -
but first check with the FAA

Lots o' love for Andrew Bird, are you kidding? I was all set to see him on Saturday night until Wilco announced their shows. Wilco trumps Andrew Bird in my world anyway. Plus I can wait on Andrew Bird until he tours behind another release. And lastly, Logan Square is not my favorite venue in Chicago. So there. PS - see you this Saturday!?!
-
My thoughts exactly. Friday MMJ, Saturday Wilco if by you mean getting on a plane and visiting Chicago over Thanksgiving, then YAY!
-
Oooh, Viatroy - those are gorgeous! I tried making glass beads once. Burnt myself, gave up. I actually cooked something last night for dinner. Chili - Cincinnati style. Now my house smells like Steak N Shake.
-
Hey, is any of that true? Kevin! See you in Chicago at the Wilco shows over Thanksgiving weekend???
-
That's a busy man!
-
Definitely go see him. I just saw him for the first time at The Ark at Ann Arbor in June. He had a cellist and violist full-time during the show, and that made for such a beautiful sound. He told several great anecdotes, both funny and moving, and really entertained. What a fabulous talent he is, and he looked great, had plenty of energy during the performance. That was one hell of a show. Now, I don't know if he still has the same musicians touring with him at this time, but even without them I'm sure it would still be great. So, yeah. Go.

Nice! Thanks for the head's up!

What an odd couple. Maybe it wasn't 30 US dollars, but 30 British pounds? What does Summerteeth vinyl usually go for these days, anyway?
