Can someone please explain the Tweedy "Living Room Shows"?
Wendy replied to Bart's topic in Just A Fan
This thread is terrible. I'll never link to it again. -
Just finishing "Naked" by David Sedaris. I have taken this book to appointments etc, and in the dentist office the other day I got teased because of the book title! l just love him so much, I don't care. I also love giftcards to bookstores! These two books should be on their way today.

Settle in for some reading: It's a long thread but should answer your questions. http://forums.viachicago.org/topic/40324-can-someone-please-explain-the-tweedy-living-room-shows/page__view__findpost__p__1338720

Looks like they totally ripped off the camel design from this guy's amazing poster for the upcoming Amsterdam show. Damn. http://www.mikesaputo.com/portfolio/

Sounds like this is all about your band and not really about Wilco, so ... moooooving!

When I heard he was touring nearby, the dates and cities didn't work at all for me to take a road trip, and so I sort of half-heartedly read about these special shows. The concept is very interesting. Leave it to Andrew Bird to bring something new to the table. Damn, wish I could swing it. My favorite Tweedy solo show ever was performed in a chapel (Grand Rapids MI) and the respect generated by the chapel to the artist and to the audience conjured up a powerful experience and therefore much more moving and memorable for me.

Read about The Flaming Lips in the November Spin magazine ... crazy photos including one of nude Wayne Coyne splattered with black paint with hints of pink. Spin has a little article teaser and video teaser of that photo here: http://www.spin.com/articles/flaming-lips-are-complete-control

Nice! On a side note: Are these photos really gigantic or is it just my work PC with its old IE browser not reducing them automatically on the new board software? They're huge.

No, just a little confusion in this thread. There are 2 separate things being discussed in this thread: 1 - The charity fundraiser show and LR show auction at Second City in Chicago (which should be wheelchair accessible, but don't take my word for it - Google their number and call them for verification). 2 - The actual private living room shows won are held in private living rooms, family rooms, basements ... whatever works for the host. So first one needs to join an existing living room group, or create one of your own and pool your money, attend the fundraiser noted above, and bid away

Bummer. I am hearing more reviews like yours, too. OK, so here's another trailer that piqued my interest: Adam Goldberg in "(untitled)" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q9myaiQs3GI&feature=player_embedded

Happy Birthday Robin! Missing you around here these days!

Google "woody guthrie foundation" and you can write to her there, I'm sure.

Maybe someone has converted this to mp3, but you can grab it in m4a format at Owl & Bear. http://owlandbear.com/wilco-archive Scroll down to find the "Jeff Tweedy" section, and it was performed live on Jan 4, 2000.

Thanks Matt! I appreciate you picking the cream of the crop for us. Very nice! Funny you say that you're done with Impossible Germany. I was too, and then all of a sudden this tour I started liking it again for no particular reason! It's just weird! But good since they play it every show.

I don't think any avatar at VC gets more inquiries than yours, Speed Racer. People love her face!

There's this billboard sign I pass on the way to the lake every weekend in the summers - Froggy 106.7 radio station - and think you each time! http://www.ilovefroggy.com/Artists/tabid/60/Default.aspx Hope your B-day was amazing!

Thanks everybody! All Wilco shows are fun and special and amazing no matter when, but it was really fun to have this big UIC one fall on my birthday. So of course, I had a GREAT day thanks to my friends ... and Wilco. One of those days where you have to keep wiping smudges off your glasses because you get so many hugs! I don't mind! I got pulled over for speeding on US30 on the way to Chicago, and even the cop said he wouldn't ticket me on my birthday I was treated to a delicious Italian dinner at The Rosebud with Maureen & Erik preshow, after which we hopped over to the v

Hey Ann Arbor! What a terrific show at Hill Auditorium! This list is copied from my photo of the setlist which the drum tech's mom kindly allowed me to photograph. But I think it's not 100% accurate, and needs some help to update. Liam started at 7:30, Glenn sat in on drums for one song as has been typical for the tour, and Liam went a little over 45 min, allowing for a surprise Wilco (sans Jeff) stage rush complete with confetti poppers and some song and dance party shennanigans to commemorate Liam's last show opening on Wilco's tour. Later Liam came out for Wilco's California Stars we

Oh, wow - I did not realize that about the presale currency thing! That really sucks. Sounds like you are with the program, so I guess, um, nevermind.

ps1211, I agree ... but I have one more question for Dan. OK. I think a venue should have some sort of preparedness for this kind of issue, it isn't going away. They should have some options to move a patron who is unhappy ... for whatever reason. You may need to be the person to open some dialogue with them and discuss it in person (and you should find that manager quoted in your link). Win them over by finding a solution rather than displaying defiance. Please excuse me if my following assumptions are wrong, but I'd be interested to know ... The show you attended on the 15th was

Wow, that is a bummer. I don't know if you've seen this on Massey Hall's website, but it sounds like you may have broken their "being considerate" rule. http://www.masseyhall.com/aboutRTH/patronServices.cfm?sectionName=aboutRTH

No shit! How could they forget to mention the gas mileage!
