I feel unashamed to admit I absolutely do not like his single Wilco contribution.

Just pick up the newest Golden Smog record: it's so heavy on the Gary Louris-led tunes that it's practically a companion to Smile or Rainy Day Music although I really wouldn't put any of the new GS stuff on par with even those two albums. They're on "hiatus" though although who knows? Maybe we'll get a Louris/Olsen record sometime in the next few years. That'd be sweet.

The only DBT album I've been able to force myself into buying based on people's praises here on VC is "The Dirty South." I like roughly half the album, but find the songs I do like to be forgettable. All of Patterson Hood's songs make me cringe and nearly all of Mike Cooley's are good. It's an album that I don't think was worth the 13 bucks I paid, but it doesn't make me feel like I wasted the money either. It's not misogynistic IMO. I just don't enjoy that quality a whole lot in a rock song for some reason. As I said before, Lucinda's voice is awesome and I love when she has that angry tone in her rocked-up tunes. And I love Norah's voice: it really compliments her piano playing.

I'm sorta jealous. All I got is Wilco (10/7), Wilco (10/8), and Jay Bennett (10/23).

There aren't many female vocalists I like a whole lot. The only one I really like is Lucinda Williams (although that live album kinda sucks). Other than that, I think Norah Jones is pretty good sometimes. I love Portland, Oregon on this album and that's really it. I have trouble making it through the rest of the thing, but the music is pretty solid most of the time.

Not to be a jerk or anything...Benson actually is only the engineer for "Little Red Shoes" according to the liner notes, but I never did notice the Raconteurs connection. Thanks for pointing it out.

This is my first YLT album (I bought it on a whim) and while they didn't beat my ass, this album definitely kicks some serious ass. What a great record from the Spiders-esque first track all the way through Beatle-esque pop tunes and punkish rockers. This is most likely gonna end up a top 5 album for me this year.

Well there is a song called What Light and, obviously, Walken is a direct reference to Jesus Christ our one true Lord and Savior. I should also mention that Jeff uses the word "you" a lot in "Is That The Thanks I Get?" and with a little capitalization in the liner notes, that "you" becomes "You." Think about it.

As far as I'm concerned, getting the 3-disc set "How The West Was Won" is enough. It's got nearly all the modern rock radio treasures and some killer 20+ minute versions of Dazed and Confused and Whole Lotta Love. This collection reminds me a lot of a Dead show: the first set is relatively short songs and the second set really turns the corner and takes you to an area of music not many bands can get to.

It really is almost like a new post-Olson Jayhawks record...and I believe it would be the worst one yet. The album really isn't that good and I was really let down by it. In a year of great music, this one is a major lowpoint. It also could have used more Jeff on it as the songs he is in are the highlights for me.

I like their first album a lot, but the that new single makes me wanna freakin' barf. Bringing back falsetto-led disco is something I could have done without. I'll still by the album but my expectations are low...real low. I do think they have mainstream appeal, but it's more based overseas than here.

As long as Donna isn't singing in it, yes, I too can say that. There are only about 3 versions I've heard thus far where her vocals DON'T make me cringe.
